Chapter 940: Sasuke’s Potential & The Stolen Kinjutsu
“The fact that you swore the loyalty of the Uchiha Clan to me is well and good; however, I have a few other conditions as well, so please hear them out before making any decision!” warned Kuroto.
Fugaku raised his head inexplicably and asked, “Conditions?”
Kuroto nodded, “Yes!” and then stopped speaking, giving Fugaku some time to ponder over it.
Fugaku thought about it as his expression became serious, and he asked, “What are the conditions?”
Kuroto lifted his hand and opened his index finger as he said, “If anyone were to ask you in the future about the whereabouts of your Mangekyou Sharingan… regardless of how cruel their method is, your reply must always be the same… ‘My Mangekyou Sharingan was stolen by the Homusubi of Amatsukami after he defeated me in a battle of Genjutsu on the night Satori attacked the village.’”
Fugaku nodded immediately, “I have no problem with this!”
Even if Kuroto hadn’t asked him, Fugaku wouldn’t have revealed the truth about that night to anyone. After all, Fugaku knows that the one who took his Mangekyou Sharingan is his eldest son Itachi… Fugaku would prefer death over betraying his son.
Although he agreed without much consideration, he still couldn’t help but question, “Has Itachi secretly become part of Amatsukami?” His suspicions were not without any basis; after all, the Susano’o of the male Homusubi of Amatsukami seems to be quite similar to his Susano’o, therefore, it’s not impossible.
Fugaku’s emotions were a little complex at the thought of Itachi becoming part of Amatsukami.
Instead of answering Fugaku’s question, Kuroto said, “Regardless of whether he has become part of it or not, it doesn’t concern you, Fugaku-san. If false rumors were to spread about Itachi being part of Amatsukami, it would earn him the ire of the entire Uchiha Clan and also cause the entire Uchiha Clan unnecessary trouble, therefore, it’s best not to talk about it.”Hearing Kuroto’s words, Fugaku nodded, “I understand.” Fugaku agreed with Kuroto. He fully understands that he is no longer what he used to be until a few days ago. The current him, without his Sharingan/Mangekyou Sharingan, is way too weak to be able to hold any secrets. Fugaku knew that he had already caused a lot of suffering for both of his sons with his past actions; he did not want to become a source of any more trouble for them.
Therefore, not knowing things that he is not supposed to know is the best for him, as well as for Itachi and the rest of the Uchiha Clan.
Kuroto was satisfied with Fugaku’s understanding, and he smiled lightly, then opened another finger—the middle finger—as he said, “The second condition concerns your younger son, Uchiha Sasuke!”
As Kuroto mentioned Sasuke’s name, Fugaku suddenly became nervous and asked, “Sasuke?! I don’t think he has done anything to warrant your attention, nor does he know the truth about that night. Itachi did not seem to want to tell Sasuke just yet.”
Kuroto shook his head, “It’s not about that,” and after a short pause, he continued, “This concerns Uchiha Sasuke’s potential. If we talk about the talented Uchiha Clansmen, which includes Shisui, Shinichi, Itachi, Izumi, Sasuke, Kiyomi, and of course, you as well… Considering these people, if we talk about talent, then, of course, Sasuke is not the best. He may have awakened his Sharingan at a very young age, earlier than even Itachi and Shisui. However, you can’t deny the fact that Sasuke is not the best when it comes to talent; that position rightfully belongs to Itachi.”
“Certainly,” nodded Fugaku. If it’s about talent, then Itachi is undoubtedly the most talented Uchiha Fugaku has ever seen. This was his thought even when he wasn’t aware that Itachi hadn’t awakened his Mangekyou Sharingan. Even now, his thoughts haven’t changed. Even Shisui, who is considered the strongest combat power of the Five Great Nations, is not as talented as Itachi in Fugaku’s eyes. Although Fugaku agrees with Kuroto’s words, he doesn’t seem to understand where Kuroto is trying to go with this. “But I don’t understand what Itachi’s talent has to do with Sasuke.”
Kuroto put down the teacup in his hands on the table, then he spoke, “Of course, talent is important to determine how far a shinobi will go. However, it’s not everything. The most important thing is the potential, which equates to the highest level of strength one can reach in their lifetime. When talking about the potential of all the Uchiha Clansmen currently alive, then I believe Sasuke beats all the Uchiha, even Itachi, and Shisui for that matter!”
