Chapter 1093: Uzumaki Naruto vs Shira II
“Rasengan Barrage!” Naruto shouted as multiple clones, each holding a Rasengan, charged at Shira.
Seeing the army of Narutos rushing toward him, each wielding a Rasengan, Shira knew he could no longer afford to be careless. He realized it was time to use his trump card. Without hesitation, he took several deep breaths and activated the Seven Heavenly Breathing Technique, simultaneously triggering the first three breaths. ‘Seven Heavenly Breaths: First Breath! Second Breath! Third Breath!’
Instantly, the air around Shira shifted. His lungs expanded, his heart rate quickened, and his blood flowed more vigorously. His skin darkened slightly, his muscles swelled, and overall, his entire aura transformed.
‘Up to the Third Breath… If I go further, it will start to take a toll on me, and I won’t be in the right state for future matchups. I’d better finish this battle quickly,’ Shira thought.
The Third Breath was the most he could handle under normal circumstances. Activating the Fourth Breath, or anything beyond it—like the Fifth or Sixth Breaths—would place a heavy burden on his body, especially on his respiratory and cardiovascular systems. This would drain all his energy. Therefore, Shira avoided going beyond the Third Breath unless absolutely necessary and only pushed beyond the Fifth Breath under extreme conditions.
“Now then…” Shira muttered. In his enhanced state, he vanished from his position. The next moment, he reappeared on the opposite side of the arena.
Before anyone could comprehend how Shira had suddenly moved, half of Naruto’s shadow clones, each holding a Rasengan, exploded into white smoke. A series of detonations followed as the Rasengans, no longer contained by the vanished clones, unleashed their chakra, causing one explosion after another—boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The sight of dozens of Rasengans detonating at once was a spectacle unlike anything anyone had ever seen. The entire arena shook, rumbling from the force.
When the smoke cleared, the once-flat ground of the arena was riddled with spiral craters. Despite the serious damage to the arena, Naruto and half of his clones remained standing, intact.
“I see, this much wasn’t enough…” Shira thought as he charged toward Naruto and his group of Shadow Clones.“Come on then…” Naruto and his clones grinned simultaneously. One of the figures quickly weaved hand signs and shouted, ‘Dispel!’
Shira was taken aback, stopped momentarily, and looked around vigilantly, waiting for something to happen—but nothing did.
“Hahaha…” one of the Naruto figures suddenly laughed loudly. “I feel so light! Is this what Bushy Brow feels like when there’s no weight?” He then turned to Shira, saying, “I’m getting serious now.” With that, he and the Shadow Clones vanished from their position.
“What?” Shira’s eyes narrowed as he quickly brought his hands up to block a punch aimed at his face and gut. Smash! Smash!
Even though Shira managed to block the punch, the force was enough to knock him off balance and send him flying backward. But he wasn’t unprepared; using the momentum, Shira rolled on the ground, directing the impact into the earth. He immediately got back on his feet and took his stance again, though this time with more difficulty. “Damn, my arms feel sore.”
“I’m coming again!” all the Narutos shouted in unison, rushing toward Shira at astonishing speed. Bang! Bang!
This time, Shira was ready. He managed to better handle Naruto and his Shadow Clones, but he was slowly getting overwhelmed. There were too many of them, and their speed was making it increasingly difficult to keep up, bang!
Suddenly, a punch landed in Shira’s gut, sending him flying once more. He rolled on the ground several times, coughing up blood. Despite the pain, he forced himself to stand again, only to see Naruto and his clones rushing toward him once more.
“I can’t go on like this,” Shira realized. It was too difficult to continue as things were, and he knew he had no choice but to activate the Fourth Breath. ‘Seven Heavenly Breaths: Fourth Breath!’
Sha! Instantly, all of Shira’s physical stats improved. Now, not only could he react to Naruto and his clones, but he could also fight back, destroying them one after another as if they were mere afterimages.
