"Chloe."

Walker Grant spoke, his deep voice slightly hoarse. He didn’t care how many people were present; he simply grabbed her hand and pressed it directly against his own cheek.

Daniel Hayes couldn’t help but let out a light cough.

Fiona Linton curled her lips in disgust.

Preston Vance raised his eyebrows slightly, feeling that Walker was truly scheming and playing the pity card once again.

Annie York, however, looked at Walker with worry in her eyes, her gaze lingering on his face. She wondered when Mr. Grant’s eyes would heal and if he was still in pain. However, these thoughts only swirled in her mind for a few seconds before she retracted her gaze. That wasn’t something she should concern herself with.

Chloe Reed’s fingertips curled slightly. Then, she spoke, pausing deliberately after each word. "Let’s. Eat."

"Okay." Walker curled his thin lips into a smile. Being touched by her made him very happy.

He leaned in close to her, sitting right by her side. He looked like an eager puppy whose owner had finally returned from a long trip, unable to hold back his excitement.

Seeing that they indeed knew each other, the waiter handed over the menu. "What would you all like to eat?"

Chloe looked at Annie York and Preston Vance. "Order. Food."

Preston took the menu and pointed out two dishes. Annie ordered one, and Fiona and Daniel each ordered one as well. Chloe then turned to look at Walker.

As if sensing her gaze, he spoke up. "I’ll have whatever you’re having."

Chloe ordered a dish for herself, and the waiter soon left the private room.

Preston reached up to adjust his glasses. "It’s inconvenient for Mr. Grant to travel. You shouldn’t be wandering around so casually. If something were to happen, wouldn’t that just make Chloe feel even more guilty?"

Walker’s tone was tinged with a hint of coldness. "Is Mr. Vance really that free? You even have the time to micromanage whether I leave the house?"

"I just don’t want you to cause Chloe too much trouble. She needs her own space and time," Preston countered, refusing to back down.

Walker merely chuckled. "But we are husband and wife. Bothering each other, being considerate of each other, and loving each other is the norm." He tightened his grip on Chloe’s hand, his voice dropping a few octaves. "Isn’t that how couples are supposed to be? You dote on me, and I dote on you. That’s how we make it through a lifetime together."

Fiona fell silent, making a silent gagging expression. She really couldn’t take it anymore. The money she was making from this job was far too hard-earned!

Preston continued, "That only applies if it’s based on mutual love. When one person no longer loves the other, no matter how much the latter does, it’s all in vain. It only becomes a burden to the other person. Mr. Grant is exceptionally brilliant; surely you understand this logic?"

His words were full of provocation, essentially telling him straight to his face that Chloe didn’t love him anymore.

Walker wasn’t angry. Instead, he smiled faintly. "Mr. Vance is truly so thoughtful about my marriage with Chloe. But rest assured, we will only get better and better."

Preston was rendered speechless, thinking about how utterly shameless the man was.

Chloe remained expressionless, silently feeling the invisible crossfire between them.

Annie pursed her lips and finally asked, "Miss Linton, how are Mr. Grant’s eyes recovering?"

She really couldn’t hold it in anymore. She wondered why they had to bicker out of jealousy when the most important thing right now was their health. Chloe’s voice was already recovering, but Mr. Grant was still wearing bandages. Were there really no signs of improvement in his eyes?

Fiona replied, "My examinations show that his eyes are progressing in a positive direction. As for exactly when he will be able to see again, it’s hard for me to say."
