He had taught the girl plenty of ways to turn people down, and he’d noticed long ago that Guo Ziyang had designs on his “little secretary.”

He hadn’t stepped in himself because a rejection from someone else would be nowhere near as devastating as a direct rejection from Lin Ruoxi.

As long as Guo Ziyang tried to flex, he was bound to get shot down by Lin Ruoxi.

The girl had a knack for saying devastatingly blunt things without even realizing it. Even he had been a victim before. She could, for instance, say with a completely straight face, “It’s not that hard. You can get the answer with just one look.”

Lin Ruoxi had no friends, and it wasn’t entirely other people’s fault.

“Third wheel?” Gu Muxue’s face flushed. ‘That bastard, Xue Rui… actually told her to get rid of Guo Ziyang?’

Just as she was disappointedly reaching for the rear door handle, she saw that Xue Rui had already opened it for her with a fawning smile, gesturing for her to get in.

“Hmph. Finally showing some sense,” Gu Muxue grumbled, tossing her purse at Xue Rui.

Xue Rui quickly caught it, ushered her into the car, and then slid into the back seat after her.

“Let’s see what this beauty has in her purse?” Xue Rui was suddenly intrigued. He remembered Lin Ruoxi letting it slip that Gu Muxue kept a photo of him in a hidden compartment of her wallet.

He’d take it out now and tease her with it.

Gu Muxue panicked and lunged for the purse. “Don’t go through my things!”

Xue Rui twisted away, keeping it out of her reach.

‘He suddenly felt that Gu Muxue was hiding something from him. Before they were official, he could rummage through her purse whenever he wanted, grabbing a snack or two. Why wouldn’t she let him now?’

‘It’s just a photo, isn’t it? What’s there to be so embarrassed about?’

Suddenly, a CLATTER.
