Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man
Chapter 766 - 264: They Returned Home (Part 2)
Qin Mei gave Jie Jingchen’s hair a quick, rough toweling, then tossed the towel at him. She hopped off the bed and grabbed the backpack she had already packed.
Qin Mei had come to Xiangjiang in such a rush that she hadn’t brought anything with her. But she was prepared for the trip back to Huaxia, with a bag stuffed to the brim.
Jie Jingchen chuckled as he watched her. ’She really is in a hurry.’ He picked up the towel from the bed, then got up to get dressed.
A little over ten minutes later, Jie Jingchen was immaculately dressed, carrying a large bag in one hand and leading Qin Mei downstairs with the other.
Qin Mei had thought her grandfather and grandmother would lead everyone out to see them off for a scene of lingering goodbyes. But in the end, only the butler was there. Even Jing Qi didn’t make an appearance.
’It’s better this way, skipping all the emotional goodbyes.’
Jie Jingchen helped Qin Mei into the helicopter. He got in next, followed by the butler.
Qin Mei was shocked. She leaned close to Jie Jingchen’s ear and whispered, "Is Uncle Qiao coming back to Huaxia with us?"
"Uncle Qiao is escorting us back to Huaxia, and he’s also picking up Jing Wu," Jie Jingchen replied.
Qin Mei was stunned. "Picking up Jing Wu? What do you mean?"
"Grandfather and Grandmother are getting on in years." Jie Jingchen didn’t spell it out, but Qin Mei wasn’t a fool; she understood the implication.
Jing Qi was still too young to run the Qiao Family, and with Jie Jingchen based in Huaxia, he wouldn’t be able to help if trouble arose. Distant water can’t put out a nearby fire.
This made Qin Mei even more frustrated. Jing Qi wasn’t taking the college entrance exams, and now even Jing Wu...
’If Jing Wu is leaving, what’s going to happen with my renovation?’
’Jing Wu had a gift for interior design; she’d thought he would become a titan in the industry. Now, it seemed that was all for nothing.’
But compared to Jing Wu’s situation, Qin Mei felt it was a greater shame that Jing Qi wasn’t taking the college entrance exams.
「Shijiu City. An open field.」
Qin Mei didn’t wait for Jie Jingchen to help her down; she just jumped out.
"Fourth Sister-in-law!" Jie Jingjue, who had been waiting for some time, waved happily at Qin Mei.
Just looking at the flamboyantly dressed Jie Jingjue gave Qin Mei a headache. ’The guy is completely unreliable. If the Qiao Family falls into his hands, it would be a wonder if he didn’t squander the entire fortune.’
Qin Mei walked up to Jie Jingjue and got straight to the point. "You’re leaving. What’s going to happen with my renovation?"
"It’s finished," Jie Jingjue said, looking smug and practically begging for praise.
"Finished?" Qin Mei was doubtful. This guy had a habit of installing things, tearing them down, and redoing them, all under the guise of "not striving for speed, but for perfection."
"I gave the keys to Mom. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed," Jie Jingjue said, then added, "Fourth Sister-in-law, don’t forget me next time you need any decorating done!"
Qin Mei gave a wry smile. ’He’s going all the way to Xiangjiang, how could I possibly hire him?’
When Jie Jingjue saw that she didn’t immediately agree, he misinterpreted it as her doubting his design skills. He didn’t press the issue. Actions speak louder than words. Once his Fourth Sister-in-law saw his finished work, she would be completely convinced of his talent.
The butler and Jie Jingchen started unloading their things. Qin Mei was dumbfounded. ’How can there be so much stuff?’
"Second Young Master." The butler took the backpack from Jie Jingjue, glanced at Jie Jingchen, and boarded the helicopter first.
Jie Jingchen gave Jie Jingjue a list of stern instructions. Jie Jingjue nodded along to everything he said. Whether or not he’d actually follow through was another matter entirely, but he had to at least show an attitude that would put his Fourth Brother’s mind at ease.
"Fourth Brother, Fourth Sister-in-law, I’m off!" Jie Jingjue’s departure was smooth and carefree.
Jie Jingchen and Qin Mei stood side by side, watching the helicopter until it disappeared from view.
Qin Mei looked down at the pile of bags, big and small. "How are we going to get all this home?"
Jie Jingchen was also exasperated. ’Jing Wu is a special kind of unreliable. Forget about bringing Dad’s car, he didn’t even ride a bike over.’
"Why did you bring so much stuff?" Qin Mei asked curiously.
"I didn’t pack it," Jie Jingchen said, shaking his head. "I’m used to traveling light. All these bags are a hassle."
"Then who did?" Qin Mei asked.
"Grandma, Xu Jiali, Jing Qi, and Qiao Wei," Jie Jingchen answered.
Qin Mei was so moved she could have cried. They hadn’t come to see them off, but they had prepared all of this for them.
"Meimei, you stay here and keep an eye on things. I’ll be right back," Jie Jingchen said to her.
Thinking he was going to look for a car, Qin Mei waved him on. "Go on."
After Jie Jingchen left, Qin Mei crouched down, looking at the pile of bags and wondering what was inside.
She tried lifting the three large bags; they were surprisingly heavy. Her curiosity intensified, but she restrained herself from opening them. Seeing how tightly they were packed, she figured it would be a hassle to try and close them again if she did. ’I’ll wait till I’m home to open these blind boxes.’
A short while later, Jie Jingchen returned. He didn’t have a car, or even a bicycle. Instead, he was followed by three burly men.
The three men walked up and immediately hoisted the luggage onto their shoulders. Jie Jingchen picked up her large backpack, took her hand, and they followed behind the three men.
"How much are you paying them?" Qin Mei whispered.
