After finishing her noodles, Fu Mingxue started pulling things out of the fertilizer sack she’d brought with her.

"What is all this? Why did you pack so much stuff?" Mrs. Fu had noticed the sack the moment Fu Mingxue walked in the door.

She had been curious then, but since her daughter said she was hungry, she hadn’t asked.

After all, she wouldn’t go through her daughter’s belongings.

’What if there’s something important in there?’

But now that her daughter was pulling things out right in front of her, she could certainly ask.

"These are some things I bought from the locals there, plus some toys for the kids. The rest I picked up from a friend’s house after I got off the train. I’d asked them to buy it for me ahead of time."

Bullshit!

’It was all reward drops from her space from the past few days.’

’There was a huge pile. If she didn’t take it out now, her space would probably run out of room.’

Mrs. Fu: ...?

"Did you buy this meat today? It’s so fresh!"

"Yes, my friend bought it for me today. I was worried we were out of meat, so I had them buy extra. You can put it in the fridge in a bit."

Mrs. Fu: ...?

’But she’d turned the fridge off a long time ago.’

’After all, doesn’t electricity cost money?’

’It was just her and the two children at home, and it wasn’t even that hot out. Why would she need a refrigerator?’

’If she needed something, she could just go out and buy it, couldn’t she?’

"You bought way too much. This looks like thirty-some pounds. Who buys this much meat at once? Do you think the meat-packing plant is going to run out?"

"Mom, we can cure it! Besides, we can give some of the extra to the Qin family."

"In that case, give a generous portion to the Qin family."

"Okay. Oh, right. This fabric is for you and the kids to make clothes. Two of the bolts are for my mother-in-law."

Mrs. Fu: ...?

"You’re being so careless! How could you put the meat in the same bag as the fabric? Won’t the smell get all over it?"

"No, it’s all wrapped up. Don’t worry."

’She just hadn’t thought of it earlier and didn’t put it in a suitcase beforehand.’

’So just now, while her mom wasn’t looking at the fertilizer sack, she had secretly pulled it out of her space.’

Mrs. Fu quickly pulled all the fabric out of the sack.

There were several bolts, enough for everyone to make a few new outfits.

’When it came to spending money, her daughter didn’t even bat an eye.’

Fu Mingxue mostly pulled out pantry staples like grains, oil, rice, and flour. That’s what the sack was mainly filled with.

But there was also milk powder and other nutritional supplements, including malted milk powder and about ten bottles of a brain-boosting tonic.

After Fu Mingxue had pulled everything out, Mrs. Fu felt the urge to scold her. ’Why on earth did you buy so much stuff? It was just way too much.’

"We’ll never be able to finish all this!"

"Then you and the kids should stop skimping. Eat up."

"Set some aside for the Qin family. You have too many of those brain tonics; give a good number of them to the Qins."

"I’ll take six bottles, and the remaining four are for you."

Fu Mingxue set aside all the things she planned to take to the Qin family.

She loaded everything into the cargo bed of her tricycle.

"Mom, how are you finding the tricycle?"

"It’s great. I saw they’ve started selling them in the stores now. They cost over a thousand each! Tsk tsk, there’s no way we could afford that—"

"A regular bicycle costs a hundred and sixty. This one is electric, so a thousand is actually a bargain! The people who can’t afford this probably can’t even afford a bicycle, right? And there are definitely people who can afford it."

Mrs. Fu supposed that was true.

Fu Mingxue quickly finished loading up the items.

"Mom, I’m going to head over to the Qin family’s place."

Mrs. Fu nodded. "Alright." Then she asked, "You’ll be back for dinner, right?"

"I will. I’m guessing that once I get there, the two kids will insist on coming back with me, so you’d better make extra for dinner."

"Alright." That went without saying. Mrs. Fu knew that as soon as the children saw their mother, they would be stuck to her side and insist on coming home.
