Chapter 635 - 633: Shout a Few Times, and You’ll Call Your Brother Out
Chapter 635: Chapter 633: Shout a Few Times, and You’ll Call Your Brother Out
Hearing this, Pip found it couldn’t argue. After all, they really did look a lot like winter gourds.
Thinking about it, Pip spoke up. "That’s true. My clan does look a lot like winter gourds."
At this point, Pip felt the need to emphasize a point.
It continued, "Ma’am, to be clear, we only *look* like winter gourds; we’re not the edible kind. We are the Shadowmist Clan, a type of Earth Spirit. The ancestor of our line was born from the coalescence of the world’s dark earth energy. That’s why we have no direct relation to winter gourds whatsoever." This was also why its clan was so skilled at farming—it was an innate talent.
In her human form, Vermilion was a beautiful young woman dressed in red. She had shed her former youthful immaturity and now, as an adult, possessed a tall, slender, and curvaceous figure that radiated a sense of power and explosive strength.
She moved with a light gait, her eyes and brow exuding a natural, radiant charm. Her slightly wavy, long hair was tied in a thick braid, beautifully adorned with a tail feather.
At that moment, Vermilion rested a slender finger against her cheek, her beautiful eyes sweeping over the winter gourds before her. Her gaze finally settled on Pip with a look that said, ’I get it.’
She gave a slight nod and said one thing.
"Alright, wintergourd."
Despite all of Pip’s rambling, Vermilion had only latched onto the key points: wintergourd, wintergourd, and more wintergourd.
"..." Pip fell silent.
It thought to itself.
’Forget it!’
’Wintergourd it is, then!’
’I’m already used to it.’
’The master thinks we’re winter gourds, too.’
Ruby lightly toyed with the thick braid that fell over her shoulder, looking at Pip with curiosity. "You’re new here. What’s your name?"
Hearing the question about its name,
Pip puffed out its chest and introduced itself proudly. "Ma’am, my name is Pip. It’s the name the master gave me."
Vermilion chuckled at that.
"Pip. That name is quite fitting."
It was exactly the kind of casual name the master’s family would choose. Vermilion thought back to her own name; if she hadn’t argued her case back then, her name probably wouldn’t have been much better than this one.
Pip looked a little embarrassed.
"I think it’s a great name, too," it said.
Vermilion said, "Let me introduce myself. I’m Vermilion, or Ruby. I’m the master’s contracted Spirit Beast. You can just call me Sister Ruby from now on. We’re all family here, no need to call me ’ma’am’."
’Vermilion? As in, the Vermilion, one of the legendary Four Cardinal Beasts?’ Even though it had its suspicions, Pip couldn’t help but gasp when she introduced herself.
"The Vermilion, one of the Four Cardinal Beasts?"
Ruby nodded with a smile. "That’s me. You’re a pretty knowledgeable little wintergourd."
Pip bowed respectfully. "Greetings, Senior Vermilion."
Ruby waved a dismissive hand. "Just call me Sister Ruby. You’re the master’s new Spirit Companion, so you’re one of us now."
This time, Pip didn’t object and called out directly, "Sister Ruby."
’This is the Vermilion, one of the Four Cardinal Beasts! Back in the day, a small clan of Earth Spirits like us would never have even had the chance to meet her.’
Vermilion nodded slightly.
"Mm. I’ll have your back from now on."
"Thank you, Sister Ruby."
Just as they were speaking,
a tiger’s roar echoed from the sky, powerful enough to shake the heavens and the earth. Pip’s clansmen, with their low Cultivation, instinctively huddled together under such immense pressure.
Seeing this, Vermilion tilted her head to the sky and yelled irritably, "Cub, what are you roaring about? Do you want me to skin you and turn your hide into a lantern?"
As soon as she finished speaking, a massive figure appeared in the sky. It was a winged White Tiger. The stripes on its body were mesmerizing, giving it a majestic air.
The White Tiger then spoke in a human voice.
"No, no... Sister Ruby, you know I can’t beat you! Let’s just leave my tiger hide on my body for now, please spare me." As he spoke, a white shadow flashed, and a man appeared beside Vermilion. He was well-built and strikingly handsome.
He was dressed in white, with long, silver-white hair tied up in a high ponytail. Just by standing there, he exuded an aura of overwhelming power.
Pip swallowed hard, its eyes fixed on the young man. Its mind went blank for a moment, unable to process what was happening. ’A winged tiger? A White Tiger... one of the Four Cardinal Beasts... the Divine Beast, the White Tiger.’
Taking a deep breath, Pip hurriedly bowed to the White Tiger.
"Greetings, Senior White Tiger."
’Senior?’
’Why does that make me sound so old?’
The White Tiger’s gaze shifted to Pip. He waved a hand and said, "Just call me Tiger. We’re all family here. Don’t call me ’senior,’ it makes me sound old. I’m still a single tiger, you know."
Pip quickly called out.
"Tiger."
’Sister Ruby and Tiger are powerful allies. I need to get on their good side. Even if I can’t ride their coattails, I absolutely can’t afford to offend them.’
’The master’s contracted Spirit Beasts are the Vermilion and the White Tiger, both at the Divine Beast Level. And then there’s me... so ordinary. I have to work harder from now on.’
’Wait... hold on.’
’The Vermilion and the White Tiger of the Four Cardinal Beasts are both here... so where are The Azure Dragon and the Black Tortoise? Don’t tell me they’re here too!’
Thinking of this, Pip couldn’t resist asking, "Sister Ruby, The Azure Dragon and the Black Tortoise of the Four Cardinal Beasts aren’t here as well, are they?"
Hearing Pip’s question, Vermilion glanced at it and replied, "No, they’re not here. We haven’t sensed The Azure Dragon’s aura. If I’m not mistaken, The Azure Dragon and the Black Tortoise are probably in another realm, with the master’s mother and her party."
The White Tiger nodded slightly.
"We’ll see them soon enough."
「Outside the Heaven-Reaching Ancient Jade.」
Aaron Sinclair reached out and took back the Ancient Jade, clutching it in his hand. At that same moment, the Ancient Jade glowed brightly, and his figure vanished, transported to another world.
「Meanwhile...」
Celeste Grant had spent many years in the Mortal Realm, raising her son with her husband. By the time she and Javier Sinclair returned to the Demonic Domain, however, only a little over a month had passed. This meant that even if that wisp of their son’s Primordial Spirit never awakened its memories, and they stayed with him until he grew old, only a few months would have elapsed in the Demonic Domain by the time they came back.
Though their trip to the Mortal Realm had lasted just over a month in Demonic Domain time, the domain itself had undergone a world-altering transformation. In fact, the change was so drastic that she almost thought she’d returned to the wrong place—to Nimbos instead.
And all of this was thanks to Elder Lawson and his group.
Elder Lawson and the others who had ascended from Nimbos felt restless. After joining the Demonic Domain, they had been allocated countless resources and a sizable territory. Having made no contribution since their arrival, they felt the resources were a burden they hadn’t earned.
