Among the Judges

When it was Sasuke’s turn, Kakashi’s expression became carefree; he wasn’t that interested in this fight. No one knows Sasuke’s progress and current strength better than him. Therefore, Kakashi is quite certain that, other than Naruto and Neji, and perhaps Kurama Yakumo, no one in his year will be able to give him a challenge, let alone defeat him.

However, as Rock Lee stepped into the arena, suddenly a doubt appeared in Kakashi’s heart as he noted the aura around the little watermelon head. “This boy… he seems rather peculiar today. Is something up with him?”

It was his instinctive feeling: Rock Lee’s aura strongly reminded Kakashi of Might Guy. “Don’t tell me…”

Kuroto muttered lightly, “Oh, it seems the little guy isn’t wearing weights today… huh… wonder how much he has progressed.” Kuroto didn’t really have much idea about everyone’s progress in the past seven months; therefore, a lot of things came as a surprise for him. The same is the case with Rock Lee, and he is really looking forward to this battle.

Shisui said, “Well, considering that he has been training under Guy-san for quite a while now… perhaps, he also started to learn that forbidden Jutsu.”

Kakashi raised an eyebrow. “You can’t be serious; did Guy already put him through that?!”

Similar to Kuroto, Kakashi doesn’t have much idea about Rock Lee’s progress. He spends his days managing Hokage’s responsibilities, overseeing Sasuke’s training, and focusing on his personal training. Therefore, other than being aware that Guy has taken Rock Lee under his wing, he doesn’t know much about the specifics of Lee’s training.

Despite this, knowing that Lee has been training under Guy, Kakashi is confident it wouldn’t be a disappointment. As a result, he once again became interested and paid closer attention to the battle with the thought, ‘The result of this battle… it may not be what I had initially expected. I wonder how Sasuke will perform.’

Fugaku asked with a doubtful expression, “Who is the boy?”

Mikoto shook her head. “I am not familiar with this boy; never heard of him. Even Sasuke did not mention him all that much.”

It was Uchiha Hazuki who answered Fugaku and Mikoto’s doubt, “Isn’t he the boy who runs around Konoha’s perimeter with that person named Might Guy? Look, Mikoto-san, they are also wearing similar clothes. Yes, he is that same boy. I have seen them a few times pass by in the early morning. The strange thing is, several times they run while sleeping—very weird!”

“Huh?” Both Fugaku and Mikoto were taken aback.

“With Might Guy?” muttered Mikoto and confirmed, “Now that you mention it…” The clothes that Might Guy and Rock Lee were wearing were indeed quite similar. “That is indeed the case.”

Fugaku folded his hands over his chest and said, “He trains with Might Guy… just like Sasuke, Minato’s son, Hyuga Neji, as well as others. This boy should have been training under Might Guy for the past seven months… and considering Might Guy… hmm… I wonder if the boy has learned that forbidden Jutsu?”

The common folks may not know that well; however, people like Fugaku and Mikoto are aware of the enigma named Might Guy—the shinobi who became a Jonin by solely relying on his Taijutsu prowess. Since Might Guy was on the same team as the likes of Hatake Kakashi, Hyuga Kuroto, and Uchiha Shisui, he ought to be an incredible individual as well. After all, birds of a feather flock together!

Mikoto muttered, “If he has started learning that forbidden Jutsu, then it would be a difficult battle for Sasuke.”

Fugaku nodded, “Indeed, let’s hope that Sasuke can triumph over this one successfully before the battle with Minato’s son!”

If it were before, Fugaku wouldn’t have thought that Rock Lee would pose much of a challenge to his youngest son. However, after losing his eyes, his perspective on things has changed. Now, he believes differently. If individuals like Kuroto can be a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, then there’s no telling how deeply muddy the waters are.

On the Arena

Sasuke, with his hands in the pockets of his trousers, looked at Rock Lee with a carefree expression and said, “What are you waiting for? Just come already; time is of the essence today!” He hadn’t even activated his Sharingan.

