Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family

Chapter 735 Unknown factor

Chapter 735 Unknown factor

Sheina, the ever loyal secretary, immediately offered up her own bow for Michael to take. Even if he had to take out the entire Darkwood from her weapon, she wouldn’t mind it at all.

“You can take every last strand of Darkwood, Lord Michael.”

Her trust in Michael was incomprehensible.

“Thanks. Don’t worry, your bow isn’t going to be compromised because of this small strand,” he told her.

Either way, once the Darkwood farm was up and running, he would be able to replace her string if it did get damaged from getting a small seed from the Darkwood.

He then took her bow and pinched a strand of Darkwood, smaller than a fingernail and thinner than hair itself.

If he weren’t holding it using magic, then it would have already flown off somewhere in the wind.

According to the experiments, it didn’t matter how big the starting seed was for the Darkwood. As long as it was taken from a mature root, then it would be able to regrow its own body thanks to its leftover DNA.

Once he obtained the seed, he immediately went back to his Isolated Room and entered the farm.

He kneeled down in the center of the room before digging out an inch-deep hole in the soil.

Then, he carefully put the seed inside and reburied it carefully, patting it down flat.

After that, he reached down deep in his pocket and took out a pouch containing Morel Spores that he got from the old man.

He took out a pinch and spread it out on the soil as if he was

“There. Now we’ll see if this farming system works,” he said to himself.

the third day, he should see signs of a gle sprout of gre vines growing from the soil. If at that point he hadn’t seen any growth, then it meant that this farm wasn’t working as he intended.

I guess I’ll have to wait now.

Early morning on the third day after planting the Darkwood, Michael eagerly went back to the Isolated Room to see the progress in the farm.

As soon as he entered the Control Room, he turned around and looked towards the monitors showing the Isolated Room’s telemetry readings.

The temperature, heat, and moisture were all at levels that he left it at three days ago, which meant that the Darkwood’s progress should have entered its sprouting phase by now.

But as he looked at the CCTV footage inside, he saw nothing rooting out of the soil.

It didn’t work?

He quickly entered the Isolated Room, feeling himself transported into the white farm room immediately.

Then, he looked at the soil and saw that it had been left undisturbed from the first day he planted it. No leaf, stem, or root had yet to burst out of the soil.

This should have worked. All the factors in the environment were exactly as the Darkwood Experiments stated.

He made sure to keep the water tanks filled up nicely, he made sure to spread a pinch of Morel Spores to the soil every day, and he even made sure to sing to it everyday with Elven whistles.

Still, it didn’t work.

He began mulling it over and over again trying to think of a reason why this farm failed.

But then, he realized. Maybe there was another factor that the Darkwood Experiments book had yet to figure out.

After all, they too had yet to succeed in growing their own Darkwood. If they had, then they would have definitely already sold it to the

Elves for a hefty price.

This means I have to do experiments of my own… ChatJK5, any ideas?

ChatJK5 took a second to recalibrate before giving him a multiple-step plan that would efficiently solve for the Darkwood’s growing problem.

She went through thousands and thousands of iterations and possible combinations of experiments. She was so meticulous that she even planned to vary the moisture levels just by a few decimal points.

This could work, but it would definitely take a long time before he found a solution if he went through it with brute force.

As expected… I’ll need the help of the Elves.

Perhaps they would have a second perspective on the whole

situation.

He was just about to get out of the Isolated Room when all of a sudden, he felt a small rumbling noise.

He quickly turned around, only to see a small green sprout sticking

out of the soil.

The Darkwood was growing!

What the hell? Was I just impatient?

[Negative. Darkwood grows tremendously slow like most plants]

Throughout all the experiments done with Darkwood, its stem would always grow very slow, over the course of a few hours. It would slowly peek out of its soil; it wouldn’t suddenly pop out like popcorn.

This was definitely a weird behavior from Darkwood.

It’s good that the Darkwood is growing… but we don’t know why.

[There seemed to be an unknown factor that we had yet to take into account. And somehow, that factor was able to not only grow Darkwood, but accelerate its growth as well.]

After hearing those words, Michael became very curious. According to

the Elves and all accounts of Darkwood in the Ancient Era, it would

grow to its maturity in a month.

But this unknown factor could clearly accelerate its growth, meaning

that if he fully understood how it worked, then he could possibly shorten its growing period tremendously, thereby increasing the

yield!

This was amazing!

ChatJK5, analyze all factors this instant. Think of everything, from

mana, to Aubility Power.

[Understood, Michael.]

He and ChatJK5 began testing out their theories left and right. He was

so focused on these experiments that he spent nearly three days cooped up in the Isolated Room trying to find the unknown factor.

Unfortunately, all of their experiments were useless. He couldn’t make it grow extremely fast unlike that one instance.

He was starting to think that he was still under the mushroom’s

effects and he just hallucinated the whole thing.

[You are still lucid,] ChatJK5 reminded him.

After spending hours on end doing experiments, he couldn’t take it

anymore and needed a break.

He exited the Isolated Room and laid down on his bed.

This unknown factor was impossible to track down. He’d just waste

his days trying to figure it out.

The only good news that came out of this was the fact that the

Darkwood was growing as expected. At this point, it will probably reach its maturity next month.

For now, he was satisfied with that. The fact that he could even get it to grow in the first place was a tremendous win in his book.

While Michael was busy with his experiments, a lot of things were

happening in Metropolis.

Alaric, Bobby, Aerith, Lucius, and every other leader in the Major and

Minor Factions were gathered in one place.

“Alaric, why are we here?” asked Aerith.

This was the question on everyone’s mind as soon as they got the

letter summoning them to Alaric’s estate. It must have been something major since he basically gathered every important person

in Metropolis.

“This is a matter that involves everyone,” said Alaric
