Chapter 1005: Suna’s Team Maki & Nature of Shinobi

Somewhere in Sunagakure, the Land of Wind

Having received a clandestine message from Kuroto, Pakura hastened to the designated meeting spot and greeted him, “Kuroto-sama… you should have informed me of your arrival in Sunagakure earlier. I would have made the necessary preparations.”

Kuroto shook his head, “This isn’t an official visit from the Konohagakure’s Hokage to Sunagakure. I’m here for other reasons, pertaining to personal matters related to the organization.”

“I understand,” nodded Pakura, her expression growing serious. She inquired, “So, what does the organization require from me?”

Without mincing words, Kuroto replied, “I need the Tea Kettle.”

“The Tea Kettle?” Pakura was momentarily puzzled, but upon reflection, realization dawned on her. “Ah, you mean that Tea Kettle, the one often utilized for…?”

Kuroto affirmed, “Indeed, the Tea Kettle Sunagakure employs to contain Shukaku.” Given the Tea Kettle’s ability to isolate Chakra, sealing Shukaku inside it after extracting it from Gaara seemed like the optimal choice as it would be nearly impossible to perceive it.

Pakura, wearing a concerned expression, inquired, “Has something happened to Gaara?” She is one of the select few who know that Gaara is still alive and that Shukaku isn’t dead as the entire world thinks. Kuroto’s sudden appearance in Sunagakure to retrieve the Tea Kettle suggests that something might have occurred involving Gaara, and he needs to deal with Shukaku. Any other explanation didn’t seem plausible.

Kuroto shook his head, “Both Gaara and Shukaku are perfectly fine. There’s no cause for alarm…” He opted not to elaborate on his plans concerning Gaara and Shukaku but assured her that there was no reason for concern.

“Very well…” Pakura nodded, a sense of relief washing over her. She added, “I will fetch the Tea Kettle… Please wait here for a moment…”

“Please…” requested Kuroto as Pakura departed to retrieve the Tea Kettle he desired. In truth, he contemplated whether to also request the scroll of ‘One’s Own Life Reincarnation’ created by Chiyo. However, upon reflection, he decided against it. The ‘Dragon Life Reincarnation’ achievable through Ryūzetsu’s Kekkei Genkai from Kusagakure seemed like the superior choice.

As Pakura left, Kuroto shifted his focus toward three Genin training in the distance with Maki. He mused to himself, ‘So, Pakura formed a different Genin squad compared to Rasa… Temari, Itsuki, and Shira, huh?’ Though personally unacquainted with the trio, he had heard of them from Pakura. Temari, of course, was the eldest child of the late Yondaime Kazekage, Rasa. Itsuki, on the other hand, was Pakura’s adopted child (Chapter 456). As for Shira, he lacked any notable political background.

When it comes to strength, skills, and talent, none of the three can be underestimated. Shira is Sunagakure’s equivalent of Rock Lee. Lacking talent in Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, he has dedicated himself solely to mastering Taijutsu. During Rasa’s tenure as Kazekage, individuals like Shira lacked the opportunity to attend the ninja academy or become shinobi. It wasn’t until Pakura assumed the role of Kazekage that Shira was given the chance, and he proved himself worthy of it.

“Seven Heavenly Breaths, huh? It’s intriguing,” remarked Kuroto with a thoughtful expression. Unlike Konoha’s ‘Eight Inner Gates Jutsu,’ Shira devised his own variation of Secret Taijutsu called ‘Seven Heavenly Breaths.’ This technique enhances his strength akin to the Eight Inner Gates. Although, ‘Seven Heavenly Breaths’ doesn’t have an equivalent of the ‘Gate of Death,’ the secret Taijutsu itself is very good. For a child to be able to come up with such a Taijutsu, speaks volumes for his incredible talent.

Following Shira, Itsuki possesses the Magnet Release Kekkei Genkai. The details of Magnet Release require little emphasis—it stands as one of the most renowned Kekkei Genkai. Kuroto, while controlling the Fujin Clone, is also a user of Magnet Release, and Gaara has inherited Magnet Release alongside his Sand Controlling Skills.

And lastly, it’s the blonde Kunoichi. In fact, the individual who surprised Kuroto the most was Temari. Observing the orange orbs floating around the teenage girl as she faced Maki, he couldn’t help but mutter, “I never expected you would pass on the Scorch Release to Rasa’s daughter… You do know that Rasa intended to eliminate you on multiple instances, right?”

“Yet, I am here alive and Kazekage, and he is dead and a puppet. Fate can be fickle sometimes…” chuckled Pakura as she approached Kuroto. She glanced at the young girl training in the distance with a soft smile and continued, “Temari expressed her desire to become the Kazekage one day… However, she couldn’t achieve that goal with just Wind Style. So, I decided to teach her Scorch Release, and surprisingly, she mastered it. That girl turned out to be very talented and intelligent, much more so than her idiot old man.”

