The city was quiet as the night started to draw closer. Kael took a deep breath and admired the scenery in front of him.

It was indeed beautiful, with lights covering the riverbank, illuminating it in a soft light.

However, they paled in comparison to the demon queen walking beside him. Her presence was dimming the surroundings, ensuring she was the only one who stood out. And somehow, that suited her so well that Kael did not even feel like commenting.

He simply looked at her as she tugged him behind her and laughed while running ahead.

"I never knew places like these existed. These lights are so pretty. Was there a place like this back home? I would have loved to visit it."

Lyra looked happy to see all these lights, but her eyes were filled with a longing to go back home.

No matter how beautiful this place was, it could not replace home for him or the others. Kael understood her feelings well, and her sad expression made him sigh.

Usually, he would have kept his distance from her even as he assured her. But this time, he decided that it would be worth it to try and become close to her.

After all, since he had decided to accept her confession, he wanted to give this relationship a real shot.

He wrapped his arms around Lyra’s middle, pulling her back to his chest, and pressed his chin on top of her head. She was the perfect height to allow him to do that.

"H-Hey, what are you—"

"I am just enjoying the nightscape of the city with you. Since we are together, there is no need for you to feel lonely or miss home. I am sure we will get to visit it one of these days."

Kael promised Lyra, and she looked shocked. Her body was tense, and her eyes looked as if she could not believe Kael was saying this.

But most importantly, the arms wrapped around her were the most dangerous for her heart. It made her have... expectations, and that was dangerous.

She knew she needed to call out to Kael, but she was enjoying this too much.

In the end, she decided to burrow herself deeper into Kael’s arms and enjoy the situation a little...

Just a little...

And that turned into thirty minutes before Kael decided that they should head somewhere else.

Lyra was a little disappointed when he pulled back, and her logical side reminded her that she had spent almost half an hour in Kael’s arms...

That did not feel like it was enough. She wanted more from him.

But now was not the time to be selfish. She knew she needed to hold back if she wanted to make it work.

Little did she know that her feelings were clear on her face, and Kael felt like laughing at her.

Honestly, she was too adorable like this. And she was also overflowing with feelings, making it impossible for him not to know how she felt about him.

...Kael could not help but smile as he watched her try to hide her emotions, and Lyra immediately noticed the change in his expression.

"Why are you smiling like that?"

"I am not smiling."

"I have eyes as well, so don’t try and fool me."

Lyra narrowed her eyes at him, clearly suspicious of his answer. Kael simply turned his head away, pretending to be interested in the lights along the riverbank instead of the demon queen standing beside him.

It was amusing to see how different she could be when she was not acting like the powerful demon queen everyone feared.

She had always been rather straightforward with her feelings, but now that Kael had accepted them, she seemed to be struggling with what she was supposed to do next.

Perhaps she had spent so much time chasing after him that she had never considered what would happen if he actually stopped running away.

"Where are we going now?"

Lyra asked after a while, following him as they walked away from the river.

"I want to show you something."

Kael answered, and Lyra immediately became curious.

"Something?"

"You will see."

He continued walking without explaining anything, and Lyra followed closely behind him. She had a feeling that Kael was planning something, but she did not want to ruin the surprise by asking too many questions.

They eventually reached a quiet street where most of the shops had already closed for the night. There were fewer people here, and the noise from the river had almost completely disappeared.

Lyra looked around with confusion before Kael stopped in front of a small shop.

"Here?"

"Here."

Kael nodded and pushed open the door.

Lyra followed him inside and immediately froze when she saw the shelves filled with various desserts and sweets.

Her eyes widened, and Kael could almost see the excitement building inside her.

"You brought me here for food?"

"You seemed to enjoy the food earlier, so I thought you might like this."

Kael replied, and Lyra stared at him for several seconds before suddenly grabbing his arm.

"You really are unfair."

She muttered, though there was a smile on her face.

"How am I unfair?"

"You keep doing things that make me like you even more."

Lyra answered honestly, leaving Kael speechless for a moment.

He had expected her to tease him, but she had said it so naturally that he did not know how to respond.

Eventually, Kael sighed and patted her head.

"Then I suppose I will have to take responsibility for that."

Lyra’s face immediately turned red.

And Kael realised that perhaps he had just made things even more dangerous for himself. But honestly, he did not mind. It finally felt like his life had returned to normal...or as normal as it could be.

He watched as Lyra stomped her feet before she went around and her eyes started looking at desserts. And soon, she was too immersed in eating sweets to feel embarrassed.
