Players Invade Cyberpunk
Chapter 1440 - 469: Firepower Frontline
Chapter 1440: Chapter 469: Firepower Frontline
Even though this wasn’t the first time they clashed with players, even though they knew the enemy would be burned into scrap metal by white phosphorus before entering firing range, the British soldiers still couldn’t help but tremble at the sight of such a thrilling scene.
These weren’t just cannon fodder relying on human wave tactics nor were they maniacs charging through walls of fire.
They were elite suicide attackers who, knowing they couldn’t escape the bombing range, chose to charge forward willingly, wanting to die on the path of the charge so they wouldn’t be mocked on forums when they returned.
Watching those metal skeletons fall on the distant hillside, the trench fell into a deathly silence, an oppressive atmosphere causing everyone to tremble.
As an emergency squad assigned to the frontline, their equipment was nothing short of excellent, with Power Armor, individual phased array radar, swarm drones, missiles at their disposal, and a large support from friendly armored units nearby.
But at this moment, none of this could provide them even a shred of psychological comfort.
"Sir!"
The reconnaissance technician shouted loudly
"The radar has picked up a response, numerous enemy units are approaching!"
"Where?"
"On the other side of the fire!"
Everyone looked towards the blazing wall of fire, somewhat in disbelief.
Would those lunatics on the other side face our firepower while being blocked by such a line of fire?
Of course not, the players aren’t fools; they have a more hardcore way to extinguish the fire.
A player in an MT-4 raised a box-shaped rocket nest from the ground, loading it onto his right shoulder with the assistance of an intelligent machine, the warheads already replaced by the transport platform.
The rocket nest was leveled, aimed at the sea of fire ahead.
"Thermobaric warhead loaded!"
"Fire!"
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!
Rockets, each as thick as two fingers, flew off like arrows leaving the bowstring, plunging into the sea of fire.
Boom!
The rockets exploded one after another in the sea of fire, the shockwave quickly suppressing the soaring flames, creating an empty zone in what was just a roasting inferno, not even a spark was left.
Seeing the firewall breached, the officer shouted, gritting his teeth
"Quick, request artillery support!"
"No way, the request was rejected. They say there’s a more important area needing fire support right now; they can’t focus on us for now, we can only find the nearest armored fire support."
"Damn it!"
The officer couldn’t believe one day he wouldn’t be able to secure fire support; just how intense was this battle?
He turned back, yelling at the heavy-armored Power Armor gunman behind him
"Sphinx, bombard the enemy once before we talk!"
In terms of firepower configuration, the current Europeans were not worse than the players, surpassing them in precision and power, but without sufficient supply, they easily ran into exhaustion as the more intense the fire, the greater the consumption.
Soon, rocket nests and plasma cannons were deployed, and crimson beams streaked across the headquarters, even over the distant horizon, causing a series of earth-shaking explosions outside the field of vision, with micro rockets screaming down like a swarm of mosquitoes, small mushroom clouds rising one after another.
This wasn’t indiscriminate bombing but accurately distributing the rockets to the extreme with the aid of intelligent control programs.
Seeing the radar’s red dots suddenly diminish significantly, the reconnaissance soldier felt most of the pressure lifted off.
But the cheer lasted less than 2 seconds before he saw his officer’s expression shift from stern to terrified, his widened mouth seeming to scream something, its shape suggesting — [Get down]
But it’s too late now
"Boom!!!"
A sky-rending explosion overwhelmed the reconnaissance soldier’s senses, blowing him away.
The entire world trembled; even with Power Armor’s protection, the shockwave almost dislocated his organs, blood oozed from his mouth and nose, vision became dark, earth shook, mountain quaked, then he passed out.
When the officer regained consciousness several minutes later, everything was pitch black, only the face shield’s interface still working, seemingly buried under soil.
He awoke in a daze, struggled to draw out his arm, pushed away the dirt pressing on him, and crawled out from a foot-thick underground.
What just happened?
Then the commander seemed to realize something, turned his stiff neck to look around
The black smoke signifying death almost overwhelmed the world, charred soil emitted endless heat, random flames drifted down from the sky, he seemed to be in Hell.
The center of the explosion was not far behind him, where gunner Sphinx set up weapons, but now only a six-meter diameter pit remained, the surrounding soil compressed tightly.
Clang!
A helmet charred and deformed by the blast landed on the ground, the white vertebra at the break clearly visible, after which a bloody rain of twisted iron poured down from above.
The metallic clanging seemed like a dance using human souls for music.
Plop
Something hit the officer’s helmet, he reached out to take it off, held it before his eyes
It was a muscle-stained eyeball, though its vitreous body was shattered, sticky liquid dripped down his fingers onto the ground.
The officer remembered this eye; it was the pride of machine gunner Worrie, who claimed his eyesight was even better than an artificial eye.
Terror-stricken, he flung it far away
Rain kept pouring down harder.
The officer, in a daze, finally propped himself up, dazed and bewildered, gazing around.
Why did I come to Cuba?
What am I doing in this hellhole?
Sphinx is dead
Worrie is dead
Henry is dead
