Primeape was a battle maniac.
But Primeape was also semi-literate.
There was no way Primeape could understand a manual.
Julian could only explain the manual Professor Rowan had designed to Primeape himself.
Primeape listened while nodding constantly, utterly absorbed.
His instincts allowed him to sense the clever ideas contained within Professor Rowan’s version of Rage Fist.
Subconsciously following the new manual, Primeape threw a punch with Rage Fist.
Then he could not help frowning.
Primeape felt that he had not brought out the full power of this new version of Rage Fist.
Why was this new Rage Fist so much weaker than the Rage Fist he had spontaneously awakened from his bloodline?
Julian smiled and said, "The point of the Professor’s Rage Fist isn’t power. It’s developing your body!"
"If this were you before you had learned Rage Fist, you could evolve by learning the Professor’s version."
"After evolution, Annihilape’s power would allow you to naturally grasp the original Rage Fist. Then you could punch to your heart’s content."
"So don’t focus on the power. Sense the essence contained within Rage Fist instead."
Primeape suddenly understood.
He slowly punched at the air.
This time, Primeape finally sensed the subtle difference within it.
Using the new Rage Fist produced a strand of Ghost energy inside his body.
This Ghost energy was slightly different from the Ghost energy produced by eating food from the Great Crater of Paldea.
This Ghost energy was purer. As it flowed through Primeape’s body, it produced a cool and refreshing sensation.
Especially when it flowed through his brain, Primeape felt clearer-headed than ever before.
It was as if something inside his body had been touched by the Ghost energy.
Primeape wanted to try controlling it, but it felt like a monkey trying to scoop the moon out of the water. Apart from stirring up ripples, Primeape felt as though he had caught nothing.
Julian also used Aura to sense the changes in Primeape.
"Primeape, keep using Rage Fist!"
Primeape nodded and threw another punch!
One punch after another!
The new Rage Fist had low power, and its training effect on the body was also low.
With only one punch, the effect was not obvious.
Primeape felt that throwing a hundred punches might not even match one full cycle of the original Rage Fist from the first punch to the fifth.
Primeape began stirring up his anger, wanting to throw the second punch of Rage Fist.
"No. Just use the first punch!"
Primeape did not understand, but still followed Julian’s instruction.
Listening to Julian was definitely right!
In Julian’s perception, every time Primeape threw one punch with Rage Fist, a faint layer of blue light would bloom across Primeape’s body.
"The new Rage Fist is weak, but its training effect on you is very good. You need to try actively driving Rage Fist."
"Let Rage Fist evolve into the form most suitable for you. Only when its power is weak enough can you fully recognise and control it!"
The new Rage Fist was weak, but the consumption of using it was even higher than the original.
After throwing only thirty or so punches, Primeape stopped, panting.
He could not keep punching.
Professor Rowan, who had silently been collecting data on Primeape’s use of the new Rage Fist, frowned slightly and said, "It seems the manual developed in such a short time still has some issues."
"You eat something first. I’ll optimise the details of Rage Fist again."
...
After eating, Cynthia said, "Julian, Professor, I’ll head back first. I plan to use the training room at home to properly train Garchomp and the others."
"There are still two months before the next Elite Four ranking tournament. I want to try challenging for Champion in this tournament!"
Professor Rowan raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"It seems you improved quite a bit from this adventure, Cynthia. Are you confident?"
Cynthia smiled.
"My chances aren’t that high right now. Around seventy percent. But if I train for two months after going back, I think that chance should rise to eighty or ninety percent?"
Previously, the difficulty holding Cynthia back from challenging for Champion lay in how to prevent Lucario and the others from becoming breakthrough points for Bertha, Lucian, and Flint.
Now, after this trial, Lucario and the other five had improved greatly.
They were basically not far from the level of Bertha and the others’ Pokémon.
Especially Lucario. With Julian using Aura to help train him, Lucario’s progress in the Great Crater of Paldea had been second only to Garchomp’s.
Now, Bertha and the others could no longer break through Cynthia’s defence.
Then it would be Cynthia’s turn to use Garchomp to sink them one by one!
Thinking of that scene, Cynthia felt a little excited.
Professor Rowan smiled and said, "The equipment in my laboratory isn’t bad either. Why don’t you stay a few more days and let me scan the data changes in Garchomp and the others?"
If he let Cynthia go back now, Professor Rowan felt that Professor Carolina would call him in the middle of the night to complain.
She would say Professor Rowan had been useless and had prevented her from holding her great-grandchild sooner.
Cynthia waved her hand.
"We recorded the data changes in Garchomp and the others too. Those should be enough for you, Professor."
Professor Rowan shrugged.
"Fine."
It was not that he had not worked hard.
It was just that Cynthia, this battle maniac, could not be stopped!
Julian smiled and said, "I’ll see you off."
After leaving Professor Rowan’s laboratory, Cynthia stopped and was just about to say a few words to Julian.
In Julian’s mind, however, scenes from his time with Cynthia in the Great Crater of Paldea kept appearing.
The corner of his mouth rose unconsciously.
He did not notice that Cynthia had already stopped, and he solidly bumped into her.
"You!"
Cynthia cried out softly, her body uncontrollably pitching forward.
Julian’s heart tightened. By reflex, he reached out and grabbed her arm.
In the chaos, his leg accidentally tripped Cynthia. The two of them immediately lost their balance and fell together onto the soft grass.
The instant they fell, Julian instinctively protected Cynthia in his arms, using his own body as a cushion.
He lowered his head, wanting to check whether the person in his arms was alright.
Cynthia’s faintly flushed cheeks, and that gaze that seemed to turn slightly away...
The soft glow coated her delicate features in a thin mist. Those eyes, holding autumn water...
"So beautiful..."
Cynthia turned her face to the side and patted his firm chest.
Her voice was weak.
"You... get up."
Julian awkwardly got up and helped Cynthia to her feet.
"Cynthia, I’m planning to call Cassia tomorrow and invite her out. When you go back, help me persuade Cassia. Tell her not to focus only on work, and at least care about me a little more. What do you think?"
Did you have to say that at a time like this!?
Bastard!!!
"I haven’t forgotten!"
Cynthia’s tone was somewhat stiff.
"Cassia... I’ll help persuade her. Call Cassia tomorrow. I guarantee Cassia will have time!"
When her Cassia identity was revealed, maybe he could hold her like just now again?
Julian gave her a bright thumbs-up.
"Then I’ll leave it to you. I’m counting on you."
Cynthia’s heart skipped.
For one terrible second, she thought he had seen through her KingGarchomp identity.
Then Julian fought back a smile and added, "Once Cassia and I get together, you’ll be the greatest wingman in Sinnoh."
Oh...
That was what he meant.
Cynthia quietly relaxed and waved him off.
"As long as there’s enough ice cream, I’ll do my part. Just don’t forget your loyal wingman once you have Cassia."
Julian held out his hand.
"Deal?"
You really switched between identities that smoothly? Cynthia, as expected of you
She shook his hand.
"Deal. Now go back and train Primeape. I’m leaving."
Julian watched her walk away, faintly flustered despite how composed she tried to look, and the corner of his mouth curved into a smirk.
"Got it. Be careful on the way."
