The Kinsek Village had no temple yet, so Aiden could not occupy a dedicated palace for his goddess. But that did not mean he was going to let her stay in a shabby house.

So for now, he chose the Kensen family’s house as his stronghold and allowed his goddess to rest. He also distributed the food and other stuff between the slaves and even gave them names.

They all looked beyond happy and grateful at his intervention, and they even became followers.

But there was just one problem...

[You have gained 18 new followers.]

Instead of following Goddess Apophis, they were choosing to follow him instead, which was not a bad thing. But it was annoying how often this was happening.

"You are frowning, my dear priest. Is something wrong?"

Goddess Apophis asked in a calm voice as she drank her water. She was in her human form for once, which Aiden appreciated. But he did not want to say what he was feeling to her.

His silence made the goddess narrow her eyes, and she crawled toward him before towering right over his lap.

Aiden looked up at his goddess’s magnificent new form.

Today, she had taken the form of a beautiful nymph with blue hair and divine power oozing out of her body. She was so beautiful that it felt hard to even look at her properly.

Aiden wanted to look away in order to respect her beauty. But his goddess did not allow this. Her clawed hand kept its hold on his face, and her eyes fluttered all over it, forcing Aiden to make eye contact with her.

"There is no need to hide anything from me, my Aiden. Whatever is bothering you must be resolved. Now, tell me."

Aiden felt owned by her as she towered over him. There was no way he could hide anything from her when she was asking him this directly.

"My Goddess, I am just annoyed by how these people don’t see your magnificence and keep choosing to follow me. All I want for them is to see that you are superior—"

A clawed finger pushed against Aiden’s lips before rubbing against them. It was making his face as well as another part of him heat up.

The smile on his goddess’s face told him that she was more than aware of what she was doing to him. But rather than her body, Aiden was more focused on her face and what she had to say to him.

"My dear Aiden, I have told you before—your power is my power. I can give you all my followers at the snap of my finger, and it won’t change anything. So stop being bothered by who is following whom. We are both the same. Do you understand?"

Aiden did understand this mentally. But that did not mean his heart understood the same way.

No, even if it did understand the same way, that did not mean he wanted to understand. He was being difficult for the sake of being difficult, but he did not see anything wrong with this.

Sigh

"My dear, one day you will understand and see our bond for what it is. We no longer have space for anyone else between us. Now, turn that frown around."

His goddess was shrewd and clutched both his cheeks in between her hands. Her expression was laughing at him, which made Aiden feel a little bitter.

But he quickly shook it off and let out a sigh.

"I will try my best to follow your instructions."

He told the goddess, who patted his face and then turned back into a snake. She quickly crawled up his clothes until she rested near his collar.

It happened too fast that Aiden had a hard time processing her absence.

"Goddess Apophis—"

"It seems we have company. I do not wish to reveal my presence, so I will be counting on you as always."

She told Aiden, and his eyes suddenly narrowed.

Company and at this late hour? It was clear what the intention of this was. Aiden was neither stupid nor naive enough to not understand what was happening.

knock

"Sir Priest, are you in there? I am sent by the River family to keep you company and have a talk with you on behalf of my master. May I come inside?"

The beautiful and husky voice asked, waiting for Aiden’s answer, and he sighed, knowing that he was being sent a honey trap.

Unfortunately, those villagers had no idea that Aiden had already given himself to another.

"Tsk, the audacity of these people! I am going to kill them all slowly and make sure to leave their bones so that I can call them back from the dead and do this all over again."

His goddess was irritated, and Aiden did not try to deter her from her murderous thoughts. After all, it was good for her to get it all out of her system.

For now, he had another person to deal with, and he decided to answer her from the inside.

"Sir Priest, may I—"

The door shook, almost as if someone was trying to force it open from the outside. But Goddess Apophis had closed it using magic. There was no way it was going to open unless Aiden or his goddess wanted it to.

"I am afraid you won’t be allowed entry in here tonight. My Goddess is rather possessive of me, and I also do not wish to meet anyone this late at night. Please return."

Aiden told the female, who went quiet. He could hear her soft but hurried breathing outside the room.

He waited a few seconds, and the female finally spoke again.

"Sir Priest, you are being too much! I am sure you will change your mind about me once you see me. Please give me a chance. I cannot just return like this. I also have my pride as well as my orders."

The female sounded a little scared now, and it was clear that she would be punished if she went back like this.

But honestly...it was not Aiden’s task to ensure her safety. She was not even his goddess’s believer, much less a follower.
