Reborn as a Snow Wolf: My Bloodline Ancestor System
Chapter 63 : The Seven Seals
Chapter 63: Chapter 63 : The Seven Seals
The Blackfang settlement gathered around the central fire that evening.
The elders had been called together, along with Rowan, Mira, Aren, Kael, and several of the senior hunters. The younger wolves remained farther away, unaware of the seriousness of the discussion.
Ash sat near the edge of the gathering.
The flames moved gently in the cold air.
For once, nobody was talking loudly.
Kael had explained what he remembered about the ancient seals.
He had not told them everything.
Some parts of the Silver Lynx records were too damaged to interpret, while other sections contained symbols that even Kael no longer understood.
Mira listened carefully.
"The Guardian wasn’t protecting only Moonveil," she said.
Kael nodded.
"No."
"Then the covenant wasn’t about one mountain."
"No."
Rowan’s expression became serious.
"It was about the entire continent."
Kael looked toward him.
"Perhaps even more than that."
Ash remained silent.
His attention was elsewhere.
He could still see the energy network.
Even while sitting beside the fire, his perception remained active.
The world around him appeared layered.
The ordinary world existed above.
The ancient network existed beneath it.
And somewhere between the two, faint traces of corrupted energy moved through the land.
Ash closed his eyes.
The image became clearer.
Seven seals.
Six still connected.
One broken.
Moonveil damaged.
The western seal dead.
But something else disturbed him.
The energy from the western region wasn’t moving toward the broken seal.
It was moving away from it.
Slowly.
Like a current escaping through a crack.
Ash opened his eyes.
"Something is leaking."
Everyone turned toward him.
Mira frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"The western seal."
Ash looked at Kael.
"The energy isn’t simply gone. Something is escaping through the place where the seal broke."
Kael’s expression became grim.
"That wasn’t mentioned in our records."
Ash nodded.
"I don’t think the records were complete."
Aren shifted closer.
"Can you tell what it is?"
Ash closed his eyes again.
He focused.
At first there was only darkness.
Then the blue network appeared.
He followed the broken line.
The energy moved through the western mountains.
It travelled beneath forests.
Across frozen valleys.
Toward the distant ocean.
Then Ash noticed something moving alongside it.
Not energy.
A presence.
Something was travelling through the ancient network.
Ash opened his eyes sharply.
"I don’t know."
Kael studied him.
"Is it coming here?"
Ash looked toward Moonveil.
"No."
That should have been reassuring.
It wasn’t.
"It’s going somewhere else."
The elders exchanged uneasy glances.
Mira finally spoke.
"Where?"
Ash turned toward the west.
"The ocean."
Silence returned.
The thought of something ancient moving beneath the continent toward the sea unsettled everyone.
The Frostfang Pack had always understood danger through tracks, scents, sounds, and visible enemies.
This was different.
There was nothing to hunt.
Nothing to see.
Only an ancient network beneath their paws.
And something moving through it.
Later that night, Ash left the settlement alone.
Snow fell gently through the darkness.
He walked toward a small ridge overlooking the valley.
The moon was hidden behind clouds, but the snow reflected enough light to reveal the distant peaks.
Ash sat down.
He activated Ancient Energy Perception.
The world transformed.
The blue lines appeared beneath the earth.
Moonveil glowed in the distance.
The northern seal remained stable.
The eastern one pulsed faintly.
The Great Eagle region contained another.
Several others remained beyond his range.
But the western line drew his attention.
Ash followed it.
The farther he looked, the weaker the energy became.
Then he noticed something.
A section of the network had been deliberately severed.
Not damaged by age.
Not destroyed by natural forces.
Cut.
Ash’s ears lowered.
Someone had broken the ancient road.
He concentrated harder.
A faint trace remained around the damaged section.
It looked like black residue.
Corrupted energy.
Ash recognized the sensation.
It reminded him of the black mark he had seen beneath the Ancient Predator’s scales.
His heartbeat quickened.
The creature hadn’t been merely injured.
Something had marked it.
Something connected to the broken seal.
Ash stood.
Behind him, snow shifted.
He turned.
Aren was standing several steps away.
"You disappeared."
"I needed to think."
Aren walked closer.
"What did you find?"
Ash hesitated.
"Something is wrong with the western seal."
Aren looked toward the mountains.
"Is it dangerous?"
Ash considered the question.
"I don’t know."
He looked at Moonveil.
"But I think whatever happened there may be connected to the creature I devoured."
Aren’s expression hardened.
"The Ancient Predator?"
Ash nodded.
"It was running from something."
