Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 790: You Like Walker Grant, Right?
A hint of worry surfaced on Annie York’s face. She looked at Walker Grant, wanting to say something but hesitating.
Preston Vance gave her an extra glance before quickly withdrawing his gaze.
Once all the dishes were served, everyone picked up their chopsticks to eat. Walker and Preston didn’t say much else, at least allowing the meal to finish in peace.
After dinner, Preston said, "Chloe, I’ll take off first. I still have a lot of things to take care of. Let’s hang out again when you’re free."
Chloe Reed nodded. "Okay."
Annie also stood up. "Chloe, I’m heading out too."
Chloe gave her a hug and typed on her phone, "Work hard, and contact me if you need anything."
Annie nodded and went downstairs.
Fiona Linton looked at Chloe. "Chloe, do you want to go home and rest? You look a bit pale. Are you too tired?"
"Yeah," Chloe nodded.
Walker stood up. "Then let’s go back together."
They went downstairs separately, got into their cars, and left.
Annie planned to take the subway back. However, she hadn’t walked far when a car pulled up next to her. The window rolled down, revealing Preston’s gentle, handsome face.
"Ann, get in. I’ll give you a ride," Preston told her.
Annie quickly waved her hands and said, "Thank you, Mr. Vance, but there’s no need. The subway is very fast."
Preston smiled. "I actually have something I want to talk to you about. Get in."
Annie felt an inexplicable rush of nervousness. When facing a superior, she couldn’t help but feel constrained. Especially when he looked at her with such a serious attitude, she couldn’t help but wonder if she had done something wrong.
However, she didn’t interact with Preston much. Mostly, it was him initiating contact to ask about Chloe’s recent situation. Other than that, there was nothing.
Annie thought back carefully and, finding nothing amiss, finally relaxed. She thanked him, "Then thank you."
She got into the car and sat somewhat stiffly in the backseat.
Preston sat right next to her. He glanced at her a couple of times before asking bluntly, "You like Walker Grant, don’t you?"
Hearing this, Annie’s eyes widened in shock. Her face paled as the sheer terror of having her secret discovered enveloped her completely.
He had actually seen right through her!
The last time, when the old lady found out, she had been just as overwhelmingly nervous. She had immediately resigned because she didn’t want to cause any trouble for Chloe, nor did she want to disappoint the old lady, as Chloe’s grandmother had treated her incredibly well.
But right now, her heart constricted with a mix of anxiety and fear. Her hands gripped her bag tightly, and her eyes darted away in panic as she stammered, "I... I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Preston chuckled lightly. "Don’t be afraid. Liking someone isn’t anything to be ashamed of. I know you’re worried about Chloe, which is why you haven’t dared to show it."
Annie bit her lip, remaining silent. She didn’t know what he meant by bringing this up. She hadn’t intruded on Chloe’s life; she had hidden these feelings very deeply, very well.
"Ann, you’re actually very outstanding. You’re beautiful, and for your age, being able to handle so many things shows you’re highly capable. You shouldn’t feel inferior. You have every right to let go of your reservations and pursue the happiness you want," Preston said patiently, his gentle tone guiding her.
Annie grew even more tense. "Mr. Vance, what exactly are you trying to say?"