“Sasuke has the most potential?” muttered Fugaku in surprise. In recent years, Fugaku has also noticed Sasuke’s progress. Although it takes him relatively more time to learn things compared to Itachi, Sasuke does seem to have a hard-working nature, putting in all the effort needed to become strong. Be that as it may, Fugaku never really thought much about Sasuke’s potential and how far he will reach.
Now that Kuroto has mentioned something about Sasuke having the most potential out of all the Uchiha alive, Fugaku couldn’t help but think about Sasuke’s potential and questioned, “Is that really true?”
Kuroto nodded, “I don’t have any proof to prove this, but I do believe that this is indeed the case.”
“I see,” muttered Fugaku and said, “As a father, I certainly feel joyous, proud, and relieved upon hearing this. However, I still don’t understand what you are trying to say…”
“Of course, you don’t, Fugaku-san… I haven’t really talked about it yet,” said Kuroto with a chuckle, then continued, “Now that we have established a hypothetical possibility that ‘Sasuke has the most potential among all the Uchiha,’ I want you to cooperate with me in order to bring out his full potential.”
“Cooperate?” mumbled Fugaku, finally understanding Kuroto’s intention. After a moment of contemplation, he asked Kuroto, “May I know what Hokage-sama has in mind about bringing out Sasuke’s potential?”
Kuroto nodded and explained, “So… it’s like this…” Kuroto then delved into some aspects of his plan for Sasuke. At the same time, he shared information about the existence of the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, which he envisions Sasuke obtaining in the future. He also discussed the challenges associated with the Mangekyou Sharingan and how the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan offers the best solution to those problems.
Upon hearing the details of Kuroto’s plan and learning about the existence of the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, Fugaku was surprised, muttering with a dazed expression, “Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, huh?” He hadn’t expected to hear such a crucial piece of information about the Uchiha’s Sharingan from a member of the Hyuga Clan.
Many secrets and important information about the Uchiha Clan had been lost or disappeared when Uchiha Madara left, so even though Fugaku had heard the term ‘Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan’ from his father during his childhood, he didn’t know the exact details or how to obtain it. He couldn’t be blamed, as before Fugaku himself awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, the very existence of it was considered nothing more than a myth among the Uchiha Clansmen, let alone something as extraordinary as the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan!
After Kuroto mentioned the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan and explained its details, Fugaku, while accepting the information, couldn’t help but express his doubt, “I wonder why Hokage-sama knows about the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan? I doubt anyone has ever heard of that thing in the village.”
Kuroto remained silent, offering a light smile.
Understanding the unspoken message, Fugaku quickly apologized, “It was just out of curiosity. If you do not wish to answer, then there is no problem, and I won’t question further.”
Kuroto nodded, “Good. Fugaku-san, you are no longer the Patriarch of the Uchiha Clan. You are just Uchiha Fugaku from now on. Politics and other matters no longer concern you. Therefore, you must get used to living as an ordinary member of the Uchiha Clan.”
Fugaku nodded, “I will keep that in mind,” showing a soft smile as he grasped the purpose behind Itachi’s actions, “So, it turns out that Itachi took my eyes to give birth to the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan for Sasuke. This relieves me. If my eyes can be used to strengthen my son, then I am content with it.” After a brief pause, he inquired, “But I must ask, why did Itachi not use those eyes for himself? He already has the Mangekyou Sharingan. If he were to use those eyes, he would gain the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan and wouldn’t lose his Visual Prowess. Instead of choosing to use them, he intends to safely keep them for Sasuke, which is understandable. But then what about him?”
Kuroto explained, “This is Itachi’s personal choice. He wishes for Sasuke to have the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. And you don’t need to worry about Itachi losing his Visual Prowess and going blind. Other than the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan, there is one more method of ensuring that a Mangekyou Sharingan user doesn’t go blind. However, that method is very painful and risky, so Itachi doesn’t want Sasuke to use that method.”
“I see,” nodded Fugaku, “This does seem like a very Itachi thing to do for Sasuke.”
Although Kuroto did not mention it, there is one more reason why Sasuke should use Fugaku’s Mangekyou Sharingan and not Itachi’s, and that is the fact that Sasuke is the reincarnation of Ōtsutsuki Indra. That’s why the chances of him awakening the Rinnegan are far higher compared to Itachi.
Of course, Kuroto is not saying that Itachi cannot awaken the Rinnegan, but even if he could, the chances are low, and it would definitely take many decades. Taking Uchiha Madara as an example, even he took multiple decades to awaken the Rinnegan. Considering that Madara was by far the strongest reincarnation of Indra, it would take Itachi multiple lifetimes to awaken the Rinnegan—not the kind of time they have at the moment.