Seeing that Sasuke wasn’t serious at all, Lee said earnestly, “Sasuke-san, please be more serious because I will go all out in this battle!”

Sasuke sighed and said, “As I said, stop wasting time with pointless nonsense… just start already.”

Lee nodded lightly, “Hmm,” and without wasting his breath, he assumed his stance as his entire aura changed drastically.

Sasuke didn’t care all that much. He bent down a little, lowered his center of gravity, and then put one of his hands inside his Shinobi bag.

Lee was never on his list of ‘must-defeat’ people, so Sasuke didn’t want to spend too much time on this battle and lower his blood count unnecessarily. He aimed to end this battle in a single breath and save as much Chakra as possible for potential future battles against the likes of Shikamaru, Neji, and Naruto!

Whoosh!

Just as Sasuke was pondering how to quickly resolve the battle, Rock Lee’s body disappeared from his field of vision with an air-piercing sound, “??”

“Wha–?” Sasuke was startled and subconsciously activated his Sharingan.

With the help of his three-tomoe Sharingan, Sasuke was able to catch Rock Lee’s figure that dragged behind a long afterimage as he rushed toward him and performed a high kick, ‘Leaf Rising Wind!’

‘Damn, that’s fast!’ thought Sasuke with an incredulous expression and immediately defended against Lee’s attack with both his arms.

Bang!

Unsurprisingly, Sasuke was kicked hard and sent flying through the air.

In midair, Sasuke readjusted the center of his gravity, firmly landed on the ground, and once again looked at Lee, carefully capturing his movement with his Sharingan. His face was no longer as relaxed as it was before; there was surprise and solemnity on his face as he stared at Rock Lee. ‘This guy… how the hell did he become this fast? And what the hell is up with that power in his kick? Was he always this strong physically?’

The power in Rock Lee’s kick was more than enough to break the bones of ordinary shinobi. If Sasuke hadn’t defended in due time, he would have sustained a terrible injury!

Back on the judge’s side, Kakashi couldn’t help but wonder, “Rock Lee, this boy… just how much weight does he use for strength and speed training?”

In terms of speed and strength alone, Rock Lee had exceeded the level of most Chunin and stepped into the territory of a Jonin. Even Sasuke, Kakashi wasn’t certain whether the genius of the Uchiha Clan would be able to match Lee in terms of speed and physical strength.

Kuroto was also surprised; however, his reason for the surprise was different. He wasn’t surprised by the strength and speed displayed by Lee in the first attack; he knew for a fact that Lee could do better than that. Due to Kuroto’s influence, Guy had taken Lee under his wing far earlier compared to canon. Therefore, Lee has been training under Guy for several years now, which means the level of his current strength is far different from his canon counterpart. It’s just that Lee wears weights most of the time, so not many have noticed his true strength.

What surprised Kuroto was Sasuke’s response. When Sasuke stepped into the arena, he hadn’t activated his Sharingan. Kuroto thought that Sasuke would have to bear a lot of pain before he realized that he could not underestimate Lee, activate his Sharingan, and take Lee seriously. However, things went differently. As soon as Sasuke realized that something was wrong, he immediately activated his Sharingan. Not only that, but he also defended in time and didn’t dare risk taking an attack directly.

‘It seems Sasuke has indeed suffered a lot under Kakashi,’ thought Kuroto with an amused smile. Only suffering can bring forth such changes.

Not far away from the judges, Guy looked at the arena with a frown in surprise, “Such an attack didn’t work at all?” and nodded to himself, “Well, that is to be expected… you are the genius of the Uchiha Clan after all. Perhaps Lee might really need to use the Eight Inner Gates…” then looked in the direction of Itachi.

Might Guy isn’t sure why Itachi insisted on Rock Lee using all his strength in this battle. After all, this was just an academy graduation exam, but since it was an instruction from the principal of the Konoha Ninja Academy, he had no other choice but to follow through.
