Chapter 266: Chapter 266: The Immature Ash And Pikachu

A/N:2/6 Bonus Chapters

-----------------------

Ash tightened his gloves.

"Pikachu, I’m counting on you!"

Pikachu jumped down from Ash’s shoulder and cried energetically, "Pika!"

Julian also took out a Poké Ball.

"Electabuzz, I’m counting on you!"

Electabuzz appeared again, clenched his fists, and the two antennae on his head began flickering with electricity.

His expression was fierce, making Pikachu feel pressure.

At this point, Pikachu and Ash were still very immature.

They were similar to the challengers Julian usually received.

"Ash, I’ll let you attack first."

Ash nodded and waved his hand.

"Pikachu, Quick Attack!"

Julian smiled and said, "Meet it with Thunder Punch!"

Pikachu ran quickly, charging towards Electabuzz’s abdomen with a white trail behind him.

Electabuzz quickly raised his left hand to block in front of his chest.

At the same time, he took a slight step back, so Pikachu happened to crash into his arm.

Then Electabuzz’s right hand suddenly lit up with electricity.

He punched, and Pikachu was shocked before being sent flying.

"Pikachu!"

Ash had always been very confident in Pikachu’s speed.

He had not expected that even with Quick Attack, Pikachu would still be defended against so easily by Electabuzz.

Paul sneered.

"Battling casual Trainers by the roadside made him mistakenly think Pikachu’s speed would still work against Julian’s Electabuzz."

"He’s thinking of Gym Leaders too simply."

Brock and Misty looked at each other.

They were the first two Gyms that gave Ash his Badges.

They had caused Ash to form the wrong impression of Gym Leaders.

That really was awkward.

The first person Ash truly encountered who could represent a Gym Leader was actually Sabrina.

But among Ash’s eight Gym battles, the only truly high-standard one was the battle at Cinnabar Gym.

There was also the crushing defeat at Vermilion Gym, which allowed Ash and Pikachu to grow.

The other battles all involved various accidents.

In truth, Badges were only a qualification to enter the tournament. Giving out more did not matter too much.

It just meant that Trainers without enough strength would be taught a painful lesson at the regional conference.

Julian hoped Ash could gain more growth through this battle.

Julian did not give Pikachu much time to catch his breath.

"Electabuzz, Thunderbolt!"

Electabuzz rotated his arms, boosting his electricity, then released a powerful current from the antennae on his head.

Ash shouted nervously, "Pikachu, dodge!"

But Pikachu had only just climbed up when Thunderbolt had already arrived.

There was no helping it. Electabuzz’s punch had been too heavy.

Pikachu’s body could not endure it.

He only had that much stamina. If his willpower could not hold, or if he relaxed even slightly, he would fall.

Hit by Thunderbolt, Pikachu cried out in pain.

Ash clenched his fist and shouted, "Pikachu, hang in there!"

Since this was fundamentally a spar, Electabuzz did not keep Thunderbolt going for too long.

When Thunderbolt stopped, Pikachu fell straight to the ground.

But Pikachu held on to that last breath, using both hands and feet to support himself as he stood again.

"Pika!"

Ash was extremely excited.

"Pikachu, I knew you wouldn’t go down that easily!"

Flames burned in Pikachu’s eyes. In an Electric-type mirror match, Pikachu would not give up easily!

Ash waved his hand.

"Pikachu, we’ll use Thunderbolt too!"

Julian smiled faintly.

"Take it."

Compared to dodging, directly receiving the enemy’s attack and looking completely unharmed would create much greater psychological pressure.

After being struck by Pikachu’s Thunderbolt, Electabuzz not only felt fine, but even revealed a smile.

Pikachu gritted his teeth and increased his electricity, trying to make Electabuzz feel pressure.

Electabuzz suddenly waved his hand, and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt was directly scattered by him.

In that instant, a deep sense of helplessness enveloped Pikachu.

It also enveloped Ash’s heart.

Julian calmly asked, "Ash, are you planning to concede?"

Ash gritted his teeth.

"I won’t lose just like this. Pikachu, you feel the same, right?"

Pikachu nodded.

"Pika!"

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"

Pikachu’s fighting spirit burned fiercely.

"Pika... chu!"

The Thunderbolt became especially thick, and Brock’s eyes widened slightly in shock.

"It’s Thunder! Pikachu has mastered Thunder!"

Under Electabuzz’s immense pressure, Pikachu completed a leap in spirit.

Paul was slightly surprised. He had not expected Ash and Pikachu to be able to reach this level.

But before Julian and Electabuzz’s absolute power, this level of Thunder could not shake Electabuzz at all.

There was no helping it. Electabuzz usually endured Miraidon’s moves.

Perhaps seven or eight years later, Ash would travel to Paldea and defeat Miraidon with Pikachu.

But right now, Electabuzz was an uncrossable mountain for Ash and Pikachu.

Mewtwo revealed an appreciative look. From Ash and Pikachu, Mewtwo saw a scene of humans and Pokémon living in harmony.

Wrapped in a coat and wearing a hat, Mewtwo looked like a human man.

This kind of outfit made it easier for Mewtwo to move around with everyone.

Julian smiled and said, "Ash, I admire your and Pikachu’s fighting spirit, but Pikachu hasn’t received enough training."

"I hope that in the future, you don’t wait until you encounter a setback before thinking about special training. Training should be done every day."

"Electabuzz, Thunder."

Electabuzz wildly rotated both arms, and a fierce bolt of lightning surged out.

It struck the ground all the way from in front of Pikachu, shattering the earth into countless fragments and lifting Pikachu along with them.

After Pikachu landed, his eyes had already turned into spirals, and he had fainted.

Misty shook her head.

"He had no way to fight back at all. A total defeat."

Brock nodded.

"The difference in training between the two Pokémon was too great. In the end, it’s the difference between the Trainers."

"Ash is too immature."

Julian fed Pikachu a little medicine, and Pikachu soon woke up.

Ash accepted Pikachu and asked curiously, "Julian, you said Pikachu lacks training. What kind of training does Pikachu lack?"

"Physical training. You should let Pikachu do more running. A reasonable speed and duration will allow Pikachu to gain stronger endurance, and his speed and agility will improve too."

Paul crossed his arms.

"Pokémon need to train hard and struggle. If all they know is happiness, do you think that alone will help you win battles?"

Julian hurriedly said, "As for different training philosophies, use your results at the Indigo Conference to prove them."

Ash and Paul looked at each other, then both turned away with a cold snort.

Both of them believed the other could not possibly be their opponent.

Julian reached out, patted Pikachu, and smiled.

"Pikachu, you need to lose some weight."

Pikachu scratched his cheek.

He was pretty sure he was not fat.

When Pikachu had just started travelling with Ash, he was indeed a little rounder.

It was during the long journey and many battles that Pikachu slimmed down.

Only then did he transform into the great beast-slaying Pikachu.

Ash nodded.

"I understand. Once Pikachu recovers, I’ll start training with him!"

Brock smiled and said, "Then we’ll set off first. See you again if fate allows."

Julian smiled and said, "If Maylene makes it into the Indigo Conference, I’ll personally come to watch your battles."
