Chapter 212: Ye Shi Yi is an Assassin

  • Next Chapter

After rescuing Shen Mingyue, she said her goodbyes to Chen Qingdi as she had other business to attend to.

Chen Qingdi also had his own matters to deal with, so he didn’t escort her back to her company.

He had stirred up a hornet’s nest and made a powerful enemy. Deeply concerned for her safety, he asked Chen Yuan to protect her in secret.

He drove back toward the villa on Cloud Mist Mountain.

On the way, he suddenly heard a scream.

"Murder! Help!"

He quickly pulled into a temporary parking spot, opened his door, and ran toward the scene.

The scene was at the entrance of a bar on a side road. He saw a woman with a dagger, swinging it down again and again. With every swing, a scream of agony came from the person on the ground.

The screams came from a man who, by the sound of his voice, was middle-aged or older.

He rushed over at once, shouting, "Stop!"

Even as he shouted, he had already flung a silver needle from his hand.

Usually, a single move was all he needed to hit an acupoint on his opponent’s arm, paralyzing it and forcing them to drop their weapon.

It was the best way to save the victim, allowing him to choose whether to kill or simply restrain the attacker.

The silver needle struck the woman’s wrist, but the expected didn’t happen. Instead, with a DANG, the needle seemed to strike something metal and ricocheted to the ground.

The woman crouched down and, in one smooth motion, slit the man’s throat.

At this, Chen Qingdi stopped holding back, unleashing the Flying Dragon Fist with his other hand.

The advantage of this technique was its ability to project force from over ten paces away, wounding a person with invisible power.

Of course, it had its drawbacks: the execution wasn’t fast, and it had a long cooldown period.

But to his surprise, the assassin dodged the powerful blow with a simple twist of her waist.

Chen Qingdi froze. The woman before him looked incredibly familiar, and he couldn’t stop himself from calling out.

"Ye Shi Yi? Is that you?"

The woman’s gaze swept over him, cold and laced with danger. Though her face was identical to Ye Shi Yi’s, her demeanor and expression were worlds apart.

What was more terrifying was that she moved like lightning, appearing before Chen Qingdi in an instant. With a forward grip on her dagger, she stabbed toward his lower body.

Chen Qingdi had no suitable weapon on him. His silver needles weren’t meant for close combat, and there wasn’t enough time to attempt to disarm her empty-handed.

So, he decisively sidestepped while simultaneously flicking another silver needle toward the back of her dagger-wielding elbow.

Caught off guard, the woman’s wrist went numb, and her dagger fell to the ground with a CLANG.

Just as Chen Qingdi moved to restrain her, she suddenly ducked, snatched up the dagger, and rolled away to escape.

Once she was on her feet, she jumped, covering the distance to a nearby shared bicycle in a few quick leaps.

By the time Chen Qingdi got there, she had already deftly scanned the QR code and ridden away.

Naturally, witnesses to the murder had already called the authorities.

Unable to catch her, Chen Qingdi turned back to see that the area had already been cordoned off with police tape. A medical examiner was inspecting the body.

Investigators, of course, approached him to take his statement, and Chen Qingdi recounted what had just happened truthfully.

He explained that he was just passing by, had heard cries for help and rushed over, but unfortunately, he was too late—the attacker had already killed the victim.

By then, someone had pulled up the surveillance footage. The video matched Chen Qingdi’s account exactly, confirming that he had not colluded with the murderer. So, after thanking him, they let him leave.

Chen Qingdi drove toward Cloud Mist Mountain, his mind full of questions.

’I haven’t seen Shiyi in five or six years. How did she learn such incredible martial arts? And why did she attack me?’

This thought made him worry about the family members living in his home.

On one hand, he had Yimulin Middle School and his daughter, Lin Qingmeng; on the other, his sister figure, Ye Shi Yi, and Mrs. Wen.

’If Ye Shi Yi is the killer, will she harm the others around her?’

’If she really did go after the others, how could I ever face the sister who has shown me so much kindness?’

He racked his brain but couldn’t figure it out, so he decided to stop dwelling on it.

He drove straight into the complex. Just as he parked, the steward, Li Fu, walked over.

"Young Master, you’re back?"

Chen Qingdi asked casually, "How is everything at home?"

Steward Li smiled. "Everything at home is well. Madam Lin and Madam Wen are in good health. Miss Lin and Miss Ye are also doing very well. They are currently studying business management, preparing to start their own company!"

Chen Qingdi nodded. "Has Miss Ye gone out recently?"

Steward Li shook his head. "Miss Ye wants to open a yoga studio, so she’s been studying yoga lately. She hasn’t gone out in a long time."

"Is it possible she went out without telling you?"

Steward Li realized something was amiss. "Young Master, are you implying there’s a problem with Miss Ye?"

Chen Qingdi realized he had no proof and couldn’t make baseless accusations; it would only damage his relationship with his sister. He rephrased his concern.

"It’s been chaotic outside lately, and someone might be targeting the family. I need you to assign more people to protect everyone here."

Hearing this, Steward Li bowed respectfully. "As you command!"

In truth, Chen Qingdi didn’t care much for hierarchies and had asked Steward Li to call him by his name. But the steward had served his father for many years, and no matter how many times Chen Qingdi corrected him, he insisted on calling him "Young Master."

Over time, Chen Qingdi grew tired of correcting him. It didn’t matter what he was called; Chen Qingdi respected him as an elder. This man had remained loyal ever since the fall of his family and was one of his most trusted confidants.

He made his way from the garage to the first floor. Just as he stepped out, he saw Ye Shi Yi. She was holding a glass of water, apparently on her way to his bedroom. Hearing his footsteps, she turned and saw him.

She was overjoyed, her face breaking into a smile as she looked at Chen Qingdi.

"You’re back, little brother! Is your work all done?"

Chen Qingdi stared intently at her face, but he couldn’t find the slightest trace of the killer’s aura he’d just witnessed.

’How strange,’ he thought. ’We must have arrived home one right after the other. Even if she’s fast, there’s no way she had enough time to change out of a bloody outfit, take a shower, and put on a whole new face.’

’Am I missing something?’

But Chen Qingdi was a steady person, so he didn’t question his beloved sister. Instead, he just smiled.

"I hear you’re practicing yoga, Sis? Getting ready to open a women’s fitness center?"

Ye Shi Yi nodded. "I can’t just sit at home and live off of everyone else; I have to find a career for myself. Qingmeng and I were talking, and we decided to open a members-only fitness center."

Of course, Chen Qingdi was fully supportive. "I’ll support you no matter what you decide to do, Sis. How much money do you need? Have you found a location? Is there anything I can do to help?"
