Qin Wenying arrived home.

Coincidentally, the Qin family had just finished dinner.

"Dad, I need to talk to you about something."

Mr. Qin asked, "What is it?"

Qin Wenying then recounted what she had heard from Qin Wenshu.

"I think it’s best if you handle this. Mingxue is busy every day; how could she possibly waste time on all this crap?"

Mr. Qin: ...?

’So, my time can just be wasted willy-nilly?’

"Alright. I understand."

Then, he noticed his daughter’s expression was a little off. "Is there something else?"

Mrs. Qin had been listening from the sidelines, but she hadn’t said a word.

’After all, it’s just a minor issue,’ she thought. ’My husband can handle it.’

But when she saw Qin Wenying’s expression, she had a feeling. ’Is this little rascal about to stir up some new trouble?’

Qin Wenying cleared her throat.

"So, here’s the thing. I have some wonderful news to tell you—"

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Qin immediately quipped, "What, you’ve found someone and you’re getting married?"

Qin Wenying’s expression froze for a moment before she rolled her eyes.

"Mom, can’t you ever think of something positive? Why do you always have to say something so discouraging right when a person is happiest?"

Mrs. Qin glared at her. "You’re the one who said you had wonderful news. Isn’t getting married the most wonderful news there is?"

Qin Wenying was completely speechless.

’Why does getting married have to be the only big happy event in a person’s life?’

’Forget it,’ she thought. ’I’d better stop beating around the bush and just say it.’

"I bought a courtyard house."

"What? You bought a courtyard house?"

Mrs. Qin was stunned.

"Yes." Qin Wenying nodded seriously. "The one right next to Mingxue’s. The family that lived there was transferred for work, so I bought it."

Mrs. Qin: ...?

’Buying a house is such a huge deal, and she talks about it so casually? Does she think she just bought a pound of pork or something?’

Hold on—

"Was the money you asked me for last time to buy that courtyard house?"

"Yep! Where else would I have gotten the money?" ’I haven’t saved much after just a few years in the army!’

Mrs. Qin: ...?

’Where did I put my broom?’

’That little rascal—buying a courtyard house is a huge deal, and she went and did it without telling anyone in the family.’

Just as Mrs. Qin was fuming, Mr. Qin spoke up. "This is wonderful. Plus, the house is right next to Mingxue’s, which is even better. Good thing you were quick and snatched it up. Otherwise, it would’ve gone to someone else."

Qin Wenying was delighted to hear her dad’s words.

"You’re not angry, Dad?"

Mr. Qin was very lenient with his daughter.

"This is a good thing, what’s there to be angry about? The fact that you bought it in time shows you’re well-informed and decisive. This is excellent, truly."

Just then, Granny Qin walked over, smiling. "It really is a good thing. Not many people are selling houses these days. It’s wonderful that Wenying can have her own place. And it’s next to Mingxue’s, so visiting each other will be much easier. My granddaughter has a good eye, acting so decisively."

Hearing her grandmother’s words made Qin Wenying even happier.

"Thank you, Granny!"

Mrs. Qin: ...?

Then, Qin Wenying turned to look at her mom.

"Mom, I’m sorry. I just wanted it to be a surprise. Please don’t be angry."

Mrs. Qin glared at her. "So you were afraid I’d object to you buying the house?"

’So, I’m the only one who’s angry here?’

"Of course not! How could you think that? My mom is the most open-minded person I know. Why would she ever object to me buying a courtyard house? If I had told you, you probably would’ve insisted on paying for it yourself, right?"