With the Fourth Breath activated, the difference in numbers was no longer a problem for him.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Poof! Poof! Poof!
Wherever Shira moved, Naruto’s Shadow Clones disappeared, exploding into puffs of white smoke. Before long, only a dozen clones were left in the arena.

Waiting Room
Ino asked anxiously, “Damn it, how is that guy so fast? Even Naruto can’t defeat him?”
With her inexperienced eyes, Ino couldn’t see the subtle changes that had occurred in Shira. To her, it seemed like Shira from Sunagakure had suddenly done something that made him incredibly fast, like Rock Lee. But unlike Lee’s case, it was impossible to tell what Shira had done, and the result was Naruto beginning to lose the fight.
Standing beside Ino, Neji’s expression grew serious. “Isn’t he just using some kind of breathing technique? Can such a technique really bring about such incredible changes?” Unlike Ino, Neji could see what was happening to Shira with his Byakugan, but he could hardly believe his eyes. He never expected that a breathing technique could make someone so strong.
Lee then spoke up, “This is the speed Shira-kun used against me in the second phase… I was almost defeated back then.”
“Hmm… his technique is indeed very impressive,” Guy nodded. Last week, he had already witnessed Shira’s technique when Shira fought against Tengu of Amegakure. Although the technique was different from the Eight Inner Gates, Guy knew it was still a very powerful Taijutsu technique.
Lee clenched his fist. “He’s definitely stronger now. I must work even harder from here on.”
…
In the stands.
The audience erupted with exclamations as they watched the fierce battle unfold on the field, completely shattering their understanding of what Genins were capable of. The piercing screams that echoed from time to time, along with the crackling and burning sounds caused by flying debris hitting the ‘Four Purple Flame Formation’ barrier, filled the spectators with a mix of panic and excitement.
While the ordinary stands buzzed with surprise, the VIP area was noticeably quieter. The five daimyos held folding fans and chatted leisurely with one another, discussing topics beyond just the final phase of the Joint Chūnin Promotion exam in front of them. Meanwhile, the five Kages on the other side watched the match intently, exchanging brief comments when something noteworthy occurred.
As Shira wiped out most of Naruto’s hundreds of shadow clones in just a few breaths, the Yondaime Raikage praised, “This speed and technique… reminds me of Might Guy. Who would’ve thought a boy from Sunagakure could master such a Taijutsu technique!”
Godaime Kazekage Pakura puffed out her chest with pride, smiling. “That’s to be expected. If Might Guy is considered the most talented Taijutsu user in Konohagakure, then Shira-chan is Sunagakure’s most talented Taijutsu user.”
The Sandaime Tsuchikage also smiled, then turned and deliberately asked ‘Hyuga Kuroto,’ who was seated beside him, “Hokage-dono, who do you think will win?”
Several Kages turned their attention to ‘Kuroto’ at the same time.
In response to Tsuchikage’s question, ‘Kuroto’ pondered for a moment before saying, “Uzumaki Naruto’s chances of winning are higher.”
“Is that so?” Tsuchikage mumbled, then turned to Pakura, asking, “And who do you think will win, Kazekage-dono?”
Pakura naturally wanted to say Shira would win but considering that Uzumaki Naruto was Hyuga Kuroto’s disciple and the Jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails, it was hard to say for sure. After a moment of thought, she replied, “It’s difficult to tell at this stage… neither of them has gone all out yet.”
“Oh?” Ōnoki was surprised by Pakura’s response and grew curious.
The Kages stopped chatting and focused their attention back on the field. At their level, there was no point in debating; it was better to wait patiently for the results to unfold.
…
In the field.
After realizing that his current taijutsu and just the use of shadow clones could no longer restrain Shira, Naruto decided not to waste any more chakra on the ‘Multiple Shadow Clone Technique.’ While Shira was busy destroying his clones, Naruto quickly adjusted his mindset and entered pseudo-Jinchūriki Mode.
Whoosh! Roar!
