On a Stormy Night, the Campus Belle Knocked on My Door Seeking Shelter
Chapter 138: A Weakened Chen Mo
In a daze, he heard a knock at the door. Chen Mo weakly picked up the phone beside him and glanced at it.
It was already 8:00 AM.
Su Yuqing, following her usual habit, had gotten up early to tidy up and make breakfast.
However, she noticed that Chen Mo, who was usually up by seven at the latest, hadn’t made a single sound today. Curious, she came over and knocked once.
Since it was the weekend, she figured he might be sleeping in, so she just knocked lightly and called out his name. Seeing no response, she went back to what she was doing.
By half past seven, breakfast had been ready for nearly thirty minutes, but Chen Mo still wasn’t up, so she came to knock again.
This time, there was still no answer from inside.
At this point, Su Yuqing was starting to get a little worried.
She had no appetite for breakfast, deciding that if Chen Mo still hadn’t responded in another half hour, she would use the spare key to open his door directly.
Chen Mo had told her where the spare key was.
So, when eight o’clock arrived, she came to knock again. Still hearing no response, she decided to use the spare key to open the door.
Back in the room, Chen Mo looked at the time and realized his mind was muddled from a fever. He didn’t want to move in the slightest, so he just kept lying down.
Soon, with a CLICK, the door was unlocked from the outside with a key.
In fact, Chen Mo’s door wasn’t locked at all.
Su Yuqing could have just turned the handle and come right in.
After coming in, Su Yuqing saw Chen Mo lying on the bed, his eyes still closed. She immediately walked over at a gentle pace.
"Chen Mo..."
she called out softly and gently.
"Mmm..." Chen Mo responded weakly.
It wasn’t that Chen Mo had never caught a cold before, but he felt this one seemed a little more severe than usual.
He wondered if some bacteria in the lake water he’d choked on yesterday had worsened his condition.
"Time to get up and eat. Is there somewhere you don’t feel well?" Su Yuqing knelt by Chen Mo’s bedside, gently patting the blanket on his chest as she asked in a soft voice.
"I... COUGH COUGH... I think I’ve caught a cold. You should leave. I don’t want to get you sick," Chen Mo said, forcing the words out in a hoarse voice and suppressing the pain in his throat.
This immediately made Su Yuqing tense up. She quickly reached out to feel Chen Mo’s forehead, only to find it was burning hot.
"You’re burning up! You have a really high fever. We can’t let this go on, let’s go to the hospital," Su Yuqing said, her voice laced with anxiety.
At this point, Chen Mo had no desire to move an inch. He refused, saying, "No need... COUGH COUGH... I’m pretty tough, I can get through it. COUGH... Besides, I don’t really want to move right now."
He was the type who rarely went to the hospital; he couldn’t stand the smell. He had always powered through his colds by himself. Only when he was seriously injured after a fight with criminals would he have no choice but to go.
"Then you just hang in there. I’ll go out and buy you some medicine right now!" Seeing that Chen Mo didn’t want to move, Su Yuqing indulged him and immediately switched plans.
Chen Mo had no intention of stopping her, but suddenly, a scene of Su Yuqing being murdered flashed rapidly before his eyes.
Startled, he shot out a hand and grabbed Su Yuqing, who had just stood up to leave.
"Wait! COUGH COUGH COUGH..." After grabbing Su Yuqing, Chen Mo couldn’t say another word before he was wracked by a violent coughing fit.
"The house... We have medicine here, in the TV cabinet. You don’t have to go out." Terrified that Su Yuqing might run into danger, Chen Mo didn’t dare let her leave on her own.
Hearing this, Su Yuqing turned back with a gentle smile and patted the back of his hand. "Okay, I’ll go get it for you right now."
After speaking, she helped Chen Mo, who had sat bolt upright in his alarm, lie back down. She pulled the blanket over him and gave it a gentle pat before getting up and heading to the living room to find the cold medicine under the TV cabinet.
After quickly checking the expiration dates and reading the instructions on the medicines, she measured out a single dose for Chen Mo.
She then put the pills in a small bowl and returned, carrying a glass of warm water.
"You can take these few before eating. Take the medicine first, then have some breakfast."
Chen Mo was extremely weak at this point, and like an obedient child, he let Su Yuqing handle everything.
Su Yuqing had rarely seen Chen Mo in such a weakened state, but she found this version of him to be surprisingly adorable.
He obediently did whatever she said, his responses were just mumbles and grunts, making him seem just like a little kid.
"COUGH... I don’t want to eat breakfast..." Chen Mo tried to refuse.
He had absolutely no appetite at the moment.
"No, you can’t. You’re already sick, your body needs nutrients. How can you skip breakfast? Just you wait, I’ll go make a breakfast that’s perfect for someone with a cold.
You just lie back down like a good boy and get some more sleep. I’ll come get you when it’s ready."
Su Yuqing coaxed Chen Mo as if she were soothing a child, her tone and movements filled with tenderness and affection.
Chen Mo found it impossible to refuse again and could only nod vaguely.
Seeing this, Su Yuqing smiled and left.
On the bed, Chen Mo could only feel the discomfort in his throat. ’There’s no way my constitution is weak enough for a common cold to hit me this hard.’
’It must be an infection from last night’s lake water.’
’If this continues, I’m afraid a trip to the hospital will be unavoidable.’
But at this moment, he truly didn’t want to move at all.
Never mind going out; he felt exhausted just lifting a single finger.
He just curled up under the blanket Su Yuqing had tucked around him and drowsily closed his eyes.
He wasn’t sure how long had passed before the aroma of oats and milk suddenly entered his nostrils.
It was Su Yuqing, who had returned with the special breakfast she had made for him with love.
Taking his cold into consideration, Su Yuqing had prepared a small bowl of oatmeal, some light side dishes, two steamed custard buns, and a boiled egg with the yolk removed, leaving only the egg white.
She had just looked it up and found that eating egg yolks could be hard to digest for someone with a cold.
"Chen Mo, come on, sit up and have some breakfast."
Su Yuqing gently woke the half-asleep Chen Mo, helped him sit up against the headboard, and thoughtfully placed a throw pillow behind his back for support. At the same time, she brought over a small folding table.
The small table was originally meant for using a laptop in bed, but now it served perfectly as a place to put the breakfast tray.
After placing the tray on the small table, she picked up the spoon, looked at Chen Mo, and said, "You don’t look well. Why don’t I feed you?"
Without waiting for Chen Mo to answer, Su Yuqing scooped up a spoonful of the soft-cooked oatmeal, blew on it lightly to cool it down, then brought the spoon to his lips, cupping her other hand underneath.
This suddenly made Chen Mo a little embarrassed. Other than when his grandmother had cared for him as a child, this was the first time he had ever been so weak in front of someone else.
