Chapter 295: Chapter 295: Summoning Mother’s Soul

Julian sat down covered in sweat, but his expression was happier than it had ever been.

He had done it!

He had succeeded!

After taking one last look at the thirty-centimetre Oran Berry tree, Julian happily returned to his tent, lay down, and went straight to sleep.

The whole process had seemed to take less than a minute, but Julian had already exhausted most of his energy.

Ever since obtaining Aura, Julian had not been this tired.

After Julian fell asleep in the tent, Tapu Bulu immediately came over to inspect the sapling.

He discovered that this sapling was exactly the same as one that had naturally grown to thirty centimetres.

In fact, it was even healthier than a naturally grown sapling of the same size.

From the sapling’s life fluctuations, Tapu Bulu could sense traces of his own method for nurturing Oran Berry trees, the method Julian had observed from the tree beside the stone.

That was why the sapling’s roots were steadier, its leaves fuller, and its growth more balanced than expected.

He came to the front of the tent and scattered Grass-type energy over the sleeping Julian, returning some vitality to him.

This fellow...

Tapu Bulu acknowledged his will!

Good character, strong ability, and delicious cooking. Tapu Bulu could not find any reason not to help.

Julian slept until sunrise. Then he walked out of the tent.

After washing his face to wake himself up, Julian returned to the Oran Berry tree.

At night, Julian had needed his weak Fairy energy to draw down a little moonlight and use it to nourish the tree.

But during the day, sunlight was already abundant.

He did not need Fairy energy to gather it. Aura alone was enough to guide the sapling’s growth, helping it absorb sunlight, water, and nutrients with far greater efficiency.

Under the blue glow of Aura, the Oran Berry tree grew faster and more steadily than it had under moonlight, soon reaching sixty centimetres.

Then, using pruning shears, he cut off the top of the tree.

After removing the tip, the energy that would originally have gone into making the Oran Berry tree grow taller would now be supplied to the side branches instead.

Topping it at this height meant that the fruit it produced definitely would not be as plentiful as the five-metre-tall Oran Berry tree beside the large stone.

But Julian was confident that the fruit produced by this Oran Berry tree he had grown would reach seventy percent of the quality of the fruit from the tree beside the stone!

Julian picked up the bucket and watered the fruit tree again.

Once water was supplied, the tree immediately looked much more lively.

Wood ash, sawdust, and a phosphorus-rich stone he had found while clearing rocks — Julian crushed them and used them together as fertiliser for the tree.

Moonlight and morning light could replace most of the nutrients a plant needed to grow.

But if he wanted it to blossom and bear fruit, and if he wanted the fruit to taste good, fertiliser was essential.

At noon, Julian received a call from Maylene and heard her excited shout.

"Brother, Tapu Koko agreed to help us!"

"Dad battled Tapu Koko several times. He kept losing, then challenging again after losing. But Cynthia was still the amazing one."

"As soon as she arrived today, one battle was enough for her and Garchomp to gain Tapu Koko’s recognition!"

Darius listened from the side, thoroughly depressed.

They were trying to meet his wife, yet in the end, he had accomplished nothing.

Julian nodded.

"My side is almost done too. You can wander around Melemele Island for now. Once I’m finished, we’ll gather directly on Poni Island!"

"Also, Maylene, help me look up which of Alola’s four islands has bamboo forests."

Maylene nodded.

"Okay. I’ll look up the information later."

Although Maylene did not understand why Julian was looking for bamboo forests, since Julian had said it, she would look.

After night fell, Julian used moonlight to mature the Oran Berry tree again.

This time, he only made the trunk and branches grow a little thicker.

But when the next day’s dawn light shone down, flower buds had already appeared on the branches.

Yesterday, Julian had found two more natural phosphorus stones and ground them into powder to fertilise the fruit tree.

He also had not forgotten to take care of the other four hundred and ninety-nine trees.

Aula came up the mountain that day for two reasons.

One was to weed and water his own field.

The other was to deliver supplies to Julian.

The moment he reached the mountain, Aula saw that in Julian’s field, there was a lush fruit tree that had even bloomed with quite a few flowers.

Aula walked to Julian’s side.

"Julian, what’s going on with this fruit tree? Don’t tell me you transplanted a fruit tree from somewhere else."

Julian smiled.

"Do you think Tapu Bulu would allow that?"

Aula’s eyes immediately widened.

"You mastered the ability to ripen plants?"

Julian nodded slightly.

"I only barely found the trick after a lot of effort. Even maturing one fruit tree is very difficult."

Aula did not know whether to laugh or cry.

Fortunately, Julian did not plan on becoming kahuna. Otherwise, he simply would not be able to compete!

This kid was no longer an ordinary Dugtrio.

He was practically half a Tapu Bulu!

Julian smiled and said, "Perfect timing. I’m about to make the tree bear fruit. You can watch from the side."

As the morning light was absorbed by the fruit tree, the flowers quickly withered, and eight Oran Berries grew at a visible speed.

Their size was rather small, only slightly larger than a ping-pong ball.

Their diameter was not even three-quarters that of a standard Oran Berry.

Aula blinked.

"Can they be eaten now?"

Julian shook his head.

"I’ll ripen them once more with moonlight tonight, fill the Oran Berries with energy, and only then can they be picked."

Aula simply decided not to go down the mountain and waited for Julian’s berries to ripen.

Night fell.

After eating dinner to replenish his strength, Julian once again drew down moonlight.

Tired, he plucked one Oran Berry and handed it to Aula.

"Try it and see how it tastes."

He picked the remaining seven, ate one himself, and confirmed the Oran Berry’s flavour.

Only then did he take one Oran Berry and come before Tapu Bulu.

Tapu Bulu threw it into his mouth, and surprise appeared on his face.

It actually tastes this good!

He glanced at the fruit tree.

It seemed that sometimes, being small had its own advantages.

Tapu Bulu nodded and said, "I agree to help with your matter! After visiting Tapu Fini, she will know how to summon us."

Julian could not wait to call Cynthia.

"Cynthia, I succeeded!"

Cynthia was somewhat surprised.

"You grew Berries in just two days?"

Forty-eight hours.

In the games, wasn’t that exactly how long it took to grow Berries?

Julian smiled slightly.

"There are exactly six Oran Berries left. One for each of you."

Summoning his mother’s soul was Julian’s family matter.

Aula would not join in.

He only invited Julian to come to his home for a meal after meeting his mother.

The next day, the group gathered at the port of Poni Island.

Looking at the Oran Berry Julian took out, Maylene laughed.

"An Oran Berry this small? I’m sure you grew this yourself!"

Julian stuffed the Oran Berry into Maylene’s mouth.

"Just eat it!"

Darius held the berry.

"Julian, do you think I’m useless?"

Julian patted his shoulder.

"Now that you know, it’s not too late to start working hard."

Darius: "..."

Caitlin rubbed her hands excitedly.

"Let’s hurry up and set off. I can’t wait to see how a soul returns to the living world!"

After the group met Tapu Fini, Tapu Fini looked at Julian once.

Then she slipped into her shell and released a strange blue ripple.

The remaining three Tapu suddenly appeared beside Tapu Fini, arriving with yellow, green, and pink light.

Tapu Fini released mist, and the other three Tapu poured their power into her body.

A dense white mist rose into the sky.

Darius looked towards the mist with anticipation.

The mist dispersed.

But there was nothing inside.

Darius’s heart immediately sank.

Had it failed?

Then a gentle voice sounded behind Darius.

"Darius, is that you?"
