Chapter 1029: Forest of Death I
The sky above the tree line is still sunny and warm, but the lush and dense canopies of trees as high as a hundred meters blocked most of the sunlight, allowing only thin rays to pass through the gaps between the leaves, making the Forest of Death somewhat dark, eerie, and gloomy.
While hiding in the shade of a tree, Shikamaru Nara, Yamanaka Ino, and Akimichi Chōji formed a small circle as they looked at the map.
“Etto… let’s see… our current position…” he raised his head to look in the sky for a brief moment, then pointed at a particular spot on the map spread before them and spoke, “It should be somewhere here… it’s a rough judgment, but…”
Standing beside him Shikamaru, Ino shivered a little, “Is it just me, or was the Forest of Death always this gloomy?”
Shikamaru nodded, “It does seem a little…” he thought of something and while hurriedly folding the map, he spoke to the other two members of his squad, “It’s best not to stay too long at any place, let’s hurry up and meet up with the others…”
Ino and Chōji nodded, “Hmm.” Then while vigilantly looking around the three of them rushed toward the meeting point, they had discussed with the other twelve members in the plan.
As soon as they were given details of the second part of the Chūnin Exam, with the help of Ino’s Mind Transmission Jutsu, Shikamaru had already discussed the meeting point and other important stuff with the others in the plan. Their top priority is not to look for prey everywhere but to meet up at a point in the least amount of time possible, Shikamaru believed that only after everyone gathers together will they be able to safely pass the second part.
Shikamaru’s reason for such a belief is that when working together, they will have versatility like none other, so it doesn’t what kind of enemy squad they target, they will be able to gather as many scrolls as possible and successfully pass the second part of the exam.
Heck, even if they end up encountering the likes of Deidara and Raijin, they wouldn’t be completely helpless.
Naturally, things would have been much simpler and easier if Sasuke, Naruto, and Mika had also agreed to cooperate, after all, their individual strength is among the strongest in their generation, not to mention the Summons. Shikamaru had the confidence of one-sidedly dominating the second part of the exam had the three of them also agreed.Shikamaru couldn’t help but shake his head with a sigh, ‘Sigh… Sometimes, things just don’t work out the way you want them to…’
At this time, Ino said in a somewhat worried tone, “Shikamaru… something has been bugging me for a few days… Did you notice the gazes of Otogakure shinobi toward Sasuke-kun? It’s like, they want to kill him!”
Being his fan, Ino tries to stick close to him. During one such instance, she discovered the murderous eyes of Otogakure shinobi. There were traces of hostility hidden in those cold eyes, and she felt it!
Ino thought of something and added hesitantly, “Is it possible Sasuke-kun refused to work together because he felt that too, and did not want others to get involved in that matter?”
Chōji got worried, “If that’s the case, if all the Otogakure Genins are indeed after him, it might be very dangerous for just Sasuke, Naruto, and Mika to be acting alone… Not to mention there’s Raijin too… that guy doesn’t seem to have very good intentions toward Sasuke, Naruto, and Mika either…”
Shikamaru couldn’t deny the possibility, so after a moment of contemplation, he spoke, “Regardless of whatever we want to do, firstly, we have to assemble, and then we can decide on what to do… working along would be too dangerous. If they are really out for Sasuke’s blood, then they might not even hesitate to kill us if we come in their way, therefore, we need more people…”
“Alright…” Both Chōji and Ino agreed and were about to further speed up when suddenly an explosive sound came from the distance followed by a roar as the ground and tree trunks shook.
“Wha–?” Shikamaru, Ino, and Chōji hurriedly supported each other and balanced on the shaking tree, then looked in the direction of the explosion.
…
On the battlefield, amidst thunderous roars, two figures clashed in fierce combat. Their movements were swift, like lightning, leaving the wind’s own howls trailing in their wake.
Amidst their fierce battle, even giant trees with strong roots were like dead twigs and dried leaves, easily getting crushed and burnt. The Lightning Chakra Ninjutsu they used crackled and surged, tearing through the forest with the force of sharpened claws and whips. Each strike echoed with the sound of breaking branches and explosive bursts, marking the intensity of their conflict.
The fire and smoke, fueled by the electric shock, spread relentlessly, enveloping the entire battlefield in a haze of acrid burnt odor.
The two people fighting are undoubtedly Raijin and Darui of Kumogakure.
When Raijin’s team came across Kumogakure’s ‘Genin’ squad led by Darui, the leader of the two sides instantly collided. Raijin had the intention of fighting Darui from the very start, and Darui was also looking for the opportunity to kill off the Amegakure genin to preserve the exclusivity of Kumogakure’s Jutsu. Hence the fight.
“This guy… he can even keep up with Darui-san to this extent!” Atsui’s voice trembled as he gazed upon the chaotic scene nearby.
Having watched the conflict between Konoha Genins and Raijin, Atsui felt that he had a certain idea of Raijin’s strength. He understood that Raijin was definitely not Genin level and would probably rank in the Jōnin tier in terms of strength, but to be able to fight against Darui? Atsui never expected Raijin to be this strong!
On the other hand, Shee had a different expression on his face as he observed Raijin and Darui fight, he pondered then spoke to Atsui, “Although that guy is somewhat stronger than expected, Darui will be fine…” then turned toward the remaining two masked Amegakure Genins standing atop a tree not far away, and continued, “Let’s just make sure there is no interference from others, then we will help out Darui…”
Shee had confidence in Darui and did not think he would lose.
After all, Darui not only has amazing Kenjutsu mastery, but he also has Black Lightning Chakra Mode and Storm Release Kekkei Genkai. Other than the Yondaime Raikage, no shinobi in Kumogakure is capable of defeating Darui, and Shee definitely doesn’t believe that Raijin is as strong as Yondaime Raikage. So, in his eyes, there’s no way, he would be able to defeat Darui.
Hearing Shee’s words, Atsui recovered confidence and nodded, “I believe Darui-san,” then while drawing out his Tantō he turned his gaze toward Samsara and Tengu with coldness in them. Atsui doesn’t like Amegakure very much. In that village, his elder sister entered a vegetative state and hasn’t recovered so far, so he wasn’t going to spare the people of Amegakure either.
…
On the other side, Samsara and Tengu were silently watching the fight between Raijin and Darui from a distance. The moment Shee and Atsui turned their gazes upon them, both felt hostility from the other side and understood.
Samsara murmured, “Umm… they are about to target us…”
Tengu spoke after analyzing things, “They probably do not want us to provide support… and end this thing before it takes too long…” then took a step forward.
Watching Tengu, Samsara asked with a frown, “What are you doing?”
Tengu shrugged, “I will deal with them…”
Samsara pouted, “I thought we would both deal with them…”
Tengu shook his head, “There’s no need for you to deal with such simple things… moreover, one of us needs to stay behind and make sure others do not interfere with Raijin-sama’s training…”
“Alright…” Accepting the reasons, Samsara stayed put in her position, meanwhile, Tengu leaped down from the tree.
