Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 363 287: Can't Let Her Get Away
'Something like this couldn't be kept under wraps once it was reported. The department secretary would probably come looking for the girl for a chat, so it was better to just hand over the documents openly.'
The two women stared blankly for a moment before taking the documents from Xue Rui in a daze.
The female teacher gasped and shot to her feet. She was in charge of new student information, so she was all too familiar with Lin Ruoxi's file. She had seen the photo from the college entrance exam—it was, without a doubt, the girl standing before her.
"Lin Ruoxi, please, come sit down! I'm a teacher from the registrar's office," the woman said excitedly, quickly giving up her own seat for Lin Ruoxi and even opening a bottle of water for her.
The other female teacher stared at Lin Ruoxi with curiosity, but the two women's actions were surprisingly in sync. Each took up a position on one side, effectively cornering the young girl.
Just then, one of them took out her phone and made a call.
"Hello? Secretary Li, you need to get over here, quick. Lin Ruoxi is here to register."
"Which Lin Ruoxi? ... Who else could it be?! Just get over here!"
The corner of Xue Rui's eye twitched. The two women's fervent gazes and cautious movements clearly screamed one thing: 'We can't let her run away!'
"You can leave if you have no other business here." The teacher from the registrar's office shot Xue Rui a disdainful look. She figured he was an upperclassman from some department, either trying to sell something or just trying to hit on the beautiful Lin Ruoxi.
Lin Ruoxi looked nervous. Afraid Xue Rui might actually leave, she was about to say something, but the teacher spoke again. "Lin Ruoxi, you're so beautiful."
'How on earth does God decide who gets intelligence and who gets looks?'
'How can someone with such a high IQ be this beautiful?'
'It's so unfair!'
"Ah, thank you," Lin Ruoxi said, shrinking back slightly. The teacher had pulled her over with surprising force and was now staring at her so intently that it made her very uncomfortable.
However, Xue Rui had just smiled at her and pointed to the ground, signaling that he wasn't going anywhere. This put her at ease, and she managed to exchange a few words with the teacher.
The surrounding students watched with curiosity. Why was this girl getting such special treatment? It was one thing to skip the line, but now she was sitting in a teacher's chair and being served water?
"She must be an upperclassman who's on good terms with the teachers," someone said to the students around him. He glanced at Lin Ruoxi with envy, thinking this must be what a normal teacher-student relationship was like. 'University really is different,' he thought.
Someone else shook their head. "I don't think that's it..."
The person who had just spoken looked again. Huh? Was a teacher actually fanning her?
'Is that what you call being on equal terms?'
His brain couldn't quite wrap around it.
...
"Excuse me, why are you still here? There's nothing for you to do," the female teacher said to Xue Rui, frowning.
After she spoke, it occurred to her that Lin Ruoxi might have come alone. Her tone softened as she turned to the girl. "Lin Ruoxi, are your parents here with you?"
Her colleague from the registrar's office let out a soft "tsk" and shot her a harsh glare.
The teacher who had just spoken instantly realized she'd hit a nerve. "My apologies," she said sheepishly.
Lin Ruoxi didn't understand why the teacher was apologizing. She pointed a finger at Xue Rui. "He... he's my guardian."
The teacher from the registrar's office's demeanor changed in an instant. Her face broke into a warm, amiable smile as she eagerly handed Xue Rui a bottle of mineral water. "Please, don't just stand there! Have a seat, have a seat! You can just call me Teacher Wang."
"With a score like Lin Ruoxi's, she'll receive a great deal of preferential treatment at our university. You can rest assured on that point..."
'Lin Ruoxi is an orphan, so how could she have a parent or guardian here?'
'In any case, even if I don't know who Xue Rui is to Lin Ruoxi, I know what I'm supposed to say right now.'
After taking a sip of water, Xue Rui spoke slowly. "Teacher Wang, you're from the Sichuan and Chongqing Region, aren't you?"
"Oh? What gave it away?" Teacher Wang neither confirmed nor denied it.
Xue Rui joked, "Face-changing is a famous Sichuan opera specialty."
Teacher Wang chuckled, at a loss for words. She understood he was poking fun at her for being two-faced, but she didn't seem to mind. She simply continued, "I'll have someone handle Lin Ruoxi's enrollment procedures for her. The department will waive her tuition, and she'll be a shoo-in for scholarships later on..."
Xue Rui wasn't in the mood to listen to the list of benefits. 'Even Qingbei was willing to offer all this, so of course this university would too.'
He handed over his own document pouch and an envelope filled with cash. "Teacher Wang, I'll have to trouble you to process my enrollment as well. You don't need to waive my tuition."