He paused.
"And whatever it was running from may have passed through the western seal."
Aren remained silent.
After several moments, he asked, "What do we do?"
Ash looked back toward the settlement.
The Blackfangs were rebuilding.
The cubs were sleeping.
The hunters were preparing for another winter.
For the first time since arriving in the valley, Ash understood how fragile their new home truly was.
They had survived the Ice Bears.
They had survived the Dreadborn.
They had survived the collapse of their old territory.
But none of those dangers had been invisible.
None had been buried beneath the world.
Ash looked toward the distant western horizon.
"We learn."
Aren looked at him.
"Learn what?"
"Everything."
Ash’s voice remained calm.
"We need to understand the seals, the ancient energy, the Guardian, and whatever broke the western one."
Aren nodded slowly.
"And Moonveil?"
Ash’s gaze returned to the mountain.
"The first seal is already damaged."
Aren’s expression tightened.
Ash continued, "If one broken seal is enough to make ancient creatures flee across continents, then we can’t wait until the others begin failing."
A cold wind crossed the ridge.
Ash looked at the blue energy beneath Moonveil.
It pulsed once.
Then again.
The third pulse was weaker.
Ash frowned.
Something was wrong.
He focused.
The ancient network beneath Moonveil had changed again.
A small amount of energy was flowing away from the seal.
Toward the west.
Ash watched it disappear into the darkness.
Then another sensation reached him.
Something else.
A distant presence.
Not large.
Not powerful.
But intelligent.
Ash turned toward the forest.
Nothing stood between the trees.
Yet his Ancient Energy Perception showed a faint disturbance.
Someone had been there.
Recently.
Ash moved toward the trees.
Aren followed.
They searched the snow.
At first there was nothing.
Then Ash found a footprint.
Not wolf.
Not lynx.
Not bear.
It was small and narrow, belonging to a creature Ash did not recognize.
Beside it was a tiny fragment of black crystal.
Ash lowered his head.
The fragment carried corrupted energy.
He touched it.
The crystal immediately cracked.
A faint pulse travelled through Ash’s claws.
Then he heard something in the distance.
A low movement through the forest.
Aren turned.
"Did you hear that?"
Ash stared into the darkness.
The sound came again.
Something was moving between the trees.
Fast.
Too fast for an ordinary animal.
Ash’s body lowered instinctively.
His new Predator’s Instinct activated before he consciously decided to move.
The presence stopped.
Ash waited.
Nothing emerged.
After several seconds, the sound disappeared.
Aren looked at him.
"Was it one of the Dreadborn?"
Ash shook his head.
"No."
"Then what was it?"
Ash looked at the broken crystal beneath his paw.
"I don’t know."
He picked it up carefully.
The Ancient Energy Perception showed a faint trail leading toward the western forest.
Ash followed it with his eyes.
Then he saw something carved into a tree several dozen steps away.
A symbol.
Not the Guardian symbol.
Not the Dreadborn mark.
Something new.
Three curved lines surrounded by a dark circle.
Ash stared at it.
The symbol pulsed once.
His relic responded.
A cold sensation passed through his body.
The System appeared.
[Unknown Ancient Energy Signature detected.]
[Source: Unknown.]
[Connection to Seven-Seal Network: Confirmed.]
Ash’s eyes narrowed.
A second notification appeared.
[Warning: External interference detected.]
Then a third.
[Western Seal status: Broken.]
[Moonveil Seal status: 59%.]
Ash’s expression changed.
The number had fallen.
The seal beneath Moonveil had been at 61%.
Then 59%.
Something was accelerating.
Aren stepped closer.
"What happened?"
Ash looked toward Moonveil.
The mountain stood silent beneath the stars.
But beneath it, the ancient energy was moving faster.
"The seal is weakening."
Aren’s ears lowered.
Ash stared at the distant western forest.
The strange symbol remained carved into the tree.
Someone had entered their territory.
Someone connected to the ancient network.
And whatever they were doing, it was affecting Moonveil.
Ash looked toward the sleeping settlement behind him.
The Blackfangs had finally found a place they could call home.
Now the ancient world was beginning to reach them.
He turned toward Moonveil one final time.
The mountain remained silent.
But beneath the snow, the seven-seal network continued to pulse through the darkness.
Six seals still carried ancient energy.
One had been broken long ago.
And the first had begun to fail.
Ash did not yet know what would happen when the first seal reached nothing.
He only knew that something had already begun moving through the spaces between them.
And somewhere beyond the western mountains, beyond the frozen forests and the distant ocean, the ancient world was waking.