“I see…” murmured Kuroto, and inquired, “So, are you grooming her to become the next Kazekage?”

Pakura did not deny, “Indeed. Itsuki has also expressed his intention to support Temari as the next Kazekage. As a mother and as the Kazekage, I must assist the children of my village in pursuing their dreams, isn’t that correct, Hokage-dono?” She then handed the Tea Kettle she had brought with her to Kuroto, “Here you go, Kuroto-sama… the Tea Kettle you requested.”

“Well, you’re right, Kazekage-dono…” nodded Kuroto with a chuckle as he accepted the Tea Kettle from Pakura and stored it inside a Sealing Scroll. Once done, he smiled gratefully, “And, thank you for this.”

Pakura shook her head, “I deeply regret what happened to Gaara. Despite my reluctance to admit it, his ‘death’ protected the village from Akatsuki’s attacks. Furthermore, because of the organization, I became the Kazekage and gained full control of the village… Today’s Sunagakure is much stronger than before, all thanks to the Organization. Compared to what you & the organization have done for me… this is nothing.”

Kuroto smiled and didn’t dwell on the matter further. Instead, he turned to leave, “Alright then, Kazekage-dono, I suppose I’ll see you during the joint Chūnin Exams.”

A fierce smile crossed Pakura’s face as she declared, “Certainly, I’ll make sure to send two of my best Genin squads… so I hope that the joint Chūnin Exam lives up to expectations.”

“Of course. Although there are still around three months left, Konoha has already initiated preparations. It will be a Chūnin exam unlike any before,” Kuroto responded before vanishing from Sunagakure.

“In that case, I look forward to it,” Pakura nodded to no one in particular, turning her attention back to Temari, Itsuki, and Shira.

‘Well, I don’t have anything to do for the time being. I suppose I’ll get some movement in my body…’ With that thought, Pakura decided to assist with Team Maki’s training. After all, they would represent Sunagakure in the joint Chūnin Exam, and she needed to ensure that the three children were fully prepared for the unprecedented event.

On the other hand, after departing from Sunagakure with the Tea Kettle, Kuroto hastened without pause to Kusagakure in the Land of Grass, his target was Ryūzetsu, as he needed her to use ‘Dragon Life Reincarnation’ on Gaara, after the extraction of Shukaku.

In fact, very few people possess knowledge about the Kekkei Genkai of Ryūzetsu’s clan. Considering the treatment Karin and her mother endured in this; if the people of this village were aware of this information, every member of that clan would likely be utilized to restore the life force of dying individuals.

This scenario holds not only for the people of Kusagakure but also for the people of other shinobi villages. If Kumogakure were to discover this remarkable Jutsu, they might take actions akin to what occurred with Uzumaki Kushina and Hyuga Hinata. The same would apply to most other shinobi villages, including Konoha.

Furthermore, Kuroto’s pursuit of Ryūzetsu is also driven by his intention to exploit her for the same purpose, and he harbors no reservations about it. This is the nature of a shinobi, especially a Shinobi raised and groomed by Orochimaru; Kuroto is certainly no exception. He has ended countless lives, conducted numerous experiments on living people, and is directly and indirectly accountable for the suffering and demise of many individuals. In light of this, would he still concern himself with the life and death of a Kunoichi who is essentially a stranger to him?

Putting that aside, upon arriving at Kusagakure, Kuroto decided to sneap upon the leader of Kusagakure. He recalled that Ryūzetsu served as an Anbu of Kusagakure and devised a plan to temporarily manipulate the village leader using the Puppet Cursing Sphere to extract the necessary information about Ryūzetsu’s whereabouts from their memories.

He had visited this village twice before: once when he tasked them with finding the whereabouts of the Rōran tribe, and another time when he came to take Karin away. Consequently, he was familiar with the layout of the village, so sneaking upon the head of the village wasn’t difficult. Once he had that person under his control, he searched through his memories to figure out Ryūzetsu’s movement.

As luck would have it, Ryūzetsu was indeed in the village. Upon obtaining this crucial piece of information, Kuroto wiped the leader’s memories clean and promptly departed from the village after kidnapping the girl while ensuring no one was alerted to his presence.

As he soared through the clouds, Kuroto glanced at the unconscious teenager in his grasp and muttered to himself, “Now that I have both the Tea Kettle and Ryūzetsu, Shukaku can be safely extracted from Gaara… After that, I can proceed with my plans for Satori and the Box of Ultimate Bliss.”
