Chapter 158/A Twisted Practical Test
Chapter 158: 158/A Twisted Practical Test
Chapter 158
Stephanie’s point of view
I ground my teeth in raging fury and shouted in his face: "And what else do you call it then, for heaven’s sake, you arrogant, narcissistic genius?!"
He replied with utter calmness, coldness, and disregard for my feelings: "That behavior in the restroom... was simply a test."
My eyes widened in sheer astonishment, and I said in disbelief: "A test?!"
He nodded his head with excessive confidence and vanity: "Yes, I was merely testing you in a practical way, to see if you were indeed trying to seduce me and catch my attention with your spontaneous and innocent plays at the office."
I said in a panting voice, broken from the sheer intensity of oppression and injustice: "Are you truly a madman?! Do you possess a human mind that thinks like humans?!"
He said, his eyes narrowing with a deathly coldness: "In my company, I do not like to retain female employees who fall in love with me and become attached to my person; it is a difficult matter that is hard to handle and ruins the work environment."
I screamed in intense fury: "And have I fallen in love with you to say this absurd, ridiculous, and disgusting nonsense about me?! I despise you!"
He replied, his eyes gleaming with deep-seated cunning: "That is exactly the reason for my conducting that test in the restroom... to cut through doubt with certainty regarding your glances."
I said with biting sarcasm: "You need a psychiatrist urgently to treat this pathological and incurable narcissism of yours."
His stern features suddenly stiffened, and he spoke with a sharp hiss like snakes: "Respect your boundaries and your position well when you speak with your boss."
I said with strength and boldness, raising my index finger in defiance directly in his face: "But you are not my boss after this cursed moment... I resign immediately, with no return!"
A mocking, confident, and dark smile etched onto his lips, and he said with terrifying certainty: "Have you forgotten my threats so quickly? You cannot work in any other competing company after leaving mine, and on my terms."
I raised my chin with pride and dignity, armed with my husband’s title, and said: "And you forgot that I am the wife of Alexander Volkov, and he is capable of crushing your rules and protecting me from you."
He fell silent for a full second, contemplating the contours of my face with a mysterious, ambiguous look, then said with a provocative calmness: "Well... in truth, I did not really expect or did my mind imagine that you would be his wife... and even though he is my close childhood friend, this absolutely does not mean that the rules of work and my laws will change or bend for you in particular."
I took an additional, reckless step to stand directly in front of him without fear, and said in a stern defiance: "And how exactly will you explain to your close friend Alexander that you insulted me and kissed me against my will and by force?"
He replied with a provocative composure that provoked a desire to kill: "I did not kiss you out of desire... I already told you for the last time, it was merely a test."
I said in a biting and mocking tone: "Yes... a genius test! Go on then, for heaven’s sake, tell me how you will explain this genius viewpoint of yours to him?"
He shrugged his broad shoulders with utter indifference and said with an overwhelming confidence that stirred apprehension: "He won’t know anything of this to begin with, so I see no reason to explain anything to him or justify my action."
I said with a decisive and clear threat: "And what if I go right now and tell him myself everything that happened and the details of what took place in the restroom?"
He fixed his sharp blue eyes into mine with focus, and spoke with a terrifying certainty: "You will never do that."
I said, my eyes defying him with oppression and fury: "I will do it, and at the earliest time... and you will see the result of your arrogance!"
He sufficed with watching me in silence and said coldly: "Well... we will see which of us will triumph in the end."
I completely lost my patience and felt suffocated, so I pushed him powerfully away from the car door with both hands and said: "Get away from my car now... I am leaving here indeed, and you won’t see me again!"
He did not move a single inch from his place and his massive frame; instead, he said in a low, masculine voice carrying an undertone of mystery: "You forgot that tonight I am carrying something very important that belongs to you and concerns your life."
I turned to him with sharp distress: "What do you mean by this? What are you carrying?"
His large hand extended to very deliberately pull something hidden from the pocket of his long black coat; the black phone screen gleamed under the lighting of the streetlamp posts.
My eyes widened in astonishment and eagerness, and I said impulsively: "My phone!"
He said as he flipped it slowly between his long fingers, provoking my nerves: "Yes... you forgot it on the table at the restaurant, Mrs. Volkov."
I extended my palm in a blind impulse to snatch it: "Give it to me immediately!"
He looked at the locked phone screen, then directed his gaze at me with focus, saying in a low tone carrying an ambiguous and dangerous menace: "I truly did not know, Miss Miller, that you were hiding dangerous secrets."
I screamed in a suppressed panic that permeated my insides: "Stop this nonsense, absurdity, and interference in my affairs... come on, give me the phone immediately!"
He drew his hand back with agility and grace, saying, his eyes gleaming with amusement: "Come and take it yourself if you can."
I approached him with intense agitation and extended my hand powerfully to snatch it from his palm, but in the blink of an eye and due to his agility, he raised his hand high in the air, exploiting the vast, massive height difference between us.
I said with resentment, oppression, and a helplessness that destroyed my pride: "Stop these cursed, disgusting, and childish actions!"
He replied with cold provocation: "Come on... take it and try your luck if you can reach this height."
