Hearing the voice he had dreamed of for so many years, Darius’s entire body began trembling uncontrollably.
The others turned around the moment they heard it.
Helena looked over everyone, then recognised Julian at once.
"You’re Julian, aren’t you? You’ve grown so big."
Tears fell from Julian’s eyes, but he smiled as he looked at her.
"Mum. It’s me."
Maylene was completely at a loss, unsure how to greet her.
Helena stepped forward, pulled Maylene into her arms, and smiled gently as she stroked her head.
"My little Maylene. Let Mum see whether you’ve been eating properly and growing up well all these years."
Maylene’s tears poured down.
"Mum, I missed you so much."
Cynthia hesitated slightly, unsure what attitude she should use to greet her.
Should she greet her as Cynthia, Julian’s friend?
Or as Cassia...
Wait. Cassia was not Julian’s girlfriend either!
Caitlin watched Helena and Darius with great interest.
Over the past few days, she had heard plenty from Maylene about Darius’s many shameful deeds.
She wanted to see how Helena would discipline this fallen, dispirited man.
But Caitlin had not expected Maylene’s mother to be this beautiful.
In terms of appearance alone, Helena was even a little more beautiful than Julian before his Fairy charm had awakened. Especially her stunning cotton pink hair.
After all, Helena had only been twenty-eight when she passed away, right in the prime of her youth.
Darach was somewhat surprised. He had not expected the mist to actually give a body to someone who had passed away.
It allowed the dead to embrace their loved ones again.
He narrowed his eyes slightly.
He understood all too well just how deeply Darius loved his wife.
This environment created by the mist was too perfect. Because of that, it might actually be harmful to him.
Helena had appeared behind them, which meant she was someone who remained in the past.
On the road of life, one could stop briefly to remember the past.
But in the end, people still had to set sail again and face the unknown challenges ahead.
Maylene carefully hugged Helena, afraid that her monstrous strength would hurt her.
"Mum, I’m sorry. If it wasn’t for me..."
Helena gently interrupted her.
"It wasn’t your fault, Maylene. I was the one who decided to give birth to you."
"Don’t blame yourself. Eating well and growing up properly is the greatest happiness you could give me."
Maylene nodded hard.
"Mhm. I will. I’ve already set off to challenge the Kanto League!"
"I’ll try to bring a championship home!"
Helena smiled.
"I know our Maylene is the best."
Then Helena looked at Julian.
"Julian, come here and let Mum have a good look at you."
Julian immediately walked over.
"You’ve grown so big. You’re not that brooding little toddler anymore."
She then squeezed Julian’s arm and nodded in satisfaction.
"Not bad. You’re as strong as your father was when he was young. Now I can relax."
Darius finally finished preparing himself mentally. With a smile that looked like he was both crying and laughing, he turned around.
"Helena, I missed you so much."
Helena looked at Darius.
"Darius, you’ve grown older. Have you been well all these years?"
Darius stepped forward and grabbed Helena’s hand, his lips trembling nonstop.
"I’m sorry, Helena. All these years, I didn’t take good care of myself. I didn’t take good care of our two children. I didn’t take good care of the Pokémon either."
Helena shook her head gently and left the two children aside.
She hugged Darius around the waist and buried her face against his chest.
"In my heart, you are the best husband, the best father, and the best Trainer. Don’t run away from the pain anymore. We have two beautiful children who still need their father. You can definitely do it!"
That one sentence lit something inside Darius, as if he had returned to those beautiful years of his youth.
"I understand. From now on, I’ll eat properly, train properly, and take good care of the children."
Helena nodded in satisfaction.
"That’s the man I fell in love with."
Darius immediately let out a silly chuckle.
Caitlin curled her lip.
She actually did not scold him?
She let the him get away with it just by being gentle?
Helena let go of Darius, then moved towards Julian and cupped his cheek, giving him a loving gaze.
"My sweet boy, thank you for looking after your foolish father and sister all these years."
Julian shook his head.
"It wasn’t hard. Looking after those two idiots is quite easy."
Maylene waved her fist.
"You’re the big idiot! I’m very clever, okay!"
Julian shrugged.
What clever person went around saying they were clever?
Darius secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Julian had not exposed his old crimes.
Good son!
Seeing the siblings get along so harmoniously, Helena smiled happily.
Then she looked at Cynthia, and her eyes immediately lit up.
"Julian, aren’t you going to introduce this beautiful young lady to me?"
Julian scratched his hair.
"Cynthia, she..."
Cynthia smiled and spoke first.
"Hello, Miss. My name is Cynthia. I live in Celestic Town, and Julian and I are good friends."
Cynthia and Cassia.
That was a romantic little game between her and Julian.
Cynthia still did not want to expose it so quickly.
Beautiful things had to be savoured slowly.
Caitlin joined in the fun.
"That’s right. The two of them are very, very good friends!"
Helena smiled faintly, already understanding what kind of relationship Julian and Cynthia had.
Two young people enjoying the sweetness of a clumsy first love.
"In the future, I’ll have to trouble you to look after him. He was always a stubborn and dense boy. Julian, you also have to take good care of Cynthia."
Cynthia immediately nodded.
"Don’t worry. I will!"
"Maylene, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to watch you grow up."
Helena brushed away the tears on Maylene’s face.
"But you still grew into such a strong, wonderful girl."
"Mum is so proud of you."
Maylene’s tears fell again.
"Mum, I won’t let you down!"
Helena hugged Julian again, then whispered in his ear, "Julian, a girl as wonderful as Cynthia is someone you must not let go. If there’s a chance, take it and don’t hesitate."
"Don’t let someone else steal her away."
Julian smiled shyly.
"Don’t worry, Mum. I’ll work hard."
Julian glanced at Cynthia.
The tips of her ears turned faintly red as she smiled at Julian.
She said nothing, but somehow, it felt as if she had heard everything.
A gentle breeze passed by.
Helena turned and looked at the mist behind her.
"It’s almost time. I should return to my world. Darius, I hope you can look forward and keep moving forward."
"Don’t let me become a chain holding you back..."
Darius became emotional. He clenched his fist and shouted, "Helena, how could you ever be a chain holding me back? I—"
Under Helena’s gentle gaze, Darius lost.
He slowly released his fist, and a bright smile appeared on his face.
"I understand. I’ll continue fulfilling the promise we made when we were young!"
Helena blinked playfully.
"Then it’s settled. In the future, don’t use this kind of method to see me again."
"Carry my share of our dream with you and keep walking forward without wavering."
Darius opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Under everyone’s gaze, Helena’s body slowly turned into golden points of light.
"Darius, Julian, Maylene... I’m so happy our family could meet one more time. I love you all so much."
"Darius, take care of yourself."
Darius silently shed tears and waved towards the golden lights drifting into the sky.
"I will, Helena."