Therefore, even if Sasuke hasn’t awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, because he is the reincarnation of Indra, Kuroto is going to bet on him. After all, the Six Paths of Sage would prefer the reincarnation of his son over Itachi—who is only a descendant of Indra.
After giving a brief explanation of everything, Kuroto said, “These are my two conditions… so what is your decision, Fugaku-san?”
Fugaku smiled joyfully as he nodded, “Since Hokage-sama is sincere when it comes to the future of both of my sons, I have nothing more to ask in return… I will fully cooperate with you so that both my sons can shine as they do in your and my eyes.”
Since he too had awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, Fugaku fully understands at what cost those eyes are attained. He believes that if he can exchange his life for the future of his son, then that’s not such a big price to pay. ‘Perhaps this is the reason for my continued existence.’
Although Fugaku wanted to ask for his daughter (adopted) Kiyomi’s future as well, upon thinking it over, he decided not to because that would be too greedy. Besides, based on his conversation with Kuroto so far, Fugaku has come to believe that Kuroto won’t do injustice to Kiyomi either and will provide her with a suitable nurturing environment that will help her become a splendid Kunoichi.
“That’s great to hear,” said Kuroto with a satisfied nod. Then he said, “Now that that’s out of the way, let’s move to another important business… I also need the Scroll of Izanagi.”
On the way here, Itachi mentioned to Kuroto that he couldn’t find the Scroll of Izanagi that Kuroto wanted. Kuroto was surprised to hear that news and thought that perhaps Fugaku had still kept that scroll and had not passed it down to Itachi. So, he asked Fugaku directly.
Fugaku was surprised upon hearing the term ‘Izanagi’ from Kuroto. However, considering that Kuroto is even aware of something like ‘Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan,’ Fugaku did not care anymore and responded with a helpless refusal, “Please forgive me; however, I cannot do that! Even if I want to, I cannot give that scroll to you.”
Kuroto was confused, “Why?”
Fugaku sighed, “It’s not that I don’t want to give it to you, it’s just that I cannot because that scroll has been stolen!”
Kuroto was taken aback, “Huh?”
Fugaku nodded, “After Uchiha Madara was supposedly ‘killed’ by Shodaime-sama, the Scroll of Izanagi disappeared. So, not even my father had the chance to take a look at it.”
Kuroto still couldn’t accept that the Scroll of Izanagi had disappeared and questioned, “How could it just disappear? Did Madara take it with him when he left?” That shouldn’t be the case; after all, Shimura Danzo spammed that Jutsu like it was nothing!
Fugaku answered, “Although he does seem to know and use Izanagi, it’s unlikely that Madara took that scroll with him…” Then added, “This is only speculation, but my father believed that the person who stole the Scroll of Izanagi was the Nidaime Hokage Senju Tobirama…”
Kuroto muttered with a frown, “Nidaime Hokage-sama? Now that he mentions it.”
Fugaku nodded, “Yes,” and continued, “We don’t know the reasons why he would steal that scroll. Perhaps he did not want us Uchiha to have the power of ‘Izanagi’ on our side because he might have predicted something like a coup may happen in the future or might have different intentions like saving the life of his ‘nii-san.’ Ultimately, we can’t be sure, but we do believe, at least, that my father believed that he used his Flying Raijin Jutsu to steal that Forbidden Jutsu!”
Whether it was in Canon or in this world, Shimura Danzo did spam that forbidden Jutsu to change reality multiple times. There are a lot of speculations as to how he got his hands on that Jutsu despite not being the Uchiha Patriarch. Some believe that the one who gave him information about it might have been Shisui or Itachi, but Kuroto doesn’t think so… that’s just impossible! Even if it might have been possible in Canon, it is not possible in this world.
Another speculation is that he might have obtained that Jutsu following the annihilation of the Uchiha Clan, but then how would you explain how he used Izanagi to surprise Shisui in the Canon? And how did he use that Jutsu in this world over and over again when the Uchiha Clan is not annihilated in this world? So, that’s not the case either.
Now, Fugaku’s answer has presented another possibility: the source is Senju Tobirama. Considering that Senju Tobirama even dared to work on extremely frowned-upon Forbidden Jutsus like ‘Edo Tensei’ and how he did not even hesitate to study the corpse of ‘Uchiha Madara,’ as well as the Uchiha’s Sharingan, it’s not impossible for him to have stolen that Forbidden Jutsu as well.
