Chapter 1466: Chapter 477: Scattering Like Birds and Beasts (Part 3)
"You’re right, it’s possible, but we can’t afford to gamble."
The most terrifying thing in this world is "what if?"
Are they willing to take the gamble?
Betting their careers and futures, just to gamble that the other side doesn’t have a nuclear bomb in their own capital?
Even if they win the bet in the end, what can they gain?
Let’s not forget that besides England, France, and Germany, the others are merely here to make up the numbers. Even if Horizon Corporation is defeated in the end, these three will take the lion’s share, so what’s the point?
The only one who could possibly help is Ort, but his nuclear bomb on the Valmy has already been used in the previous war.
Without being pushed to a dead end like Morrison, they absolutely don’t have the resolve to make an all-or-nothing bet. As long as there’s even a bit of retreat available, they will cling to that "what if" mentality.
That damn bastard calculated against all of them!
Having figured this out, Morrison felt his blood boiling, but he didn’t dare inform the others of being attacked by satellites, otherwise the United Fleet would immediately disperse like birds and beasts.
This dilemma of being unable to advance or retreat made Morrison unable to bear it any longer; his mouth tasted of blood.
"Pfft!"
A mouthful of old blood was spat out, and he collapsed into the chair, his previously energetic demeanor now suddenly aged by at least ten years.
"General..."
Originally heading to evacuate, Cavendish returned to the control room and immediately noticed the dejected Morrison. He quickly approached and pulled out a handkerchief from his jacket pocket, offering it.
"Alas..."
Morrison didn’t take the handkerchief
"What’s the situation outside?"
Cavendish replied truthfully
"The enemy’s bombing has stopped; those space-based weapons struck us 25 times in total, all hitting the target. The ship’s hull is damaged by 47%, we’ve already lost all combat capability, and the No. 3 propulsion engine is damaged."
"All departments are still in a state of chaos; personnel losses can’t be counted at the moment, but at least exceed four hundred."
Upon hearing such massive losses, Morrison’s face became even more bitter. Previously as hard as iron, his speech now filled with sighs.
"Crushing defeat..."
The current situation of the Admiral Scheer is worse than any of the three transport ships that previously crossed the Florida Strait.
He still couldn’t understand where Horizon Corporation obtained those space-based weapons. Previously, the European Community had already negotiated with Military Science, prohibiting them from supplying space-based weaponry strikes. Huang Ban also had plenty of directors and inside lines, so as long as they intended to use satellites, the European Community would receive advance notice.
But now, why didn’t they receive any news before they got bombed?
Could Horizon Corporation’s satellites have magically appeared?
However, only the Admiral Scheer and Hood fell victim this time; considering the remaining warships, they still have an absolute advantage. As long as they unite, they can still defeat the Horizon Mercenaries.
Organizing his thoughts, Morrison finally accepted the handkerchief, wiping away the blood from the corner of his mouth, and asked
"By the way, what’s the situation over in Bermuda?"
Cavendish hesitated to speak, remained silent for a few moments, before slowly speaking
"Just received news, the anti-gravity engine of the Vasa is damaged and is making a forced descent towards the sea, the other four ships are retreating from the battleground."
"?"
This news baffled Morrison further; wasn’t the Pola already sunk?
Why the hell is the Vasa making a forced descent?
Seeing Morrison’s bafflement, Cavendish explained with difficulty
"Each ship was forcibly boarded by Horizon Mercenary squads; the ship’s forces fought desperately to resist. The Vasa unfortunately was breached to the lower levels by the enemy; although the invaders were successfully eliminated, the anti-gravity engine suffered an explosion, unable to maintain hover status, and has to descend."
"And Hood?"
Morrison gritted his teeth, struggling not to pass out
"How many people were rescued?"
"They..."
Cavendish shook his head
"They didn’t organize any rescue team to save Hood; they’ve already abandoned both Vasa and Hood, retreating alone."
Spouses are like birds of the same forest, but fly separately when disaster strikes.
Moreover, considering the not-so-good relations between the British and French, who knows what spooky thing that group of Horizon Mercenaries are hiding there. Staying even a second longer makes their ships’ risk keep rising.
They’re running, they’re running
If they can’t afford to provoke, they can at least hide, can’t they?
An army without beliefs, not serving a political collective, will surely avoid fighting when faced with powerful enemies. Europeans will absolutely not be roused unless Horizon Mercenaries invade Europe.
Privatization?
That’s more of a joke.
"I..."
Finally unable to hold on, Morrison’s eyes rolled, and he fainted.

The evil god was ultimately eliminated by the Internet Supervisor; as humanity’s last line of defense in cyberspace, their significance cannot be underestimated.
However, they were unable to uncover the players’ true identities; after the evil god’s data core was breached, the players’ virtual machines swiftly collapsed into basic data fragments, impossible to reverse-engineer and gather useful information.
In the cyber command center, the scene of satellites bombarding the Admiral Scheer was fully recorded and sent back to cyberspace by David and Mann. Everyone watching as that magnificent giant battleship caught fire under the faint starlight in the night were getting really tense.
Though it was slightly regrettable that Admiral Scheer wasn’t sunk in the end, judging by what they saw from afar, the damage sustained was certainly severe, at least losing combat capability.
This made the group even more puzzled
Wildman: "How did you know they won’t fire nuclear missiles?"
Commander-in-Chief: "What if they get desperate and launch the nukes?"
"Don’t know."
Family Joy said flatly
"There’s nothing in this world that’s 100%, and I can’t guarantee it, but it’s our only deterrent from them using nuclear weapons. At least, this mutually assured destruction condition has protected our world for over eighty years of peace."
"Conquering the strong with the weak often requires paying a price."
Even if in the end the nuclear bomb drops and the players die ninety-nine percent, there will still be close to ten thousand revival standard kits.
A thousand people, enough to hold until others revive
