Mrs. Gao told Gao Lan that Qin Wenze had moved back to the Qin Family Mansion.

After hearing the news, Gao Lan nearly flew into a rage and smashed everything in the house.

Mrs. Gao didn’t notice the look on her daughter’s face. She was too busy angrily adding fuel to the fire.

"The Qin family is just too much! They’ve always looked down on you. They claimed they disowned Qin Wenze, but the moment you two divorced, they had him move right back in."

"If you ask me, they were probably plotting to have Qin Wenze divorce you all along. As soon as they saw you couldn’t have any more children, they didn’t want you anymore."

"And I’m telling you, you settled for too little. You should have demanded ten thousand! After all, it’s because of his son that you can’t have any more children. And if a woman is barren, what hope do you have of marrying into a good family now?"

The thought of the lost five thousand yuan—a massive sum—made Mrs. Gao both indignant and heartbroken.

That was five thousand yuan! Their family hadn’t saved that much money in decades.

"I’m not getting married again—" Gao Lan was in no mood to even think about remarrying.

But Mrs. Gao clearly had other ideas. "What do you mean you’re not getting married again? How can a woman survive without a man to rely on? Or do you want to give people a reason to gossip about our family?"

"The way I see it, not only should you remarry, you should do it quickly. Let Qin Wenze and the rest of the Qin Family see that a daughter of the Gao Family isn’t some unwanted leftover."

"Don’t think that just because you’ve left Qin Wenze, you don’t have other good prospects. I’ll have a matchmaker start asking around and find a good family for you."

After saying this, she saw the resistant and unhappy look on Gao Lan’s face and quickly added, "Mom would never do anything to harm you."

Gao Lan was extremely frustrated. She had a house, money, and a job.

She wasn’t desperate to get married.

"Mom, don’t bring up marriage again. I’m not doing it."

"Not getting married isn’t an option. What woman doesn’t get married? Don’t you worry about it; Mom knows what she’s doing. By the way, I’m not comfortable with you living here all alone. This house has plenty of empty rooms, so your father and I are moving in with you."

Gao Lan was shocked. "—Mom, I’m not alone! I have Yao Hui, don’t I?"

"The boy is still so young. You have to work during the day. If your father and I move in, we can take care of you and the child. And another thing—since you’ve divorced Qin Wenze, Yao Hui’s surname should be changed back. He’s our Gao Family’s grandson, so why should he have the surname Qin?"

’I thought having the Qin surname would get him a piece of the Qin family’s fortune, but we ended up with nothing.’

’Like hell he’ll keep the Qin name.’

When she heard about changing the surname, Gao Lan hesitated.

"—Th-that’s not a good idea right now, is it? Maybe... we should wait a bit?"

"What’s not good about it? Isn’t Yao Hui our Gao Family’s grandson? What’s wrong with changing his name back to Gao? Are you really going to let him keep an outsider’s surname? It was one thing when you were married, but you’re divorced now and he’s still a Qin. What, are you still dreaming that Qin Wenze will remarry you?"

Goaded like this by Mrs. Gao, Gao Lan’s expression turned ugly. "Who’s dreaming of remarrying Qin Wenze? I’d marry a cripple before I’d ever get back together with him!"

Hearing this, Mrs. Gao was delighted.

’After all, if Gao Lan really did remarry Qin Wenze, wouldn’t she have to give the house back to him?’

"It’s good that you think that way. We’ll go change his surname tomorrow. Also, your father and I will move in this afternoon. You don’t need to lift a finger; we can handle it ourselves. I’m heading back for now."

Without giving Gao Lan a chance to refuse, she turned and walked right out.
