Chapter 640: She’s Really One Thing After Another

Just then, Qin Wenze returned.

He was surprised to see Qin Wenhao and Fu Mingxue. "You’re here so early?"

Qin Wenhao asked directly, "How’s Qin Wenying?"

"She’s awake. Mom sent me back to have Aunt Li pack some of Wen Ying’s clothes. I’ll take them to the hospital in a little while."

Aunt Li was just coming out of the kitchen. Hearing this, she said at once, "I already packed them last night. I’ll go get them."

With that, she went upstairs.

Then, Qin Yue spoke up. "My sister and I don’t have school today. We want to go see Auntie."

In their memories, their aunt had always been very good to them, even though she was rarely home.

She was someone the siblings looked up to.

To the two siblings, their aunt, uncle, and aunt-in-law were all incredibly impressive people.

When Qin Wenze heard his son, he refused outright. "No. Wait until your aunt is out of the hospital. She’ll be at home then, and you can see her."

Seeing his request denied, Qin Yue couldn’t help but look to his grandfather.

Mr. Qin spoke up. "Listen to your father on this one. Once your aunt is discharged, she’ll be home. You can spend lots of time with her and keep her company then."

’Maybe if my daughter spends more time with the kids, she’ll start thinking about getting married and having children of her own.’

As a father, his way of thinking was still rather traditional—it would be best if his daughter were willing to get married and have children.

’After all, it wouldn’t stop her from continuing her service in the military. But what would she do when she got older, if she were all alone?’

’Of course, if his daughter was truly unwilling, he wouldn’t force her.’

’That daughter of his had a rebellious streak. The more you insisted she do something, the less likely she was to do it.’

Seeing that their grandfather was also against it, the two siblings were very disappointed.

However, they were also very obedient to their grandfather.

"Okay, Grandpa!"

"Okay, Grandpa!"

"Go on and play," Mr. Qin said, sending the two children away.

Seeing there was nothing else for them to do, Qin Wenhao took his wife home.

However, as soon as Fu Mingxue got home, she got on her electric bike and headed to the research institute.

A short while later, the person meant to pick up Qin Wenhao arrived as well.

──

In the blink of an eye, the day of Fu Mingxue’s departure arrived.

Before she left, Mrs. Fu said to her:

"About those shoes... I’m not going to do it."

’She’d thought it over and over, and it just didn’t feel right.’

’Doing it for myself is one thing, but doing it for a factory... that’s too much trouble.’

’What if something went wrong? Wouldn’t that just cause trouble for my own daughter?’

’She felt it was better to just drop the whole thing.’

’Besides, her daughter was already so busy with work.’

’There’s no need for her to be running around for this little project of mine.’

Fu Mingxue had been so busy the last couple of days that she had almost forgotten about the matter herself.

Now that she heard her mother truly didn’t want to go through with it, she nodded. "Alright, then that’s settled. This was always up to you, anyway."

Mrs. Fu breathed a sigh of relief.

"You be safe out there, too."

"Mom, don’t worry! I’ll be perfectly safe. I might come back here for a bit afterward, or I might go straight back to my post."

"Alright, I understand. Just focus on your work. You don’t need to worry about the child, and you don’t need to worry about me."

"I’ll buy you a washing machine next time I’m back."

Mrs. Fu: ...?

’What, do I not have hands? Do I really need one of those ridiculously expensive washing machines to do laundry?’

’What kind of family did she think we were?’

’It’s a good thing this is the present day. Back in the old days, wouldn’t this be considered decadent hedonism?’

’Besides, could that thing really get clothes cleaner than I can?’

"Don’t buy it. It’s not about the money. I happen to like washing by hand."

Fu Mingxue: ...?
