Chapter 305: Ch 304: Good News and Bad News

"Did you truly have to get my hopes up like this? So, tell me what that way to get rid of this corruption is?"

Officer Tyson was in a considerably good mood, considering he did not even say anything about the fact that even the good news was not entirely good.

Still, the fact that there was good news at all meant that they had a way to resolve the situation.

"Well, since corruption is an amalgamation of different life forms that it has eaten, we can try and force those forms to take control and push it back. That way, it might become possible to lock it away—"

"But that is assuming those life forms it has consumed have any individuality left. What if they have already been absorbed by the corruption? Is that risk worth taking?"

Kael knew that Officer Tyson was just trying to cover all the bases, but he made a good point.

Luckily, Kael did have an answer to that question.

"We are actually lucky in this matter. I am certain that there are still life forms strong enough to retain their individuality inside that corruption. So our plan has a solid chance to work."

Kael assured Officer Tyson, who still looked worried.

"You say that, but I...can you get me proof? Is it someone you know? I cannot approve of such a dangerous mission without knowing more facts."

Officer Tyson looked stressed as he rubbed his brows to alleviate the incoming headache.

Unfortunately, it was of no use. The officer was thinking he had a say in this matter when the outcome had already been decided.

Of course, none of the three chose to tell him the truth, so the officer just sighed as soon as he noticed this.

"I have a feeling you are going to go through with this plan whether I stop you or not. Is there no way I can ask you to postpone it?"

Officer Tyson asked, and Kael shook his head.

"I am afraid not. This is something we need to see through, no matter what. Still, your help will be appreciated. Especially since the corruption will try to stop us once it realizes what we are planning to do."

Kael pointed out, and Officer Tyson pressed his face into his hands before letting out a muffled scream.

"Ahhhh, well, there goes my vacation and all the plans I had for a promotion. Still, just keep me and everyone alive through this. This is all I can ask for."

Officer Tyson was a smart person who understood his position well. He accurately guessed that there was nothing he could do to change the trio’s minds. Nor was there anyone else who could stop them.

After all, what they wielded was not fancy tricks but genuine magic.

Moreover, as much as he hated to believe it, the trio was his only source of getting rid of the corruption in this world.

He had to depend on them, whether he liked it or not.

...

Kael wanted to cast the spell as soon as possible, but unfortunately, the same limitations from before hindered him—the lack of mana.

Since Elena and Leon had opened a rift, the magic density in the air had risen temporarily, but they could not risk it happening again and again.

After all, mana did not strengthen only their side, but the goddess as well.

So, there was only one solution—store the excessive magic energy into something to be used later, and the medium they chose was flowers.

Kael had been a Grand Master, which meant that he had a vast skill set, and one of those skills was a mana-absorbing flower he had created.

It was a simple flower that could soak up to 100 times the amount of mana as an ordinary plant. So it made for an ideal storage device for people who could not afford anything fancy.

But the reason Kael chose it as the medium this time was because that was the only compatible thing he could find in this world that would be easy to replicate again and again.

These flowers had a shelf life of over two years, so they were even ideal for storage.

The first thing Kael did was plant the seeds and draw runes all over the walls. These runes would stop the mana from leaking out of the greenhouse, and the plants would absorb it quickly.

Kael knew that this was the surest way to grow these plants, even if it was not the fastest.

But since he needed Leon and Elena to open a rift to allow mana to flow into this space, he needed to be careful.

The mana began to fill the room quickly, and the runes activated. The plants began to shine as they absorbed the mana.

Soon, they would start blooming, and the flowers could be used for various things. But doing this filled Kael with a sense of nostalgia.

’How long has it been since I last grew these flowers? At one point, I realized I no longer needed them to gather mana from around me, and I stopped. I should have continued this research. Who knew where it would have gotten.’

But there had been a time when Kael only did research because he wanted money or it was requested of him. And since these flowers sold well, he was told not to do anything further.

In fact, he was often told to tone down their effects so that other things on the market would not lose value.

Those were good old days that he wanted to recall once more.

Perhaps there was still something he could learn from them.

Kael crouched beside the nearest flower and carefully examined its petals, watching the mana circulate through its stem. The process was slower than he remembered, but that was understandable given the poor conditions of this world.

Still, seeing the familiar process again made him smile.

"Maybe this time, I can finally finish what I started. It will be nice to leave more things behind this time."
