Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 2644: Nine Gates Admiral
"Oh?"
Hearing this, Xuexue reached out and lifted the curtain of the sedan chair to look outside. Sure enough, the gate not far ahead was a boiling crowd of noise; she had no idea what was happening.
Zi Xia said, "Young Lady, this maid will go find out."
Xuexue nodded. "Mm, that’s fine."
Zi Xia stepped down from the sedan and, walking closer to the city gate, saw that the Weirdo was actually tangled up in a brawl with the Government Soldiers.
She didn’t know what had happened, so she glanced around. A few bold villagers were hiding around the gate, craning their necks to watch the commotion. Zi Xia went over to them to ask what was going on and learned the cause of it all—turns out it was a fight provoked by the soldiers looking down on people with dog eyes.
Zi Xia then reported the news she’d gathered to Xuexue.
"It’s him? In broad daylight—what is he doing entering the city?" Hearing it was the Weirdo, Xuexue was a bit surprised. In the past, he only came into the city at night, deliberately avoiding the soldiers. She had no idea why he was entering so openly today.
Zi Xia said, "Looking at that senior, he seems to be enjoying himself. Young Lady, you really don’t need to worry."
Xuexue said, "Come on, let’s go take a look."
Zi Xia answered, "Yes."
"Princess Consort of War Prince has arrived!"
Before Xuexue could announce herself, a Government Soldier recognized her sedan chair and loudly reported her arrival.
When the City Gate Official heard that the Princess Consort of War Prince had come, the ferocity on his face vanished. He replaced it with a smile, hunched his back, and hurried forward with nods and bows. "This official greets the Princess Consort."
"Mm. The city gate tower is so noisy and lively—what exactly is going on?" Xuexue’s delicate brows were tightly furrowed as she asked coldly.
The City Gate Official replied without flushing or panting, "Reporting to the Princess Consort, this official discovered a Wei Country spy and is currently doing his utmost to apprehend him."
"A Wei Country spy?"
"Yes."
"You’ve worked hard, City Gate Official."
"It is as it should be. It is my duty. This official has always kept the Prince’s teachings in mind: the city gate is an important place, and at this critical time, we must not let a Wei Country spy seize any opportunity."
Looking at his righteous expression, anyone who didn’t know better would think he was truly dutifully guarding the city gate tower.
The other side showed no remorse and was even abusing public authority for private ends, pinning the crime of being a spy onto the Weirdo. Xuexue also wanted the Weirdo to give them a bit of a lesson, let them know that there is always a higher sky and stronger people; some things you can eat recklessly, but words you cannot speak recklessly.
Xuexue said lightly, "Your men don’t seem to be a match for him."
The City Gate Official lowered his head and secretly glanced at Xuexue, then said cautiously, "Princess Consort, the other party’s martial skills are highly advanced. We are not his match. This minister boldly begs: could the War Prince’s Mansion extend a helping hand and cooperate with this official to capture the spy?"
"Just now, from far away, this Princess Consort heard the City Gate Official loudly cursing that the other party was a cripple. So what now—City Gate Official, you can’t even beat a disabled man?" Xuexue’s tone was full of mockery.
The City Gate Official’s face went green then white; he had never imagined that the curses he’d shouted to vent his anger just now would be heard by the Princess Consort.
"That... that...!"
At this awkward moment, they heard someone in the distance loudly shout, "Nine Gates Admiral has arrived!"
When the City Gate Official heard this, his whole body shuddered. The Nine Gates Admiral was his superior, the one who could decide his life or death, far more terrifying in his eyes than the Princess Consort of War Prince.
Dozens of Government Soldiers were escorting an official sedan chair, slowly making their way over.
Before the sedan had even fully stopped, the City Gate Official immediately knelt respectfully on the ground and shouted, "This minister greets the Nine Gates Admiral."
After a short while, a middle-aged man in an official robe stepped down from the sedan. He was pot-bellied, with a very fat figure, swaying with every step he took, radiating official authority.
