Chapter 352 - 284: You’re Breaking the Law

Xue Rui followed behind Gu Muxue. ’This girl doesn’t care about the money,’ he thought. ’She just wants the status of being my creditor. A creditor plus a girlfriend means she can put on some airs in front of me every now and then.’

Xue Rui played along, bowing and scraping as he followed. "I don’t have any money. If that’s not enough, how about I offer myself to pay off the debt?"

Qian Huabiao’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. He knew Gu Muxue was a rich girl, but he never expected Xue Rui to owe her so much money and still have the nerve to say he’d "offer himself" to pay it back.

’Fucking trying to have it both ways.’

The crazy part was, Gu Muxue didn’t even object. Without looking back, she just gave a little wave of her hand, telling Xue Rui to hurry up.

"Damn, that’s a good move. Borrowing money from a girl to build a connection." Someone thought they’d figured out Xue Rui’s game.

Qian Huabiao felt a jolt of realization. ’How did I not think of that?’

When they returned to the registration area to find Yang Xing, Xue Rui saw that he’d taken off his jacket from the heat and was resting in a shady spot with his sleeves rolled up.

Qian Huabiao smoothly went up to greet him. "Uncle, I can help Gu Muxue with her luggage. It must be inconvenient for you in that suit."

Xue Rui thought, ’This kid’s pretty sharp, knows how to come up with an excuse.’

But now, his motive was obvious. Qian Huabiao had definitely followed them all this way because he wanted to get into the girls’ dorm.

Yang Xing nodded and handed over the large suitcase. "Thanks, son."

In truth, he hadn’t planned on carrying it himself anyway. With so much free labor around the university, why should he be the one to suffer?

’This is unbelievable,’ Xue Rui thought. ’We couldn’t use a simp from Jiao University, but we ended up with a mule from another school instead.’

Gu Muxue felt a little bad. "Thank you. We’ll buy you a milk tea later."

Just then, Xue Rui happened to take a call. He waved to a delivery driver in the distance and received a large bag full of milk tea.

"No need to wait, how about right now?" Xue Rui said with a smile, shaking the bag in his hand. It held at least eight cups of milk tea.

Gu Muxue was slightly surprised. "When did you buy these?"

"While we were in line. I timed it just right. They’re for you to share with your new roommates." As Xue Rui spoke, he pointed to a small case Gu Muxue was carrying, which also contained some gifts.

He explained in a low voice, "When you don’t know people well, it’s best to give things that can be consumed, like food and drinks. That kind of give-and-take makes it easier to get close."

Gu Muxue nodded seriously. She really didn’t have much experience in this area. She and her cousins usually just exchanged gifts, and even when they went out to eat, there was always someone trailing behind to take care of the bill...

"It’s about dinnertime now. If you give them milk tea, it’ll buy some time before they go eat. By the time you’re settled in, you can all go to dinner together," Xue Rui explained his plan.

"Th... Let’s go," Gu Muxue said quietly.

She didn’t know what was wrong with her. Ever since she and Xue Rui made their relationship official, she found it hard to say those two words, "thank you."

Xue Rui kept saying "we" and "us," and she honestly didn’t know how to respond. She hated the feeling of having her life arranged by Old Gu;

but Xue Rui was different. He was assertive about the little things, but when it came to big decisions, he always respected her choice.

The group walked to the assigned dorm building. Staring at the shabby-looking building, Gu Muxue’s mood soured.

"Having AC nowadays is pretty good. That alone beats, like, eighty percent of other schools," Xue Rui said, pointing to an outdoor AC unit.

"Let’s head up." Qian Huabiao took a deep breath, heaved the large suitcase onto his shoulder, and couldn’t help but smile. He had just glanced at the slip of paper in Gu Muxue’s hand—she was on the same floor as his ex-girlfriend.

Xue Rui noticed that as the kid passed the dorm supervisor’s desk, he furtively ducked his head. ’I bet he just got kicked out, didn’t he?’

The inside of the building was just as Xue Rui had expected: it matched the exterior perfectly. This made Gu Muxue’s face fall.

"Muxue, I’ll come pick you up tonight. If it’s too much, you don’t have to stay in the dorm," Yang Xing said.

Gu Muxue took a deep breath. "Uncle Yang, I’ll be fine."

Xue Rui wasn’t surprised. That was just her personality. Once she said something or made up her mind, she’d grit her teeth and see it through to the end.

When they reached the stairwell landing, Qian Huabiao set the suitcase down steadily. "I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll be going now."

He and Xue Rui had exchanged contact info while chatting earlier, so it wasn’t a big deal to part ways now.

"Senior, take a drink with you before you go." Gu Muxue pulled a milk tea from the case and a pack of tissues from her bag.

Qian Huabiao was hot and thirsty, but he resisted the temptation. He had to play the victim!

He decided to use Xue Rui’s move and ask his ex-girlfriend to borrow some money. That way, a financial tie would count as a connection, and he’d have a better chance of winning her back later.

’They were together for two years. She wouldn’t just leave him high and dry, right?’

Yes, that’s what he was thinking.

"Alright. If you’re free later, let’s grab a meal together," Xue Rui said.

He had a pretty good idea of what was going on. The kid was definitely off to find some girl. Who knows, maybe by bringing this guy into the girls’ dorm today, he was helping rid the world of one more scumbag.

After saying goodbye to Qian Huabiao, the group followed the room numbers on the doors until they reached Room 422. The door was closed, but they could faintly hear the chattering voices of several girls inside.

"Shufen, let’s go down and eat, okay? I haven’t even been to the cafeteria yet."

"It’s too hot. Let me rest for a bit."

"There’s still one person in our room who hasn’t shown up. We can see the name on her bed tag. Has anyone found her QQ number in the main group chat?"
