Chapter 612: Chapter 610: Aaron Sinclair’s Memories Awaken

’I’m going to die. I’m really going to die.’

"No... You can’t do this! Celeste Grant, you can’t do this!" Eve Warren fell apart at the thought of not getting any food. If she wasn’t even given a single steamed bun, how was she supposed to hold on until someone came to rescue her? She didn’t want to die. She didn’t want to die yet.

Celeste Grant spoke up. "I hope you can hold on for a good long while. Toodles~ Jocelyn Grant’s mother, don’t you think I’m actually a pretty nice person? Look, you came all this way to kill my son, and I didn’t even hold a grudge. I found you a job with room and board. I’m just too kind."

’Too kind?’

Hearing this, the disheveled Eve Warren clawed at her own head, looking utterly crazed. "AHHH... You, kind? How are you kind in any way?! You insidious, venomous woman! There’s no one in this world more vicious than you! You killed my daughter and destroyed my Cultivation! Why don’t you just die?! AHHH, WHY DON’T YOU JUST DIE?!"

Celeste Grant didn’t get angry at her words. She just smiled gently and said, "Jocelyn Grant’s mother, you’re getting too worked up. It’s easy to get high blood pressure that way. You might not know this, but old mortal women like you need to learn to let things go. Otherwise, you might just find your soul floating out of your body before you can take your next breath."

Outsiders couldn’t hear Celeste Grant’s conversation with her. To the other convicts in the quarry, it just looked like the old woman had gone mad, shouting at thin air.

Seeing this, someone couldn’t help but stop what they were doing and look over at her.

"Has this old woman lost her mind?"

"Making all that racket. Is she trying to get the overseer over here for a beating?"

Eve Warren stood rooted to the spot, dizzy and seeing stars from her frantic rage. Her face contorted, and she collapsed to the ground, convulsing. "Celeste... Grant... I’ll... kill... you..." Her face was twisted, and she could barely speak properly.

Watching this unfold, the invisible Celeste Grant took a step back. "Oh? I told you to calm down, but you wouldn’t listen. And look at you now. Your symptoms look like paralysis. Tsk, what’s to be done? If you’re paralyzed, who’s going to quarry stone? Without your contribution, progress at this quarry is going to slow down so much." She was a heartless capitalist now.

"You... you..."

The old woman lay there convulsing, her face twisted as blood and drool trickled from the corner of her mouth. Only her murky eyes remained fixed in the direction of Celeste Grant’s voice. Her body twitched uncontrollably, and with her lips cracked from prolonged thirst, she was a truly tragic sight.

"Help... help me."

Eve Warren lay there, unable to move, wanting to cry for help. But no one here cared if she lived or died. No one would save her. In that moment, she actually felt a pang of regret for provoking Celeste Grant. The woman was a lunatic—a lunatic with an extremely vindictive streak.

’Her eyes remained open, her mind drifting back to the days when she was respected by all. She thought of the men she had used, squeezed dry of their last bit of value, and then cast aside in disgust. I was wrong. I was the one who wronged them. I think I did truly love them once... right, what were their names again?’

’And my other children... now that I think about it, I haven’t seen them in over a hundred years. I want to picture each of their faces in my mind, but the images are all a blur. Is this... my retribution?’

’And my poor Jocelyn... I can’t avenge her anymore.’

Lying on the ground, still convulsing, Eve Warren stared blankly at the sky.

"You... you won’t die a good death."

The whites of her eyes rolled up, and she struggled to breathe. After spitting out those words, she failed to draw her next breath and died. The commotion soon attracted the quarry’s overseer—the same one who had been carrying the whip.

He strode over angrily.

"What is it now?"

"What’s all the noise about? Every last one of you looking to die? If we don’t meet this month’s quota from the higher-ups, I’ll kill you all!"

Yep, he was a beast of burden driven mad by his KPIs.

The young overseer walked over, his gaze sweeping across the ground. His expression didn’t change when he saw the old woman lying motionless on the dirt.

The overseer stepped forward and gave her a kick.

"Hey, old hag. You dead?"

"If you’re not dead, get up and work! Don’t even think about slacking off. This isn’t a place for napping."

Someone else walked over and said, "Boss, you think maybe... this old woman is already dead?

In a place like the quarry, not a day went by without someone dying. So, they felt nothing about one old woman’s death.

"Dead? How unlucky."

"Drag her away. Find a place to burn the body to prevent a plague."

"Yes, Overseer."

Soon, someone came and dragged the old woman’s body away. The other workers, shackled and toiling, merely glanced up for a moment before lowering their heads and continuing their work. It was as if this sort of thing was a common, unremarkable sight.

Still invisible, Celeste Grant stretched out her hand. A wisp of an ordinary soul body floated out. Unlike a Cultivator’s Primordial Spirit, a mortal’s soul body is very weak and is meant to be reincarnated after death.

’Let bygones be bygones once someone is dead? No, no. For a Cultivator, a grudge is only settled when the Divine Soul is completely annihilated. As long as even a sliver of a soul remains, there are endless possibilities.’

Celeste Grant snatched the wisp of soul body as it floated out. She clenched her fist, and in an instant, the frail soul body dissipated without even a sound. Its soul was scattered, with no chance of reincarnation ever again.

’Excellent.’

’This grudge is finally settled.’

She glanced up at the sky.

’Time to go home and make my son something delicious.’

With a wave of her hand, her figure vanished.

「Nine years passed in the blink of an eye in Elyndra.」 Her son had grown up. The seventeen-year-old youth was handsome, with a tall and slender build. This sliver of a Primordial Spirit had grown into the same son they remembered.

Celeste Grant’s and Javier Sinclair’s appearances wouldn’t change naturally, but this was Elyndra. It would be strange if they never seemed to age. So, the two of them had altered their looks slightly. Celeste made herself appear a bit more mature, while Javier Sinclair grew a mustache, giving him a certain "distinguished older man" vibe. With their Spells, they could look however they wanted.

In Celeste Grant’s courtyard,

she stared at the tall, slender man before her with an appreciative look. "Haha... Javier Sinclair, you look quite handsome like this. You’ve got that whole ’older man’ appeal."

He reached out, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pulled her tight. "Does my wife like this look?" he asked, lowering his head to rub his stubble against her. She placed a hand on his chin. "Get off... Your stubble is so scratchy."

Just as they were speaking, they both sensed an unusual aura. They met each other’s gaze and looked up at the sky. At that very moment, a massive rift suddenly tore open in the heavens. The fissure was pitch-black inside.
