The next morning, Shen Nian didn’t wake up early as planned.

When she came downstairs, Shen Nian found the entire Chu Family already gathered in the living room. Even Chu Lingxiu was watching her descent with a teasing look on her face.

Shen Nian’s face flushed, and she discreetly pinched Lu Cheng, who was standing beside her. ’If it weren’t for him last night,’ she thought, ’there’s no way I would have woken up this late!’

"Xiao Nian, Lu Cheng, you’re up! Come, have some breakfast."

"Thank you, Aunt Lan."

Shen Nian gave Gao Ruolan a grateful smile and went to help her and Sister Zhang with the breakfast preparations, trying to ease her embarrassment.

"Xiao Nian, Lu Cheng, what are your plans for today?"

"Ah Cheng’s leave isn’t long. We plan to buy a few things in a bit and then head back."

There were still two days left in the weekend, so Shen Nian could have waited until Sunday night to go back to school.

"Alright, be careful on your way then."

"Mm, we will."

"Xiao Nian, let’s go back to school together the day after tomorrow! My brother and I will come pick you up from the family compound."

"That’s too much trouble. Brother Yunze is busy too."

"It’s no problem. No matter how busy he is, he can always find time to give his sisters a ride."

In his eyes, both Chu Lingxiu and Shen Nian were now cherished younger sisters to Chu Yunze.

"Alright, then."

Shen Nian glanced over at Lu Cheng. Only after he nodded in approval did she agree.

After breakfast, Shen Nian and Lu Cheng bought a few things and, along with the items the Chu Family had prepared for them, returned to the compound.

After being away for a few days, Shen Nian felt a comforting sense of familiarity as she returned to the compound.

Lu Cheng went to report in from his leave and wouldn’t be back until that evening.

After hearing the news of Shen Nian’s return, Lin Jingyun and Zhang Ying quickly came over to her place.

"Xiao Nian, you’re finally back! We missed you to death!"

"Sister Jingyun, Sister Yingzi, I was only gone for a few days!"

"You heartless girl! It’s obvious we were the only ones doing the missing. Look at you, you didn’t miss us at all!"

"You’re framing me! Of course I missed you guys! You’re my big sisters!"

"Hmph, that’s more like it!"

Only after forcing Shen Nian to admit that she missed them too were Lin Jingyun and Zhang Ying finally satisfied.

"Sigh, I never realized it before, but you were only gone for a few days, and we were already starting to get bored."

"Yeah! We never felt this way before you came here!"

Lin Jingyun and Zhang Ying complained to Shen Nian, their faces full of mock resentment.

"Alright, alright, I promise I’ll come back often."

’Still, promises aside,’ Shen Nian thought, looking at Lin Jingyun and Zhang Ying, ’maybe it would be a good thing for them if they had something to keep them busy.’

’I’ll just have to think carefully about what kind of work would suit them.’

’Meng Sijia?’ It had only been a few days, but Shen Nian suddenly felt as if that person was already a distant memory.
