Chapter 1350: Chapter 1350: The Thunder of a Hundred Cannons

"It’s fine. I may not be a pure controller of electromagnetism, but I’ve used it no less time than you. I’ve long since adapted to this ability. Once you get my signal, just unleash your power on me, and leave the rest to my control." As Pei Yan finished speaking, his body began to emit a dazzling blue radiance. Streams of current coursed through him and into the gun emplacements to his left and right, and one turret after another started to accumulate blinding light.

At this moment, Wangchaizong’s attention was no longer on the battlefield. He stared fixedly at Pei Yan in midair, wanting to see what he was going to do. Pei Yan’s abnormal state had also, without doubt, drawn the notice of the White Deer Institute Inner Courtyard Disciples and the Six Guards soldiers. Quite a few people stopped what they were doing and looked toward him. They clearly weren’t standing on those bizarre mechanical devices, yet for some reason they felt a suffocating pressure like standing at the very pinnacle of the Heavenly Dao. A gnawing, uneasy palpitation crawled into their hearts and refused to disperse.

Boom!

When the blue light of the lowest-tier electromagnetic artillery platforms flared to its peak, a single, uniform, deafening cannonade tore through the entire field. In that instant, it was as if time itself had been frozen. Hundreds of streaks of blinding blue light sliced across the sky, and wherever they passed the shockwaves rose like crashing mountains and surging seas, blasting away everything nearby. The sonic booms split the air; those who hadn’t had time to mobilize their source energy for protection were directly shaken until blood poured from their mouths and noses, their heads swam, and they collapsed in agony.

Thud!

The first to suffer were the two evil dragons that just happened to be in the line of fire. Unlike the other Cultivators, these dead things whose wills were controlled by others were ultimately a notch slower at sensing danger. When the other Heavenly Dao pinnacle experts had already detected the imminent threat and completed their evasive maneuvers in advance, these two evil dragons only realized what was happening when it was already too late. Their massive bodies turned them into perfect targets; after a series of violent explosions blasted along their bodies, the black and white pair of evil dragons let out muffled grunts and were hurled aside by the force of the blasts.

And behind them lay the true target of the barrage—the White Deer Institute Inner Courtyard defensive walls. In a single instant, under the horrified gazes of the crowd, the outer side of those Inner Courtyard walls seemed to be struck by countless meteors from beyond the heavens, and in the roar of the shelling turned into a sea of fire. The Devouring Demon, famed for its vitality and Defense Power, stood there like a herd of helpless lambs, trapped in a killing ground where they could neither advance nor retreat. Under the violent shockwaves of the explosions, their bodies were torn apart on the spot, shredded remains blasted into the air, fragments flying everywhere.

The residual force of the bombardment blasted open jagged cracks in the defensive walls constructed along the Inner Mountain Protection Array. The White Deer Institute Disciples responsible for maintaining the Array all had their seven orifices shaken into bleeding by the power of this strike, fainting one after another from exhaustion. The other Disciples at the side who were supposed to take over forgot their duties entirely. Faced with the Array that was on the verge of shattering, they stood there like souls lost, muttering stupidly, stunned and at a complete loss. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

"Th-this... is this some kind of Forbidden Technique? Wh-why did a Forbidden Technique with such terrifying power show no sign at all beforehand?" The elder responsible for guarding the Inner Courtyard outer walls of the White Deer Institute voiced the question in everyone’s hearts as he faced this world-ending strike.

"It’s fine! It’s fine! An attack of this magnitude—he can’t possibly unleash it a second time right away! Even if he can, he’ll need time to build it up! Quick! Don’t just stand there, move! Repair the Array immediately, cast spells to reinforce the walls and brace for the second wave! The Space Passage is about to finish activation—we just have to endure this stretch and we can withdraw!" As an elder of a Sect, his experience and reaction far surpassed those of ordinary Disciples. He recovered from his shock in short order, knowing that right now every second was precious. He had no time to care about anything else and immediately steeled himself, urgently driving the Disciples who were still rooted to the spot, stunned by the earlier attack, to throw themselves into what they ought to be doing.

Yet his words had no effect at all. Every Disciple still stood there, faces blank, gazes filled with despair and numbness as they stared into the distance. At this moment, the White Deer Institute elder seemed to understand something. With a heart full of disbelief, he slowly turned his body, looking toward the place all the Disciples were staring at.

"Heh heh heh... heh heh heh... H-how is this possible!" The elder stood there like a statue, the corner of his mouth twitching. In his despairing eyes, a bitter laugh leaked out uncontrollably.

That row of pitch-black gun ports that now made all who saw them quake in their hearts had once more lit up with that eerie blue radiance that called for human lives!

Boom!

Another perfectly synchronized cannonade thundered forth. Under the reverent, terrified gazes of all present, the city wall that had already been on the verge of collapse from the previous round of attacks, in this instant was like a sheet of fragile window paper, effortlessly torn to tatters by a raging hurricane. With the roar of the shells, the air was ripped apart, the earth trembled. The Anti-Air Array the White Deer Institute had set up to prevent attackers from flying over the walls instead became their own Disciples’ Life-taking Talisman. Unable to take to the sky and flee, the Outer Courtyard and Inner Courtyard Disciples turned into wandering souls under the shellfire. These people who could have fought a bloody battle against the Six Guards soldiers were instead utterly powerless, swallowed whole by the barrage. The source energy Protective Array flaring around their bodies could not protect their lives; it only magnified their torment, letting them cling to life after the first wave of explosions, then carry their pain and despair straight into the next shell that blasted them into the heavens.

In this battle, they could be said to have been granted release. Those still alive would continue to endure the torture of despair!

Because the White Deer Institute elders and Disciples who had just struggled up from the ruins, still dazed and not yet recovered, discovered that yet another row of gun ports had lit up with that deadly, dazzling blue light.

Three hundred electromagnetic cannons was the limit of what Pei Yan could manifest. He divided them into upper, middle, and lower rows, evenly arrayed to his left and right. To pursue continuous bombardment, he didn’t choose to fire all three hundred cannons at once, but instead had one row of one hundred fire in turn. Even so, the devastation caused was enough to sweep the entire field.

"Retreat! Fall back! Everyone, retreat toward the Space Transmission Array. All Vegetarian Leaders and scripture-teaching elders of the sect, step forward—bring out the Divine Artifacts, and jointly lay down an Array to hold back the enemy." The surviving elders of the White Deer Institute understood that to deal with this kind of attack, you either killed the attacker outright, or you had conditions like the Six Guards Army—highly trained, relying on a massive number of soldiers and sect experts to supply the Protective Array with a ceaseless stream of source energy. Only then was there any hope of withstanding such shelling.

They themselves did not possess the conditions of the Six Guards Army, and they were incapable of dealing with Pei Yan—he was currently within the ranks of the Six Guards Army. Even if they wanted to unleash a Forbidden Technique with power comparable to his attack as retaliation, that would require preparation time. None of them could launch strike after strike in endless succession the way Pei Yan was doing.

Boom!

The third barrage detonated amidst the curses of the White Deer Institute elders. This time, Pei Yan’s artillery fire surged past the outer walls that had already been reduced to ruins, extending inward. The White Deer Institute Disciples who were still in rout were turned to ash in the shellfire. Yet to Pei Yan’s surprise, those White Deer Institute high-level members who had managed to regain their composure in the chaos actually stabilized their lines once again. Under the bombardment, a wall of light where yellow and blue intertwined rose up as the final line of defense, forcibly blocking the onslaught of the shells.

"Divine Artifact?"
