Chapter 1410: Chapter 1410: Rescue (Part 1)
"Is it really okay to just let them go like that?" Gu Shenghui glanced at Liu Xuanji, who seemed quite dissatisfied with the outcome, and leaned over to Pei Yan to ask quietly.
"What else can we do!" Pei Yan sighed with a hint of regret and helplessness: "The fact that they dared to come means they must have figured out a retreat plan. This isn’t the first time we’ve faced them, so instead of getting entangled in this mess, it’s better for everyone to save their energy."
Despite what Pei Yan said on the surface, he felt a surge of helplessness within. If he were in top condition, he wouldn’t mind forcibly detaining them for a fight to see what tricks they had up their sleeves. But given his current state and the fact that he still had a child to rescue, he truly had no desire to engage in another battle with them.
Gu Shenghui noticed Pei Yan’s fatigue and assumed that the battle must have been tough for him. Without saying much, he exchanged a few words to learn about the details and outcome of the battle in the independent space before asking, "So, are you planning to go rescue Du Guangyuan’s son next?"
"Yes! A promise is a promise! No matter what, that child is considered one of our world’s people, and we must find a way to rescue him. Whether he survives will depend on his fate." Pei Yan wasn’t as obsessed with the child as he was with revenge. Besides the promise to Du Guangyuan, he felt more sympathy for the child—a child who suffered hardships before birth and has been tortured and used by the Vlad Clan since birth. Furthermore, the Upper Star Squad had a connection with the child as they were harmed by Delacuri during the rescue mission for his mother. If they could successfully rescue the child, it would be a fitting conclusion to this ordeal.
"Alright!" Gu Shenghui nodded and turned to converse with the adepts from the Spirit Monster Plane who came to assist. Eliminating Delacuri was in the interest of the alliance, but the subsequent rescue and destruction of his clan were matters of the investigative hall. Therefore, the reinforcements from both sides had no further reason to assist, and Gu Shenghui needed to explain the situation, thank them, and then send them off.
Pei Yan, lacking the mood to chat with everyone, merely bowed slightly to thank them before leaving Gu Shenghui to handle these matters. He then approached the two hostages from the Vlad family. Looking at Moira, who’s been transformed into a woman, and then at Radu, whom he had just struck, Pei Yan crouched down and couldn’t resist ridiculing, "It seems like you two are truly unloved! I almost feel sorry for you!"
"Where’s my father? He won’t abandon us! Where is my father?" Radu asked Pei Yan, forcing himself to muster some courage. Until now, he was still in a state of confusion. A few months ago, he was full of vigor, but somehow he became a prisoner, tortured for months, and then inexplicably brought here. He thought that his family had sent people to rescue him, but he didn’t see any familiar faces among the enemy’s ranks. His ear was also injured during the fight. He felt if this continued, he would be driven completely mad by the devil-like man before him.
"Don’t you realize? We’ve already been abandoned!" Moira, shackled in chains, seemingly more aware than her brother, lay lifelessly on the mud, giving Radu a sidelong glance with a bitter smile.
"Nonsense! That’s you! You’re the disgrace of the family! Father might abandon you! But he would never abandon me!" Earlier, both of them were far from the battlefield and their powers were suppressed, so they couldn’t hear Pei Yan and others’ conversation. Radu still held onto a slim hope that the family would come to save him from his plight.
Once insulted by the brother he once looked down upon, Moira had no intention of refuting. She merely curled up slightly and gave him a pitying look like she was looking at a fool, then closed her eyes in despair.
"Enough! Stop arguing! From a certain perspective, your father’s love for you two is the same." Pei Yan glanced at Radu, whose eyes brightened with a glimmer of hope upon hearing this, then sharply remarked to dash that hope, "He views both of you as trash, trash that can be discarded by the family at any time. From the start of this operation, he never planned to rescue you. Think about it, the situation here was so tense, yet they only sent a few level six or seven mid-level agents to guard you. If Blood Race and your father truly intended to rescue you, even sending a few more experts to create chaos could have helped rescue you. Even failing that could have been a distraction to the battle. Sadly, no force attempted this during the entire situation."
Radu fell silent for a moment, choked up by Pei Yan’s barrage of accusations. Though he had considered the possibility of such an outcome, hearing outright that his father had truly abandoned him deeply affected him, making acceptance difficult. His brother clearly anticipated this outcome long before, unbothered by Pei Yan’s ridicule, merely let out a dry chuckle to show his stance.
"However, you don’t need to hate your father either. As the saying goes, karma cycles around. He abandoned his two sons, and at the same time, he was abandoned by the Blood Race as bait. Not only did his dream of the family’s rise crumble, but he also lost his life in vain. Your entire family will have to pay for your initial foolish actions."
Moira could no longer remain calm after hearing Pei Yan’s words. Opening his eyes, he questioned in unison with Radu, "What did you say?"
"Impossible! My father couldn’t have died! And definitely not by your hand!" Radu, trying hard to stand up, shouted angrily at Pei Yan. Unfortunately, his weak body was lightly pulled down by the agent guarding him from behind, collapsing even as he continued shouting rebuttals of impossibility against Pei Yan’s claim.
Moira quickly regained his composure after the initial shock and, after some thought, sneered, "You didn’t catch my father, letting him escape, right? You’re trying to trick us into revealing ways to target him?" Moira believed Pei Yan might have the strength to defeat his father now, but knowing the father’s abilities in escape, he doubted Pei Yan could kill him. In his eyes, this was Pei Yan bluffing.
Upon hearing this, Radu too regained his composure, thinking, yes, that must be it! Pei Yan was trying to deceive him! With this possibility, hope reignited in his heart. Just as he was preparing to mock Pei Yan’s clumsy strategy, he was shocked to see Pei Yan reach out with his mechanical hand, the palm opening up, revealing a striking amber-like stream of blood slowly trickling from the wound, gathering into a small blood ball above Pei Yan’s palm. Feeling the familiar bloodline aura emanating from the wound, the Vlad brothers were once again rendered speechless in shock.
