Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 494 - 337: Miracle Doctor
"Squad Leader Jiang, free tonight? How about you grab dinner with your big bro so we can celebrate?" Jiang Lecheng chuckled. His little sister had always had her life meticulously planned, even from a young age. She’d been class monitor year after year, and she’d always take the chance to brag to him about it.
She hadn’t bragged yet this year, so he figured Jiang Yuan had matured quite a bit.
"I’m the vice monitor. No need to celebrate..." Jiang Yuan mumbled.
Jiang Lecheng’s eyes shot wide. "Vice? Then who’s the actual monitor? Let me see what kind of person is even more capable than my little sister."
"Get lost, get lost, get lost! And don’t you dare come to my school." Jiang Yuan snatched the strawberries away and started pushing Jiang Lecheng out of the equipment room.
"Hey, I remember you saying back in elementary school that if you couldn’t be the head monitor, you’d rather not be one at all..."
"You still remember something I said in elementary school? Get out."
"Your last monitor was the homeroom teacher’s son. Is this one another nepotism case?"
"No! Now get out!"
Jiang Yuan was growing frustrated. She didn’t want to discuss the topic of the class monitor at all.
After Jiang Lecheng left, Zhao Ru walked into the equipment room, sighing. "Yuanyuan, Xue Rui has disappeared again. How could he just dump all the monitor’s work on you?"
The worst part was, she was also being forced to do a lot of the work. ’That Xue Rui really has no qualms about making girls do hard labor!’
’Aren’t girls in the computer science department supposed to be precious treasures?’
’So why does Xue Rui keep making the girls do all the work?’
’Who does that?’
"Jiang Yuan, let’s go to the advisor and suggest we hold another election in a month. I’ll campaign for you," Zhao Ru said with a serious look on her face.
Jiang Yuan slowly shook her head. "Forget it. You go on ahead. I can handle it here."
’I don’t know Xue Rui that well, but I can sense he’s proud. He’d never agree to be the vice monitor if he couldn’t be the main one.’
’But what does it matter to me whether Xue Rui is the monitor or not?’
’I don’t know what’s wrong with me. When it comes to Xue Rui, I always end up making decisions that are so out of character.’
’For example, there are couples hugging and kissing outside the girls’ dorm every night. But no matter how intimate they get, seeing them never affects me...’
’But when I saw Lin Ruoxi kiss Xue Rui this morning, I felt a strange pang of discomfort... ’
Jiang Yuan felt that she wasn’t herself anymore.
Lin Ruoxi crouched outside the door, nibbling on her finger. She felt like she was onto something.
’Why is Jiang Yuan’s attitude toward Xue Rui so bad?’
’Because he competed with her for the monitor position?’
Lin Ruoxi felt that wasn’t right. If that were the case, why would she be helping Xue Rui with his duties as monitor?
Suddenly, the image of another person flashed through her mind. ’Gu Muxue seems to be the same way... Her attitude toward Xue Rui is different from everyone else’s.’
Lin Ruoxi’s head snapped up. She had reached a startling conclusion—Jiang Yuan liked Xue Rui.
’A girl often doesn’t need a special reason to like someone; she just needs that person to make her feel special enough...’
’It was just like those boys and girls in high school who argued and fought all the time, but would instantly defend each other against any outside conflict.’
’Is Jiang Yuan’s attitude toward Xue Rui like that too?’
Lin Ruoxi saw her car slowly pull up to the back gate of the athletic field. Xue Rui was ready to go.
She hurried around to the front of the equipment room, just in time to meet Jiang Yuan as she was coming out. They almost crashed right into each other.
Lin Ruoxi took a step to her left, trying to let the other girl pass, but Jiang Yuan happened to take a step to her right...
Jiang Yuan gave a helpless smile. "Just give me the ball."
"Okay, thanks," Lin Ruoxi said, looking Jiang Yuan in the eyes.
Lin Ruoxi didn’t know if her theory was correct. She realized she and Jiang Yuan were the only ones in the equipment room.
Just as Jiang Yuan turned around, Lin Ruoxi gathered her courage and asked, "Jiang Yuan, do you like Xue Rui?"
At these words, Jiang Yuan instantly froze in place.
"Wh-what do you mean?" Jiang Yuan’s face immediately flushed red. ’I haven’t even figured it out myself, yet Lin Ruoxi is asking me first?’
"I’m sorry, I just had a feeling, so I thought I’d ask," Lin Ruoxi said softly. It was only a guess on her part.
Jiang Yuan’s heart was pounding. ’Lin Ruoxi is Xue Rui’s girlfriend. Is she here to confront me?’
"Who would ever fall for him?" Jiang Yuan bit out.
Lin Ruoxi said softly, "Then could you turn around and say it?"
She felt that Jiang Yuan’s body language didn’t match her words and wanted to get a clearer read from her expression.
Jiang Yuan bit down hard on her lip. ’I don’t know, I really don’t! But something is very wrong with me right now.’
Jiang Yuan wasn’t sure herself, but Lin Ruoxi’s pressing question was forcing her to look inward.
She sighed. "I’ve never been in a relationship... I... I don’t know. Maybe..."
"I know it’s wrong."
"Please don’t tell him. I’ll sort myself out. It won’t affect our work or studies going forward."
Jiang Yuan put the volleyball back in its place. When she turned around again, Lin Ruoxi had vanished...
Lin Ruoxi skipped cheerfully over to the car and pulled open the driver’s side door.
Lin Ruoxi wasn’t bothered by Jiang Yuan liking Xue Rui. In her eyes, Xue Rui was perfect; it was only normal for other girls to like him.
But she wasn’t worried in the slightest. Just as the many boys who liked her didn’t affect her life, this wouldn’t affect her and Xue Rui’s life together.
"What took you so long to return one ball?" Xue Rui asked.
"Mm, Jiang Yuan just said she likes you," Lin Ruoxi said matter-of-factly.
Although Jiang Yuan had said "maybe," Lin Ruoxi had been through this herself and knew that it definitely meant she liked him.
Xue Rui, however, could not remain calm after hearing this news. He was now fidgeting restlessly...
It wasn’t that girls hadn’t confessed their feelings to him before; there had been quite a few in high school, in fact.
After all, he was well aware of what kind of person he used to be...
Skipping class to go to internet cafes, smoking, playing cards...
