Chapter 493 - 337: A Miraculous Doctor

The schedule for the first day of school was packed. Gym class was right after Advanced Math.

Freshman gym was organized by class. As soon as he arrived, the teacher explained the plan for the whole semester, as well as the contents of the final exam.

The test was incredibly simple: all you had to do was bump a volleyball 50 times in a row...

"I’m heading out. Monitors, remember to return the balls after practice." After giving his instructions, the gym teacher strode off the athletic field.

’Looks like gym teachers have it easy no matter where you go,’ Xue Rui mused.

"Class monitor, I need a volleyball," Du Miaomiao called out.

"You got it."

Xue Rui and Jiang Yuan answered in near-perfect unison. They glanced at each other, and Jiang Yuan silently turned her head away.

"Tch. So you’ve decided to start doing your job during gym class?" Jiang Yuan grumbled, displeased.

During the last few classes, Xue Rui had done absolutely nothing. The teachers seemed a little confused, but they never pressed the issue, which really annoyed her.

That meant she was stuck doing all the work while Xue Rui was constantly attached at the hip with Lin Ruoxi. She’d even seen them secretly kissing in the computer lab.

"Something this minor doesn’t require my personal attention. Xixi, catch!" Xue Rui bent down, picked up a volleyball, and tossed it.

"Jiang Yuan, go grab a few more from the back. When you’re done, move this cart a little farther away so nobody runs into it," Xue Rui instructed.

"I’m busy. My brother’s here to see me," Jiang Yuan said irritably.

Zhao Ru sensed some friction between the two of them. She grabbed Jiang Yuan’s arm. "Yuanyuan, I can go. You were heading to the back of the field anyway, right? Just show me where the equipment room is."

Lin Ruoxi clasped her hands together, keeping her arms perfectly straight as she bumped the volleyball from Xue Rui high into the air.

Xue Rui watched from the side, smiling. After a while, however, he noticed a lot of unblinking stares directed their way.

The girl was having a great time playing, but the problem was, others were having an even better time watching. With every bump, the bouncing of her chest became more pronounced, and many of the boys were staring, completely transfixed...

"Xixi, if you keep this up, some people are going to fail their exam," Xue Rui joked as he snatched the volleyball from her.

Lin Ruoxi meekly lowered her head. She didn’t know what she’d done wrong this time. ’Xue Rui confiscated my toy...’

’But if Xue Rui wants to take it, he can have it.’ She obediently followed behind him.

"Let’s go play behind the bleachers. It’s less crowded there." Worried she might be disappointed, Xue Rui decided to play with her for a bit before skipping the rest of the class to find Gu Muxue.

"Okay!" Lin Ruoxi nodded emphatically, taking Xue Rui’s hand as they walked toward the back exit of the athletic field.

Lin Ruoxi discovered that the space by the back exit had been taken over by a group playing badminton.

"This won’t work. Let’s go to the equipment room," Xue Rui said, pulling Lin Ruoxi along.

Lin Ruoxi’s phone buzzed. She discreetly took it out to see a message from Gu Muxue.

*I’m on my way. The doctor said we can move the appointment up.*

Lin Ruoxi quickly replied: *So, are you going to meet him?*

*Nope.*

When Lin Ruoxi saw Gu Muxue’s message, she knew she couldn’t delay any longer. She had to get Xue Rui to skip class and go to the doctor.

’Even though I don’t know what’s wrong with Xue Rui, there’s no way Gu Muxue would ever try to hurt him, right?’

"Let’s play at home later. You should wash your hands first," Lin Ruoxi said, pulling a pack of tissues from her pocket and handing it to Xue Rui.

Xue Rui paused. ’Just a moment ago, Lin Ruoxi had clearly been so eager to play. Why did she suddenly not want to anymore?’

’Gu Muxue must have sent her a message.’ He nodded. "Alright."

Lately, Lin Ruoxi had been acting so secretive. Her chat history with Gu Muxue was always cleared, so he couldn’t see it even if he wanted to.

Xue Rui couldn’t tell if Lin Ruoxi was starting to think for herself or just following Gu Muxue’s instructions.

Lin Ruoxi walked to the equipment room, holding the volleyball. From outside the door, she saw a man and a woman hiding in a corner. ’They look like a young couple.’

Lin Ruoxi swallowed nervously. ’Xue Rui told me that when you see something like this, you shouldn’t go in and interrupt. Avert your eyes...’

She stood by the window in a daze, waiting, and overheard the two people inside talking.

"Jiang Lecheng, are you nuts? Did you really need to hide in here just to give me a few boxes of strawberries?" Jiang Yuan demanded, crossing her arms in clear displeasure at the man before her.

"Hey, sis, college is prime dating time. I can’t have people thinking I’m your boyfriend," Jiang Lecheng explained.

"Like I need you to worry about that?" Jiang Yuan said through gritted teeth. Her brother always sounded like he was worried she’d never get married.

Lin Ruoxi listened to their conversation and started mentally comparing Jiang Yuan to the other girls she knew.

’Jiang Yuan is acting completely different from her usual, friendly self. Is it because she’s with her brother?’

’Xue Yao is kind of like that with Xue Rui, too...’

’Xue Rui once said that you don’t need to hide or put on an act in front of your family, because they’ll always be your family...’

’So, is this Jiang Yuan’s true personality?’

Lin Ruoxi felt like she had discovered Jiang Yuan’s secret...

’But... Jiang Yuan is just as cold to Xue Rui, and they’re just new classmates.’

"Anyway, why did you contact me last night?" Jiang Lecheng asked, concerned. His sister had sent him an address the previous night, telling him to hurry over.

But he’d had too much to drink with his friends yesterday and forgot to go. The next day, Jiang Yuan was ignoring him, so he had come to the school out of concern to check on her.
