Gu Muxue’s expression turned to panic. She scrambled to grab the pillbox that had fallen out, but Xue Rui was faster. He snatched it in an instant, holding it up and shaking it gently. It made a rattling sound.

“What’s this medicine?” Xue Rui murmured to himself. The words “Morning,” “Noon,” and “Evening” were written on the box. Now, only the “Evening” compartment still held a pill.

But he hadn’t seen Gu Muxue take any medicine, not in the morning or at noon. This meant she was taking it secretly, away from others.

However, it could also be leftovers from a previous time. It didn’t necessarily prove that Gu Muxue was sick.

Just as Xue Rui was about to ask something, a sharp pain shot through his left hand. Gu Muxue had bitten him.

While Xue Rui was stunned, Gu Muxue quickly stuffed the pillbox back into her bag.

“Who said you could go rummaging through my bag?” Gu Muxue demanded, her cheeks puffed with anger. She muttered to herself, “I had a breakout a while ago, so I went to the hospital and got a prescription.”

Xue Rui looked at Lin Ruoxi’s eyes in the rearview mirror and asked, “Xixi, is that true?”

“Um… yes,” Lin Ruoxi said softly.

Xue Rui sighed internally. Lin Ruoxi hadn’t even turned around. More importantly, when Gu Muxue had bitten him just now, the girl hadn’t tried to stop her.

In Xue Rui’s eyes, Lin Ruoxi’s inaction made her an “accomplice.”

Gu Muxue and Lin Ruoxi’s combined age was barely over thirty. How could they possibly fool him?

But Xue Rui didn’t press the issue. He changed the subject in a few words, “Muxue, you must be eating whatever you want lately. Too much spicy food. And here I was thinking about opening a hot pot restaurant.”

Gu Muxue avoided his gaze, hiding her bag further away from Xue Rui. “Ruoxi, where’s Guo Ziyang?”

Lin Ruoxi started the car. “Um, he said something came up, but I don’t think he wants to hang out with us anymore.”

Xue Rui grinned. Guo Ziyang must have been so demoralized by the girls that he lost all his confidence and made an excuse to bail.

Gu Muxue took out her phone, found the number Guo Ziyang had given her, and dialed.

The phone rang for a few seconds before a slightly weary voice answered, “Hello? Who is this?”

“Guo Ziyang, it’s Gu Muxue. If your elders ask what you did today, remember to say you were out with us,” Gu Muxue said coldly.

“Oh, okay,” Guo Ziyang said, stunned. He hadn’t expected Gu Muxue to use such a commanding tone.

“I’m hanging up.” Gu Muxue said and immediately ended the call.

Xue Rui poked the girl’s nose. “Well, what do you know. You have two sides to you. I’m not worried about you being ostracized anymore. You’re the leader of the pack, ditching people and then making them act for you.”

Still, the girl was thorough. She even had Guo Ziyang coordinate his alibi.

“You’re slandering me!” Gu Muxue’s beautiful eyes narrowed as she grabbed Xue Rui’s finger and bit down.

“HISS!” Xue Rui instinctively sucked in a breath. He should have known poking this girl’s nose wouldn’t end well. Now his index finger was caught in her teeth.

But Gu Muxue wasn’t really biting down hard. His finger only felt a slight, sharp pain.

Xue Rui pushed his finger a little further, lightly tapping Gu Muxue’s tongue. “Muxue, I just used the restroom and forgot to wash my hands.”

Gu Muxue’s neck stiffened. Her small face flushed a visible shade of red, and her jaw gradually loosened. She spat lightly in Xue Rui’s direction. “Ptooey!”

Xue Rui squinted and dodged backward, pulling Gu Muxue into his arms in one smooth motion.

Gu Muxue glanced furtively out the car window. The two people inside the car were people she could completely trust, and there were no outside eyes on them now. A sense of security washed over her. She snuggled into Xue Rui’s embrace, nuzzling against him and tucking her head down to enjoy the quiet moment.

Xue Rui tentatively placed a hand on the back of Gu Muxue’s head. The girl in his arms didn’t react at all, letting him stroke her hair. It felt like he was petting a cat.

‘Is this still the Gu Muxue I know?’

“What are you trying to do, constantly stroking my head like that?” Gu Muxue asked, her eyes still closed.

Xue Rui said shamelessly, “I’m checking to see if you’re shedding.”

“You’re the one who’s shedding!” Gu Muxue lightly punched Xue Rui’s leg.

“Muxue, why are you cussing?”

“What? I’m not.”

“That’s how people cuss in Guangdong Province.”

Gu Muxue said, her cheeks puffing up again, “Jerk… D-don’t you joke with me like that.”

Lin Ruoxi watched the two of them fool around in the rearview mirror.

Seeing Xue Rui holding another girl in his arms initially made her feel a little uncomfortable. But when she saw how happily he was smiling, she couldn’t help but smile along with him.

“Where are we going?” Lin Ruoxi asked.

She needed to plan the route, or they would get stuck in traffic.
