Rebirth In A Global Apocalypse: I Awakened The Hidden Class 'Rich Man'
Chapter 65: The Worst Of The Storm Has Passed
"WOAW!.... This place is fancy!"
Tristan intoned as the all went into the living space of the mansion that was at least triple the size of the penthouse apartment living room.
They were all relaxed now, as Harvey had informed everyone that the threat had been neutralized and two of the assailants were running off. They still had to get rid of the bodies, but that could wait until tomorrow.
"Do you think they would return and cause problems.... I mean, we did kill four of them." Hazel said in thought.
"As if they would dare!. With Mr Harvey’s sniping skills and that beautiful rifle, they will think long and hard before trying to cause problems..."
"Considering how far and remote this place is..... I don’t think it would be even worth it for those groups of thugs to make the journey all to just come and die." Sage remarked from a large, fancy sofa.
"But... being so remote is also a problem, right? Where do we find mutants to hunt in order to get provisions?" Kite said from where she was seated.
It was a valid question that, strangely, no one else was thinking about. One or two mutants would occasionally venture this way, but seeing their numbers, it wouldn’t be long before they all began to starve to death up in this mansion.....
And while other awakeners are growing and improving their stats, they would all just be secluded here, withering away, seeing as the closest populated area was so far off. Unless a mutant horde passed by; she couldn’t fathom how this was a reasonable idea.
She had joined the group with the assurance she gained seeing them fight, which was certainly the most geared-up group she had ever heard about. Every single one of them was wearing origin items; it was ridiculous. And what was with those rifles?.
Kite was excited that with this group they could safely hunt the mutants and survive fine. And since she’s not really a fan of confronting those mutants, she could prove her worth in other ways. But no matter how she looks at it, this mansion was very safe; it was also a death sentence.
However, looking at the reaction to her statement, Kite was even more baffled—
"Why are you guys smiling like that?" She asked Nick, whom together with Sage and Hazel were acting as if her concerns were nothing.
"Look, you are new here... but what you need to know is we don’t need to particularly hunt mutants to get crystals," Sage responded cryptically.
"Uh?..... What does that even mean? Wait.... Are you survivor hunters?!" She asked in shock, visibly paling at the realization, and she jumped backwards in her seat.
"Relax, Kite. That’s not what we meant...but you’ll soon see." Hazel said with a soft smile on her face as she stood to go locate her own bedroom, Tessa following along happily to catch up with her friend.
If Kite was being honest, she didn’t wholeheartedly believe her moment of doubt that these people were survivor hunters, but she also wondered what they meant. Impatiently trying to solve the mystery as she grilled Nick and Sage for answers. Tristan was a newcomer just like her, so he wouldn’t know better.
"Right, Haze... where’s Damon now?"
Inside a massive bedroom, fancy and beautifully furnished, Tessa stepped out of the shower with a towel tied around her chest as she asked her roommate with obvious excitement on her blushing face.
Hazel, who had changed into clean nightwear, with her bronze ring still on her finger, had a complicated look on her face on hearing her friend’s question. After a moment’s pause, she smiled and said to her....
"You probably shouldn’t disturb him much... he requires a lot of sleep. And we haven’t really been in a position for him to get proper rest for hours now."
"Really?. He does?. How much does he sleep?. Tell me!" Tessa intoned as she jumped into the massive mattress, asking Hazel excitedly.
Hazel could feel her excitement; after all, she’s been a fangirl long before she even met Damon. And Damon’s in-person appearance was even more exaggerated than online. She understood her friend’s interest in him, but she wondered why it disturbed her so.
"Hmm... science you are asking. I think the longest he can stay awake without needing to sleep is probably close to three hours. After that, he’s usually half asleep and half awake until he hits the hay...."
"He also sleeps incredibly long. I have seen him sleep for nearly two days at a stretch.... its seriously impressive. I was scared something had happened the first time, but Mildred assured me he was fine."
"I know it has something to do with his innate constitution, so it can’t be helped. Though, it’s really cute seeing how much he tries to stay awake when he sees I am talking seriously to him."
Hazel went on describing Damon’s personality to Tessa as Tessa listened with rapt interest and a wide smile, but she soon noticed the softness with which her friend made these descriptions, as well as the soft smile forming on her own face, as her expression slowly dimmed into a small smile on her lips.
"I see. You two must have gotten really close, then?"
"Hah... I guess that’s true."
"I see... then I have a lot of catching up to do. I should also get to know him well too." Tessa intoned as she turned into her sheets. Somehow the atmosphere in the room had gotten awkward from its earlier excitement, but she still said....
"Hey, Prez..... I didn’t get to say this earlier. Thanks for saving me."
Hazel smiled softly as she too got into the mattress, responding...
"You’re very welcome, Tess."
Like so, the two young ladies folded into the mattress, their fronts facing opposite sides, but for some reason, neither of them could sleep; the reason was both obvious and complicated, as discovery shared, but neither could admit. It was awkward.....
But at least they were safe. The worst of the storm had passed.
