Chapter 528: Jealousy Makes People Ugly (4)

Fortunately, Chu Lingxiu quickly caught herself. With a small smile, she suppressed the fluttering in her heart.

"I’m fine. I’m going to go pack my things."

After speaking, Chu Lingxiu turned and returned to her spot, trying hard to calm her emotions.

Qi Yunzhi and Wang Chunhua glanced at Chu Lingxiu, then turned to look at Shen Nian.

Shen Nian shook her head at them. ’Maybe Chu Lingxiu is just having a little trouble adjusting.’

So, with a tacit understanding, the four roommates began to pack their things in silence, giving Chu Lingxiu plenty of time to compose herself.

Before long, it was afternoon. All the freshmen left their dorms to report to their respective schools and classes.

B University’s Chinese Medicine program was already small, and Shen Nian’s incoming class was even smaller.

The entire university had only a single class for the Chinese Medicine program, and its student count was less than half that of other classes.

Even with all twenty students present, the classroom still felt rather empty.

"Hello, everyone. I’m Xu Zhe, and I’ll be your class advisor for the next four years. Now, I’m going to take roll call to get to know you all. Li Yang..."

"Here..."

Each time Xu Zhe called a name, a student would stand and answer. Xu Zhe would then look up at the student and give a nod.

When he finally called Shen Nian’s name, and after she responded, Xu Zhe looked up. His gaze lingered on her for a noticeably long time before he gave her a smile.

Upon hearing her name, the other students in the room began to whisper amongst themselves, stealing a few extra glances at Shen Nian.

"I heard Professor Liang made an exception and took on a student this year. So that’s her! She just looks a little pretty, that’s all. I don’t see what’s so special."

"You’re just jealous! She was the top scorer in the province on the college entrance exam!"

"So what if she was the top scorer? This university has more than one of those!"

Shen Nian heard all the sour-grapes comments but paid them no mind. ’The only person I need to compete with is myself, not them.’

"It seems everyone already knows that Professor Liang has taken on a disciple. Shen Nian, please stay behind for a moment after we’re done."

"Okay."

Shen Nian nodded and sat down. She was also very curious. ’Why would the renowned Professor Liang suddenly accept me as his disciple?’

After Xu Zhe spoke, the chatter in the classroom grew even louder, causing him to frown.

"It seems many of you are jealous of Shen Nian. If you had the ability to save a life right now, I’m sure Professor Liang would be willing to accept you as disciples, too. Remember this: jealousy makes a person ugly. Instead of being jealous, improve your professional skills. That’s what you should be doing!"

After he finished speaking, Xu Zhe shot a deliberate look at the students who had been mocking Shen Nian the loudest. He held their gaze until they flushed with embarrassment, only then looking away.

Xu Zhe’s words served as a wake-up call, instantly sobering up many of the students in the classroom.

However, once they were jolted to their senses, they quickly processed what Xu Zhe had just said. ’So, the reason Professor Liang accepted Shen Nian as a disciple is because she has the ability to save a person’s life?’

They all drew a sharp breath. They were just freshmen, full of hope for the future. To think that there was already someone so capable among them!

Meanwhile, Shen Nian looked at Xu Zhe in surprise. ’It’s true I’ve saved someone before,’ she thought, ’but how could Professor Liang and this class advisor possibly know about it?’

’And from the way things look, have they known for a long time?’