As the orange-red chakra of the Nine-Tails began bubbling out of Naruto’s body, forming an incomplete-tailed beast transformation, everyone’s expressions—whether in the VIP area, the audience, or among the ninja—changed dramatically. Before anyone could react, chakra tails began sprouting from Naruto’s body, one after another, until the count reached five.
The moment Naruto entered pseudo-Jinchūriki Mode, all of his shadow clones instantly disappeared.
Looking around the now pit-filled and smoky battlefield, only two figures remained: Shira, maintaining the ‘Seven Heaven Breaths Technique,’ and Naruto, now in pseudo-Jinchūriki Mode, standing on all fours with five tails swaying behind him.
“A tailed beast transformation!?” The exclamations echoed throughout the VIP area, the general stands, and the candidates’ rest area.
In the VIP area, the daimyos displayed a variety of expressions, while the audience gasped in horror. Some candidates who hadn’t witnessed Naruto’s tailed beast transformation during the second phase of the exam grew tense.
Naruto’s decision to enter pseudo-Jinchūriki Mode so easily and without immediate violence or lack of control after transforming meant one of two things: Uzumaki Naruto had either reconciled with the Nine-Tails inside him, forming a bond that qualified him to become a perfect Jinchūriki, or he had somehow learned to harness the Nine-Tails’ power without achieving that perfect bond, similar to how Karatachi Yagura once did.
At this moment, Naruto appeared like a beast, crouching on the ground with his forelimbs, exhaling hot air, and with five tails swaying casually behind him. His entire being radiated an extremely intense and overwhelming aura.
Feeling the surging Nine-Tails chakra emanating from Naruto, Shira’s expression turned horrified. ‘Is this the power of the Nine-Tails?’ he thought. The sheer wind pressure alone was enough to send him flying if not for the fact that he was using the Seven Heavenly Breaths technique.
A sudden realization struck Shira.
He knew that his Fourth Breath wouldn’t be enough to face the pseudo-tailed beast Naruto in front of him. Taking another deep breath, Shira accelerated his breathing rate and decided to take the risk, pushing further: ‘Seven Heavenly Breaths: Fifth Breath!’
Boom!
A massive shockwave radiated from Shira, blowing away the remaining smoke and dust that hadn’t already been cleared by Naruto’s transformation.
At the center of the shockwave, Shira’s muscles seemed to have expanded to their absolute limit, and his skin darkened from red to a deep purple.
Raijin, watching from the rest area, stared at Shira. “Just with his respiratory and cardiopulmonary systems, this guy can push his body to this extent. It’s truly remarkable.” He couldn’t quite find the words to evaluate this new technique that Sunagakure’s Raijin had developed, the ‘Seven Heaven Breaths Technique.’ However, based on his own experience, he knew that Shira must have reached his limit. The boy’s body was clearly struggling and couldn’t maintain this state for much longer.
…
Ordinary stands.
Kimimaro, sitting in a wheelchair with a calm expression as he watched Naruto and Shira, seemed out of place amidst the nervous and excited audience around him. After receiving treatment from Tsunade-hime, he had regained consciousness. Orochimaru, curious to see if Tsunade-hime could cure Kimimaro’s Kekkei Genkai disease, instructed them to stay in Konoha for a while instead of rushing back to Otogakure.
As a result, the three Otogakure ninjas, now free, decided to attend the venue and watch the third exam.
At this moment, Guren, who was pushing the wheelchair, remarked, “I didn’t expect someone like that to be in Sunagakure. Do you think he can defeat Konoha’s Jinchūriki?”
Both Kimimaro and Haku shook their heads simultaneously.
…
In the field.
Bang!
Shira, having finished charging his power, didn’t waste any time. He kicked off the ground, leaving behind a spiderweb of cracks, and shot toward Naruto like a cannonball.
Naruto, now in his tailed beast form and crouching low to the ground, flicked his tails. The five chakra tails quickly extended, growing larger and longer as they rushed forward to meet the incoming Shira.
