Chapter 941: Izanami and Uchiha Naori
‘If the Scroll of Izanagi was taken away by Nidaime-sama, this also explains why the Uchiha Clansmen never used Izanagi even in the worst-case scenario,’ thought Kuroto.
Something had always bugged Kuroto about the entire Uchiha Coup d’état. Whether in Canon or in this world, the Uchiha Clansmen never bothered to use Izanagi no matter how far they were pushed. Initially, Kuroto assumed that Fugaku just didn’t share that Jutsu with the others, as Uchiha Ryota had told him. However, given how desperate Fugaku had become until a few days ago, it would make sense for him to tell all the Uchiha Clansmen about Izanagi. After all, he was willing to do anything, even a do-or-die, yet he didn’t share Izanagi. This just doesn’t make any sense!
You must not forget that the Izanagi used by the Uchiha Clansmen is far more effective compared to the Izanagi used by people who borrowed the power of the Uchiha. So, by no means will it be as weak as the one Shimura Danzō used in canon and in this world.
In fact, using Izanagi, it might even be possible to rewrite the fate of dozens of people at once if the Visual Prowess of the user is high enough, as shown in the flashback when Edo-Itachi was explaining Izanagi and Izanami to Sasuke following their battle with Kabuto. This alone means that Izanagi can be used to not only rewrite the fate of one’s own death but it can also be used to rewrite one’s own fate in such a manner that the outcome the user chooses can even avoid the deaths of dozens or hundreds of people! Heck, they can even use the Transcription Seal to set conditions for the Izanagi to activate on its own!
Although spreading the Izanagi to all the people may not have been a good thing for the Uchiha Clan in the long run as it would distort their minds, given that it was a do-or-die situation for them, spreading the Izanagi would have definitely benefited them, and increased the chances of successfully taking over the village.
Of course, Kuroto understands that the requirements for using Izanagi are not simple since it is a Jutsu based on the ‘Creation of All Things Technique.’ So, unless the user has sufficient Visual Prowess (Mangekyou Sharingan), they would need to use external means (Hashirama Cells), just like Shimura Danzō. Because of this, even if Fugaku did not want to give Izanagi to all the Uchiha Clansmen, he should have at least given it to Shinichi and Shisui.
The profits clearly outweighed the losses, and any sane leader would share that Jutsu with his clansmen in a do-or-die situation in order to increase their chances and combat effectiveness. However, he did not, much to the confusion of Kuroto!
Now it seems that the reason why Fugaku didn’t do this was not that he didn’t want to, but because he couldn’t. He didn’t have the Scroll of Izanagi with him, as it was taken away by Nidaime. After pondering for a while, Kuroto mumbled to himself, ‘It seems that there are only two places left in the Shinobi World where I can get any information about Izanagi.’
The first is through Obito… After all, given how much Obito likes to Spam that forbidden Jutsu, he should have a very detailed Scroll of this forbidden technique left to him by Uchiha Madara before he passed away.
The other place where Kuroto might find information about Izanagi is Danzō’s ROOT base. Naturally, Kuroto’s first choice would be the ROOT base, but he isn’t sure if the Scroll would still be there… because after he defected, the ROOT base was ransacked, and ANBU collected all the information from the ROOT base. ‘Which means the information about Izanagi is either at the ANBU base, or it is in the Forbidden Archives, or it is in the hands of Sandaime-sama if it hasn’t been destroyed already!’While Kuroto was busy thinking about these things, Fugaku suddenly got up and walked out of the room. After a minute, he returned to the room carrying a scroll in his hands and passed it to Kuroto, “Although the Scroll of Izanagi was lost, we still have a Scroll of a technique that is even superior to Izanagi… perhaps this technique might help you get the answers you want.”
“Is it Izanami?” asked Kuroto as he took the scroll from Fugaku.
Fugaku was once again stunned, “I did not expect that Hokage-sama would be aware of this technique too…” He then nodded with a bitter smile, “Yes, as you have guessed, this is the scroll of Izanami… Much like Izanagi, this is also a forbidden Genjutsu. However, different from Izanagi, which can change reality and provide an easy escape path from one’s current reality, the purpose of Izanami is to guide us into accepting the reality before and not choosing an easy way out using a Jutsu. This Jutsu was created to ensure that we Uchiha remain humble and honorable, and don’t grow complacent just because we have means of changing reality.”
