Chapter 1595: Obviously, You Don’t Trust Me

  • Next Chapter

"Sis! Come downstairs for dinner."

Alice Turner was packing her luggage in her room when Lily Turner pushed the door open and came in. Seeing her older sister packing, Lily’s steps paused for a moment, but then she sped up and walked over to her.

"Sis! Why are you packing a suitcase? Are you going somewhere? Didn’t Jacob say you don’t have to go to the Derry Kingdom?" Lily looked at the suitcase that had already been packed and asked in confusion.

Alice pulled the suitcase to the side and set it down, then straightened up and looked at her little sister. "I thought it over and still feel it’s better if I personally send Jacob back. Only then can I feel at ease."

"How many days will you be gone?"

Lily reached out and grabbed Alice’s arm, gripping so hard that it felt like if she relaxed even a little, her sister would suddenly disappear.

Alice felt the pressure on her arm and lowered her head to look at the hand gripping her. The fingers were clenched so tightly the knuckles had turned white.

She sighed.

Five years ago, she left without a word, leaving a deep shadow in the hearts of those who cared about her.

She really had done them wrong.

She let out a barely audible sigh toward that hand, then lifted her gaze to its owner. "I’ll come back right after I send Jacob back to the Derry Kingdom. This time Thomas is going with me."

As soon as she finished speaking, she felt the grip on her arm noticeably loosen.

"Brother-in-law is going with you? Then I can relax." Hearing that Thomas Fisher would be accompanying Alice, Lily finally let out a long breath, and the nerves that had just tightened all at once relaxed.

Alice raised her hand and patted her younger sister’s shoulder, deliberately putting on an annoyed face. "Hey! What’s that supposed to mean? You’re not at ease when I go alone, but as soon as he goes with me you’re fine? You clearly don’t trust me."

She obviously knew that wasn’t what her sister meant, but she said it on purpose; she just didn’t want the mood to get too heavy.

"That’s not what I meant. I just think if Brother-in-law goes with you, you two can look out for each other, and that way I can feel a bit more at ease."

The "at ease" Lily spoke of had both the literal meaning and a hidden one—that her sister definitely would come back, and wouldn’t disappear out of nowhere like she had five years ago.

Alice knew perfectly well what her sister really meant, but she didn’t call her out on it, choosing to take it as the surface meaning.

"Since you’re at ease, let’s go downstairs and eat."

They’d be heading to the airport in an hour, and she needed to hurry up and get something to eat.

Alice took Lily’s hand and left the room. When they passed by Grace Young’s door, Alice knocked. "Grace! Come downstairs for dinner."

"Coming."

As soon as Grace’s voice fell, the closed door opened and she appeared at the doorway.

Seeing that Alice only called Grace down to eat and had no intention of calling Anthony, Lily was very puzzled. She tilted her head to look toward Anthony’s room. "Sis! Aren’t we calling Jacob to come down and eat too?"

"Jacob just went out. Don’t worry about him, he’ll head straight to the airport later." Alice didn’t want her sister to worry and didn’t say much more. Her sister still didn’t know what had happened yesterday at noon.

If her sister found out, she probably wouldn’t be able to get out the door.

Grace had a lot of questions about what Alice said, but because of her identity as an assistant, it wasn’t easy for her to ask directly. With all her doubts, she followed the two sisters downstairs.
