Chapter 392: The Visitor from the Fissure (Prologue)
"Blaziken, take the stage!"
"Grumpig, come on out!"
Kana took the initiative and said, "Grumpig, use Iron Tail!"
"Grumpig!"
Using its spring-like tail, Grumpig leaped high into the air and launched an Iron Tail attack at Blaziken.
"Blaziken, jump up and use Double Kick!"
When it came to jumping ability, Blaziken was definitely superior to Grumpig. With just a light leap, Blaziken soared higher than Grumpig. As the two Pokemon crossed paths—one ascending and one descending—Blaziken delivered two kicks at lightning speed, striking Grumpig in the chest and face, respectively.
Grumpig flew backward, somersaulted two and a half times, and landed. Kana’s score dropped significantly.
Kana looked at Grumpig with a nervous expression. "Grumpig!"
"Grumpig!"
Grumpig shook its head and stood back up, its eyes filled with rage.
It had just been kicked in the face!
It was furious!
"Blaziken, use Flame Vortex!"
Blaziken spat out a Flame Vortex, sweeping toward Grumpig.
"Grumpig, use Psychic!"
Just as the flames were about to hit its face, Grumpig activated Psychic, taking control of the flames while simultaneously lifting Blaziken into the air with Telekinesis.
The attack failed, and instead, Blaziken was controlled. May’s score continued to drop.
Seeing Blaziken in trouble, May’s brain raced. When her gaze landed on the ceiling, she remembered the tricks she had played during the first round of the review.
"Blaziken, use Flamethrower on the ceiling."
Fortunately, the arena’s ceiling was made of steel. The fire Blaziken spat out didn’t ignite or burn through the ceiling; instead, the flames spread out across it, making it seem as if a rain of fire was falling over the entire battle stage.
The wisps of falling fire inevitably landed on Grumpig. Grumpig was scorched by the flames, and in its pain, the Psychic effect was interrupted, allowing Blaziken to break free.
This time, it was Kana’s score that began to drop.
Kana glanced at the scoreboard and the time, thinking to herself, "No, if this continues, I’ll lose!"
"Grumpig, use your final Psyshock!"
"Blaziken, use Aura Sphere!"
Both sides launched their final attacks. The materialized Psychic energy and the pale white Aura Sphere collided. Before long, Grumpig’s attack was dispersed.
After all, there was a significant level gap between Grumpig and Blaziken. Grumpig was only at an early Gym level, while May’s Blaziken was at a quasi-Elite level of combat power.
Struck by the Aura Sphere, Grumpig lost the ability to battle.
Just like that, May won the Slateport Contest and obtained her second Ribbon.
After the contest ended, Ash’s group bade farewell to Kana the next day and boarded the sea train heading to Larousse City.
"According to the train’s schedule, we should arrive in Larousse City in about an hour," Brock said.
"Winona said last time that it gathers chefs from all over the world. This time, I’m going to eat my fill!" May said excitedly.
"Eating is fine, but May, you must not miss the Battle Tower."
During this time, Ash had also looked up information about the Larousse City Battle Tower.
It was indeed a branch of the Battle Frontier, though it had only been set up recently. Despite being in its early stages, the Trainers it attracted were quite formidable, some of whom were participants from the Ever Grande Conference coming for special training.
Overall, it was a good testing ground for May, and it was also listed by Ash as an experience farming area.
"Mm-hmm!" May nodded obediently.
Pop!
Suddenly, one of the Master Balls on Ash’s bracelet popped open automatically.
Deoxys appeared. Its gaze was fixed on the direction the train was traveling, and its face was filled with Telekinesis.
"Deoxys, you sensed its presence, right?"
Having watched the plot, Ash naturally knew what his Deoxys was confused about.
Deoxys nodded. "It... is in... a semi-dormant state. Its condition is not very good."
Ash frowned slightly. "It shouldn’t be life-threatening, right?"
"No, it’s just in a semi-dormant state. It’s difficult to accumulate enough energy to recover."
"If it’s just energy, then that’s fine. Larousse City has plenty of energy, and with us here, you can rest easy. By the way, can you sense any of your kind in that direction?"
Ash pointed to the north.
Four years ago in the Arctic Circle, many people saw Rayquaza and Deoxys battling.
Ash had seen the footage of that battle at Professor Oaks Laboratory, and he also knew that the Deoxys that had been knocked down hadn’t died; it had just been crippled and fallen into the water.
Of course, he hadn’t told the Pokémon League about this information. After all, Deoxys was a special Mythical Pokemon that could lure out Rayquaza, and its form-switching ability was almost unbeatable.
Deoxys looked in the direction Ash pointed. After sensing carefully for a few seconds, it shook its head, indicating it hadn’t found anything.
"Alright, then I’ll handle the affairs in Larousse City first. Just remember to keep an eye on that direction."
Ash wasn’t disappointed. In any case, the one in the polar region would eventually deliver itself to his doorstep; he just didn’t know who would be best to capture it.
Upon hearing this, Deoxys returned to its Master Ball, relieved, to continue sleeping and improving its strength.
May regained her senses and asked curiously, "Ash, was that one just now also a Legendary Pokemon?"
"Yes, his name is Deoxys. He is a Pokemon from space, a type of Mythical Pokemon," Ash explained.
"A Pokemon from space?!"
May was shocked.
No wonder she felt Deoxys looked strange; it looked a bit like E.T. from the movies...
She didn’t expect it to actually be a real E.T.
"Ash, what you and Deoxys were discussing just now, could it be that in Larousse City there is..."
Brock spoke up as well.
He remembered very clearly what Ash had summoned when he released Deoxys before.
That was a Rayquaza capable of independent Mega Evolution, with super fierce combat power!
He didn’t even dare to imagine what kind of damage would be caused if a Deoxys appeared in Larousse City, attracting a Rayquaza, and then the two fought within the city.
The most critical thing was that there seemed to be more than one wild Deoxys; there was another one in the north!
"Yes, four years ago, there was a fierce battle between Rayquaza and Deoxys in the Arctic Circle. And Dr. Lund in Larousse City was an eyewitness. They even brought back a Deoxys core from the battle site..."
Ash briefly described the information he knew. Of course, the plot he had watched in his past life didn’t have detailed descriptions, so he just used hypothetical scenarios to help them prepare themselves.
"So that means a Legendary Pokemon battle might happen in Larousse City next!" A flash of excitement appeared in May’s eyes.
"Rayquaza sensing Deoxys’s presence might indeed lead to its appearance. Regardless, it’s best to prepare for the worst. Of course, if you want to capture the wild Deoxys and Rayquaza, that’s no problem either. You all have Master Balls. If you capture them, I will work with Professor Oak and Professor Birch to help you seal the news."
Ash’s words made May very tempted, but thinking about the combat power of Legendary Pokemon, she felt it was a bit impossible. "Capturing Legendary Pokemon is very difficult, right?"
