Peerless Medical Emperor
Chapter 298: Dealing with the Newspaper President
"President Sun, if we're going to have a drink, let's have a real drink. Is tea what men drink? Tonight, I'm treating you to the VIP suite at the Rose Grand Hotel. Let's have a few," Chen Qingdi said.
"I'll have my head of security pick you up personally. Clear your schedule."
Sun Miao, on the other end of the line, was clearly a bit surprised. He paused for a moment before laughing and agreeing.
After hanging up, Chen Qingdi began to strategize. He was well aware of his position in this matter.
Although he held a certain status and influence in the city, not everyone would do his bidding. Some people would even try to challenge his authority and position.
But for a reporter like Li Bing, all they had were some ethereal concepts of "truth" and "justice," with no real power or means. Chen Qingdi was confident he could handle any situation.
Time passed quickly, and evening arrived in the blink of an eye. Chen Qingdi's head of security, Qian Laoliu, drove personally to pick up Sun Miao.
On the way to the hotel, Sun Miao felt a little uneasy. He knew his relationship with Chen Qingdi wasn't simple; they were both collaborators and competitors.
And this invitation for drinks felt all the more mysterious and unpredictable.
When they arrived at the hotel, Chen Qingdi had already been waiting in the VIP suite for a long time. He sat there, looking perfectly calm, sipping tea.
This was both surprising and reassuring to Sun Miao. He walked over and sat down next to Chen Qingdi, and a waiter immediately poured them tea.
"President Chen, I hear you've been in a bit of trouble recently," Sun Miao said, taking the initiative. "But you don't seem concerned."
Chen Qingdi smiled and said, "It's all trivial. Not worth my attention."
Sun Miao nodded. "I have faith in your power and methods. But that reporter, Li Bing, seems pretty relentless."
"She's just a minor reporter," Chen Qingdi said dismissively. "As long as I don't respond, she won't have any more opportunities."
Sun Miao frowned. "But it seems she's already got her sights set on you."
"Then let her watch," Chen Qingdi said nonchalantly. "If she really dares to cross the line, my head of security will teach her a lesson."
In the luxurious VIP suite, Chen Qingdi picked up a glass of wine and walked toward Sun Miao with a smile. Sun Miao, sitting on the sofa, watched him, his heart filled with confusion.
"President Sun, I have great respect for your news agency, and I've always wanted to be friends with you," Chen Qingdi said, handing the wine to Sun Miao.
"But I don't understand why your reporter is causing trouble for me. There's no grudge between us. I hope we can be friends."
Sun Miao took the glass, swirled it gently, and said with a frown, "President Chen, I also enjoy making friends. But being my friend isn't easy. First, you have to be a good person."
Chen Qingdi was displeased. He retorted, "What right do you have to say I'm not a good person?"
Sun Miao looked at him and said coldly, "If you're a good person, why do you abuse your mother-in-law, Yao Shufen?"
Chen Qingdi's face instantly turned ashen. He furiously smashed his wine glass on the floor, the sound of it shattering echoing through the room.
He glared at Sun Miao and said, word by word, "What right do you have to call me a bad person? What do you know?"
Sun Miao looked at him and said calmly, "I know you're ruthless and will stop at nothing for your own benefit, including using violence against Yao Shufen. Is that your idea of a good deed?"
Chen Qingdi was so angry he gritted his teeth. He roared, "Nonsense! I have never abused Yao Shufen!"
Sun Miao chuckled softly and said, "Whether you abused Yao Shufen or not is irrelevant. What's important is your character. How can a man who uses violence against his own family be considered a good person?"
Chen Qingdi's expression grew even uglier. He glared at Sun Miao, his eyes blazing with fury. Clenching his fists, he spat out, "Sun Miao, don't push me too far!"
Sun Miao just stared back at him coldly without a word. Silence fell over the room. Chen Qingdi took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. 'This isn't the time to have a complete falling out with Sun Miao. I need to think about how to handle this.'
Chen Qingdi sat back down, his mind racing. 'I can't go head-to-head with Sun Miao. This man is much tougher to deal with than I imagined. I need to handle this situation with care.'
"President Sun, I think our misunderstanding will take time to resolve," Chen Qingdi said calmly. "I hope we can become friends, not enemies."
Sun Miao looked at him and said flatly, "I also hope to be friends with you, but first you must prove you are a good person. Otherwise, a friendship between us will be impossible."
Chen Qingdi nodded. 'I know what he means. I'll have to make some changes to win his trust.'
As the luxurious dinner continued, the conversation between the two grew increasingly tense.
"Let me tell you something. I'm treating you to this meal today because I'm showing you respect," Chen Qingdi said, looking coldly at Sun Miao, his tone filled with an unquestionable authority.
But Sun Miao wasn't buying it. He frowned and retorted, "You're treating me? Don't make me laugh. You should be paying for this meal. You owe me."
Chen Qingdi's gaze turned even sharper as he spoke.
"I'm giving you face, but you don't know what's good for you. I thought highly enough of you to invite you to this VIP suite at the Rose Grand Hotel, but I didn't expect you to be so shameless."
Hearing this, Sun Miao was filled with indignation. He responded stubbornly, "Well, in that case, I have no intention of showing you any respect either. I'll be leaving now. As for the meal, since you want to make such a big deal about who's paying, you can foot the bill yourself."
Not to be outdone, Chen Qingdi turned to leave and said with a cold laugh, "Fine. In that case, you can pay for the meal yourself."
Sun Miao went to the front desk to settle the bill.
However, when the waiter told him the meal cost eight thousand US Dollars, he was stunned by the number and began to argue.
"How could this meal be so expensive? Did you make a mistake?" Sun Miao asked, confused.
The waiter explained patiently, "These are our hotel's set prices. If you do not wish to pay this fee, you can contact our client manager."
A bitter feeling washed over Sun Miao. He knew the amount was far too much for him. He hesitated for a moment but was ultimately forced to pay. As he left the hotel, his heart was exceptionally heavy.
'I hate you, Chen Qingdi!' Sun Miao thought silently.
'Chen Qingdi was just toying with me, making me pay a heavy price. I'll have to be more cautious from now on and not trust people so easily.'
