Chapter 600: Chapter 598: There’s No Mistaking This Aura, It’s Really You

Aaron Sinclair stood his ground, tilting his head up to look at the eye in the sky. It was a horizontal eye, crimson and ferocious.

A single glance was enough to feel the countless souls wailing in agony within it. He had also clearly heard the voice from before—it wanted to absorb the energy of this world.

He didn’t know what energy this world possessed that was worth coveting, but if the entity succeeded, it would undoubtedly spell disaster.

The voice came again.

Everyone could hear it.

"It’s you... It really is you."

The eye stared intently at Aaron Sinclair, widening as if it had seen the impossible. Within its gaze, he could even detect a mixture of probing and fear.

"How is this possible? You obviously perished completely. You can’t be him. Who are you? That man’s Primordial Spirit was utterly destroyed a thousand years ago."

’So, who does this thing think I am?’

Aaron Sinclair raised an eyebrow, neither confirming nor denying. He simply said coolly, "Oh? And do you think I am him, or not?"

At his words, the voice fell silent. Uncertain, it could only glare at him, its crimson hue deepening. What looked like tears of blood began to stream from its corners, a terrifying sight.

The entity spoke.

"This aura... there’s no mistake. It really is you."

"Damn you... You’re not dead. You’re actually not dead."

The voice was utterly shaken.

"You treacherous bastard! You knew all along I had a backup plan, didn’t you? Fine, just fine. Truly worthy of the Cunmere Realm’s greatest expert. You play your cards very close to your chest. Even in death, you had a trick saved just for me. You planned everything from the very beginning, just waiting here in Elyndra for me to walk right into your trap."

"You’re a crafty son of a bitch."

Those words, "You’re a crafty son of a bitch," fell clearly on everyone’s ears, including Aaron Sinclair’s. The voice was laced with so much bitterness, indignant fury, and resentment.

Aaron Sinclair was bewildered.

’Crafty son of a bitch? Is it talking about me?’

’Where is the Cunmere Realm? And what’s this about being its "greatest expert"? It all sounds so bizarre, so fantastical. Aren’t I just a perfectly ordinary person?’

Aaron Sinclair was certain he was just an ordinary person. His home was here in Kelldorn. His father was the Warden of the North, and his mother, Celeste Grant, was The Lady Warden. The Emperor was his uncle, and the Empress his aunt. Given all that, there was only one possibility: the eye had almost certainly mistaken him for someone else.

’Come to think of it, why wasn’t he terrified by this horrifying thing in the sky? Any normal person would be. But he truly didn’t feel a shred of fear, just like that time he was being hunted. It didn’t make any sense. Could it be... that he had a past life? Surely I wasn’t some incredible figure in a past life, was I?’

He shook his head slightly, dismissing the thought.

Aaron Sinclair glanced up at the eye in the sky.

A power like this was beyond comprehension, not something mortals like them could ever hope to oppose. He could sense the dangerous energy emanating from the eye; the slightest misstep would mean disaster for this world.

A slight warmth spread through his palms.

He was trying to figure out how to handle the situation.

Narrowing his eyes, an idea came to him. Since the entity had mistaken him for this "so-and-so," why not use it to his advantage? He could tell from its tone that it was terrified of the person it thought he was.

He raised an eyebrow, his gaze turning serious as he met the eye’s stare. Suddenly, Aaron Sinclair let out a soft chuckle and said in a light, breezy tone, "You up there, calling people a ’crafty son of a bitch’ is very rude, you know. As for me planning all this... don’t give me so much credit. It was a pure coincidence. Has it occurred to you that I might be standing here with absolutely no idea you were coming?" And it was true. He really didn’t know, nor did he have any clue what this thing even was.

His voice was completely relaxed.

The more casual his tone, the more the entity felt it was being mocked, and the more it hesitated to act.

A furious voice boomed from the void.

"Coincidence? There’s no such thing as this many coincidences!"

Aaron Sinclair spread his hands in a helpless gesture.

"Heh, why does nobody ever believe me when I tell the truth?"

"Fine, have it your way. Now, what were you saying before? Something about absorbing this world’s energy?" Though his voice still held a youthful edge, his face was devoid of fear. Because of this, the eye, despite sensing that he was just an ordinary human at the moment, dared not treat him as one.

The entity seethed, and the bloody streaks across the sky burned an even deeper red.

"That’s right! Not only will I absorb this world’s energy, but I’ll also use its countless lives as a sacrifice! I was on the verge of rebuilding my body and recovering my Cultivation, of becoming a supreme god. And you! You ruined everything!"

Aaron Sinclair said, "If I told you I didn’t, would you believe me?"

"It was you! Are you still trying to deny it?"

"All those systems I poured my heart and soul into researching and creating... you destroyed them, didn’t you? That was my life’s work! So many of them, and you didn’t leave me a single one!"

"Everard, you deserve to die."

’Everard?’

’Oh, so he has a name.’

’And "Everard," at that. What an arrogant name.’

’But who is that? Well, whoever he is, it’s definitely not me.’

The voice was practically fuming with rage. No, the eye was literally fuming—letting off wisps of blood-red smoke.

"You’ve ruined all my plans!"

Aaron Sinclair fell silent.

’This is so unfair.’

’Everard was the one who did it, what does that have to do with me?’ Still, now wasn’t the time to argue. He could only continue to neither confirm nor deny. So far, the eye had only engaged in a war of words with him, without making any real moves.

’What does that mean? It means the entity is wary of me. It doesn’t dare to make a move.’

Realizing this, he spoke up. "You, eye. Let’s cut the crap. I’m standing right here. Do you really think I’m going to stand by and watch you absorb this world’s energy? Do you think you can get past me and turn these countless lives into so-called ’sacrifices’ to fuel your Cultivation?"

He spoke in a very light, almost casual tone.

The entity was struck speechless.

The eye widened, its glare so ferocious and irate it looked as if it wanted to swallow him whole.

"Everard, must you oppose me at every turn?"

"They’re just a bunch of mortals, as insignificant as ants! If they die, they die. What’s the big deal? Why protect them? What can they do for you? You might have been strong back in the Cunmere Realm, but you’ve already died once. Are you so sure you can still defeat me now?"

Aaron Sinclair looked at the eye and gave a scornful laugh.

"What do you think? Can I beat you or not?" ’Despite his calm expression, his heart was in his throat and his palms were slick with sweat. If he were actually this Everard, things would be fine. But the fact was, he wasn’t.’

’He was just an ordinary guy. How could he possibly win?’

’Oh, Celestial Bodhisattva, there’s no way I can win!’

’Mother, I’m betting everything today. If I lose, the whole family is going to end up in coffins. No, *everyone* is going to end up in coffins.’
