Chapter 1406: Chapter 1406: End of the Battle

Pei Yan mercilessly ridiculed the delirious Delacuri. He had many enemies, from the early days of Li Songtao and Mu Fanchen to Shitang Longsi, Bai Ze, and Nero. These people had all exerted pressure on Pei Yan and even threatened his life, but none could compare to Delacuri. He and his family were like a mountain weighing on Pei Yan’s heart, constantly reminding him of his unavenged vengeance, the friends he needed to rescue, and the constant threat his family faced from this clan.

Delacuri’s past achievements filled Pei Yan with fear, and under pressure, he became increasingly extreme, to the point where his way of dealing with matters even began to resemble this enemy of his, forcing anyone who wished to provoke him to consider whether they could bear Pei Yan’s retaliation. To bring this infamy to its peak, the best way was to completely destroy this mountainous burden.

In this moment, Pei Yan was equally at the brink of madness, venting the pressure that the Vlad family had imposed on him. This atmosphere also affected Hu Jiu, provoking his dormant bloodthirsty instincts. The two of them were like lions that had captured their prey, not in a hurry to kill but playing with the prey’s nerves, inflicting sufficient pain until the moment of utter despair and then biting off its throat.

Unfortunately, their opponent was not an ordinary prey, but a strong entity that had long occupied the top of the food chain. In the final moment, he could allow himself to fail and die but never be humiliated by an enemy. As Delacuri gradually lost the ability to resist, he struggled against the two’s pincer attack. After silently destroying part of his critical memories within his blood and consciousness, he did not resist their assault anymore and instead placed a hand on his chest.

"Retreat!" Pei Yan sharply sensed the changes in Delacuri’s body and decisively ordered a retreat. However, unlike his rationality, Hu Jiu, immersed in this desire for attack and killing, failed to restrain his hand. Seeing this, Pei Yan couldn’t care much else, kicking Hu Jiu in the flank and sending him flying several meters away before swiftly grabbing his waist and rushing outward.

"Uh~ah~ah~!"

Boom!

After Delacuri’s resolute cry, a loud boom resounded, as if a layer of blood-red shrouded the world. A surging wave of blood erupted from Delacuri’s body. Pei Yan and Hu Jiu retreated just a bit too slowly, and were swept up by the wave. Hu Jiu, fortunately sheltered by Pei Yan, only got a few drops of blood on his face, but Pei Yan had the misfortune of having his back splattered with numerous bloodstains.

Feeling the searing pain on his cheek, Hu Jiu knew something was amiss. Just as he was about to use his self-healing ability to heal the wound, Pei Yan pressed him down, then with a blade formed from energy, sliced the skin where blood was on Hu Jiu, cutting away a large piece of flesh. He then kicked the fallen skin away and incinerated it with a blazing flame.

"Now heal! Remember, when facing experts of the Blood Race, be cautious of every drop of blood they release. The life force within you is the best nourishment for their blood magic. If you don’t cleanse the contaminated parts and activate your self-healing, that damn thing will instantly spread, covering you entirely and sucking your blood." Recalling the battle just moments ago, Pei Yan admonished Hu Jiu, whose face was still streaked with blood.

Hu Jiu nodded appreciatively and looked at Pei Yan. Sure enough, Pei Yan too severed the part of his mecha stained with blood, discarding and destroying it, then released a high-temperature flame, disinfecting every blood-stained spot. "This was Delacuri’s last desperate attack, containing the devouring power and various blood magic toxins. If we’d been more contaminated, it would be tough to thoroughly clean it off. Surviving it would be shedding a layer of skin! "

"So is it over now? Is he really dead?" As Hu Jiu’s words came out, the cut wound began to grow new flesh and gradually healed. Rubbing the newly healed jaw and wiping blood from his body, Hu Jiu asked with lingering fear.

"Dead! Completely dead! I can feel that his life force has utterly vanished this time. But the matter isn’t over yet." At this point, Pei Yan paused, sending a message beyond the isolated space. Once he finished communicating, he exhaled in relief, conjured a chair, and collapsed into it. He unfastened his helmet and fished out a cigarette, lighting it up. Only after exhaling the first puff of smoke did he speak in a weary tone, a wry smile playing on his lips. "What remains isn’t our concern. Dealing with souls isn’t our forte! We’ll rely on the external help we summoned to capture his soul."

With that said, Pei Yan sat alongside Hu Jiu, who also conjured a chair, and they stared at the empty battlefield ruins, waiting for the final results. Just as Pei Yan reached for another cigarette from the pack, Hu Jiu nudged him with an elbow. Pei Yan looked up to see a vague figure emerging from the ground.

"Uh, is that Delacuri?" Hu Jiu asked, looking at the indistinct shadow, uncertain of its appearance.

"Hiss! Not sure!" Pei Yan squinted, staring for a while but still unsure, groaning in frustration. "I’ve killed several people here; surely, they wouldn’t gather the wrong soul? Why can’t I feel Delacuri’s presence in him?"

Just as Pei Yan finished speaking, another shadow drifted out from the ground, soon followed by yet another. When the fourth shadow emerged, Pei Yan and Hu Jiu instantly recognized him without needing a word.

Delacuri! Even in death, his gathered soul was more sinister and terrifying than others. The moment he appeared, the resentment he emitted caused the surrounding air to chill. The three shadows that appeared before him dared not stand before him, shrinking back as if oppressed.

"Pei Yan! You really went to great lengths for me! I couldn’t even shatter my own soul!" Delacuri’s soul shadow glared at Pei Yan, gritting his teeth in vexation.

"Hehehe! I was prepared for that move! If your soul scattered, where would I track down your family’s remnants? I specially borrowed a Divine Artifact from the Immortal Palace and set it in this isolated space. Anyone who dies within its coverage, no matter how they try to destroy or resist, their soul can’t be completely obliterated and will ultimately be repaired and imprisoned within the artifact."
