Gaius was getting confidence from his new stats, and when the electric bat is added to the equation, he should be able to safely hunt the wandering mutants in this office building as long as he’s quiet and draws no attention from the outside.

Gaius grabbed the baton by the wall; after practicing swinging it around for a while, he had come to understand that it deals electric charge to whatever surface it comes into contact with, but as long as one holds the hilt of the baton in their hand, it does not cause harm to the wielder.

Cracking open the door to the supplies closet, already in the distance; the reception all; a female mutant dressed in office attire wandered around the reception desk.

"I will make you my first target."

Muttering these words, Gaius opened the door fully and, holding onto his baton, he picked up one of the bottled cleaning solutions from the shelf and tossed it straight at the mutant, instantly grabbing its attention as it sprinted towards Gaius.

Rrrrrrr!!

There was a discovery made about the nature of mutants, as well as from Gaius’s personal experience. Mutants can apparently sense the presence of humans depending on how close they are.

If a human is a far enough distance away; unless they make a loud noise that drew their attention since they are equally sensitive to noises; they would be safe. But if a human is in too close a proximity to a mutant, whether they make a sound or not, the mutant hones in on their location like a signal beacon.

It was still a little strange since, apparently, mutants are more sensitive to some survivors than others. Still, it was based on this premise that Gaius was able to safely hide himself for so long; his plan also involves drawing the mutants to himself one after the other, rather than getting too close to where they might gather. Mutants outside the building should not be a problem at the moment, unless he makes too much noise or gets too close to the entrance; then they might cause a stampede that would break through the revolving door even if they can’t get through, since Gaius had gone through the effort of engaging the inside lock on the night he ran into this building after his explosion cleared the area.

Speaking of explosion. Since he had lost all his clothes when he used his skill, Gaius had to peel the clothes off a corpse he found in the building; it was one of the less desirable things he had to do, even if it was necessary. Since the person was an obese fella, the suit Gaius currently had on was very much oversized.

As the mutant charged at Gaius, he centered himself, calming his nerves. No matter how many times he’d seen these creatures who were once human, it was a jarring sight. And having one charge straight at you was a different kind of horror entirely.

In a matter of seconds, these female mutants with black, hollowed, inky eyes and a gaping mouth with jutting sharp fangs, dripping with that thick, murky substance, ashen and extended claws, had closed the distance between them, running in an awkward but speedy pattern.

"Here it comes."

Gaius braced himself, as the creatures claws tore through the air straight for his neck.

Fear gripped Gaius, causing him to stumble backwards, just in time to avoid the claws by an inch; he ducked low on instinct, causing the mutant to fall to meet him, but a humming baton met the creatures from under as Gaius sharply extending his arm upward in a trembling yell—

"Die, you beast!."

SPLOOSH

Rrrrr!

The baton had met the mutant’s head, but instead of reaching the skull, it was stuck under its jaw.

"Shit!"

Gaius attempted to hastily pull out the baton, but he stopped as he saw the mutant trembling from ontop of him; vividly gyrating fro a few more seconds before going completely still; wafts of smoke rising from its head, and the strong smell fo burning, mixed with the creatures’s foul stench.

"Ah....so that’s how this thing works." Gaius mumbled in relief; his heart almost beating though his chest as her remained on the ground with the mutant handing by his baton.

Gaius wasn’t completely convinced the mutant was dead until he saw his origin crystal count had increased by one. It was very lucky to get a crystal on his first kill; or was it just that all these stronger variants of mutants award crystals. Either way; he had survived his first direct confrontation with a mutant.

"That was scary....thrilling." he muttered as he pushed the dead mutant off him to the side; then careful, he dragged the body off to one corner of the passage.

"I wonder if there is anyone else in this building."

It was a four-storey office building, so the chance of other survivors hiding somewhere else was highly likely.

"Maybe i should think about forming a team. That was too dangerous." Gaius’s increased stats was what allowed him to easily push that baton through the mutant’s jaw; but he lacks a lot of experience fighting and that nearly caused him his life.

"I better get more practice in. This place is quite convenient."

Saying this, Gaius looked fo his next target; over on the stares by the north-side of the reception area, a mutant was slowly appearing, and Gaius would be using the same method. Throwing something at it, letting it catch a glance of him and them giving chase. It was the most optimal plan.

But as Gaius approached closer into the reception; his heart nearly dropped to his stomach as he altered his advance, standing stiff like a statue with instantaneous perspiration forming on his brow.

"What the fuck is that ?"

In front of the revolving entrance door; while other mutant’s aimlessly wandered about in the distance; one of them was simple standing there; and looking straight at him with horrifying wide smile.

"Fuck."