Kuroto nodded, “Very good… this was exactly what I needed!” and unfolded the Scroll.
After Izanami is cast, even if the subject uses Izanagi to bend the outcome, instead of changing it, they will be trapped in an endless cycle until they accept the reality. As Fugaku explained, Izanami is a Forbidden Genjutsu that forces/guides the person on whom it is cast to accept the reality and the outcome instead of relying on a Jutsu to change it.
“Uchiha Naori, huh?” muttered Kuroto as he noted the name of the person who developed Izanami.
Fugaku nodded, “Indeed… Although there is not much information about her, it is known that she was alive quite long ago—perhaps over a century. This Forbidden Genjutsu was created by her to stop the Uchiha from misusing the power of Izanagi.”
Kuroto nodded lightly, “I see.”
Uchiha Naori may not have left behind much information about her, however, from the genealogy of the Uchiha Clan that Kuroto had read, he had noticed that Uchiha Naori, in fact, is Shisui’s ancestor.
To be honest, when Kuroto first learned that Shisui is a descendant of Uchiha Naori, he couldn’t help but sigh. In the canon, Shisui died at a young age, and so did his parents and grandparents. Heck, it’s not just his grandparents; even his distant ancestors also died at a young age. ‘Although this family is really full of talent, they also have a talent for dying at a young age.’
But in this world, Kuroto is really glad that Shisui is alive and did not die at such a young age.
The fact that these two are Ancestors and descendants also explains why she was willing to sacrifice her Mangekyou Sharingan to bring the Uchiha Clan to the right path. Both Shisui and Naori seem to have similar kindness and determination, being willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the Clan.
Anyway, after having read the Scroll of Izanami, Kuroto muttered with a satisfied smile, “This should work,” and put the Scroll inside one of his pockets. “I will return this to Itachi at a later date.”
“Alright,” nodded Fugaku.
Now that Kuroto has the Scroll of Izanami, there is a trump card against Obito.
According to Kuroto’s prediction, after the battle at the mountain range in the hinterlands of the Land of Grass, quite a few low-level members of the Akatsuki Organization should have died, however, bigwigs like Nagato and Obito…? They are definitely alive!
Kuroto doubts that the explosion he created by overloading the puppet of Aoki before leaving that place was enough to kill the likes of Nagato. He might have sustained some injuries; however, dead? Unlikely! He should be alive. After all, a freaking meteor collision couldn’t kill him; how can a mere nuclear explosion kill him?
As for Obito, don’t even talk about that guy; there is no way he would have died, and even if he did die, he would have resurrected himself using Izanagi. Kuroto had already killed Obito quite a few times; however, each time Obito would alter his fate using Izanagi. In such a situation, perhaps Izanami is the only way to go.
Izanami will not only prevent him from bending reality; it will also force him to accept the reality of the Shinobi World that he has been trying to deny for more than a decade now.
After discussing a few more things with Fugaku, Kuroto decided to leave, “Alright then, Fugaku-san, since everything has been settled, it’s time I take my leave.”
Just as he had got up, Fugaku suddenly thought of something and said, “Hokage-sama… one week later, we are going to organize a ceremony to formally assign my eldest son, Itachi, as the new Patriarch of the Uchiha Clan at the Naka Shrine… I hope to invite you to attend the ceremony as well.”
Kuroto looked at Fugaku in surprise.
Up until Fugaku’s generation, the other clans, and the Hokage faction had nothing to do with such a ceremony of the Uchiha Clan. The Uchiha Clansmen would perform it amongst themselves and later spread the news that a new Patriarch had come to power. But now that Fugaku has invited Kuroto, the Godaime Hokage of Konoha, this conveys a special meaning.
Of course, everyone can interpret the intentions of the Uchiha Clan differently. Some might think that, in order to be certain that the Uchiha Clan does nothing out of hand like replanning the rebellion against the village, Kuroto would be there along with his ANBU to observe them. Some might think that the Hokage was just invited as a formality; however, Kuroto is very clear about Fugaku’s intention. The meaning is that the Uchiha Clan stands on the side of the Hokage.
By his actions, Fugaku wants to convey that the Uchiha Clan has sworn loyalty to the Godaime Hokage and hopes that Kuroto can also fulfill his promise.
Understanding Fugaku’s intention, Kuroto smiled and nodded, “I will be there.”
