Chapter 522: Safe House

Kui Yi sucked in a cold breath. He knew Cao Yang was quite astute, so why was he being so obtuse at a moment like this? Was he scared witless by the ghost?

“We’ll look for her.” Jiang Cheng turned to leave.

“Wait.” Cao Yang stopped him. “What about Director Qi?”

A trembling figure exited the room. “Don’t leave me behind. I’ll give you a lot of money.” Director Qi’s state was miserable. His eyes were bloodshot, and he was covered in wounds. They looked like rope marks.

Kui Yi realised Jiang Cheng really cared about Miss Lin; otherwise, he wouldn’t have forgotten about Director Qi. Cao Yang explained the rest of the story. After the ghost went to chase after Lin Wan ‘Er, he and Yu Yu went into hiding with Director Qi. They didn’t go far. They merely hid in a nearby room.

After a period of silence, Yu Yu suggested that they go find the others. Cao Yang insisted on staying behind. After all, they couldn’t go far with a burden as large as Director Qi. If Jiang Cheng and Kui Yi didn’t die, they’d return to find them. Therefore, the two argued. In the end, Yu Yu decided to venture out on her own. “However, she encountered the ghost soon after. Then, she was captured.” Cao Yang looked sad, but everyone knew he was insincere. Everyone was equal before the ghosts. People with doors could struggle for a little longer, but once a normal person did something wrong, they’d die.

Jiang Cheng was not interested in Yu Yu’s death. He just wanted to confirm Lin Wan ‘Er’s safety. If something happened to her, he’d yank Wu out of his body to slice off the ghost’s heads one after another. He believed Wu could do that… provided that the conditions were right.

“Mr Deep… Mr Jiang, we mustn’t wander about,” Kui Yi offered. Jiang Cheng wasn’t thinking straight. He was worried. After all, the ghost was still patrolling the hospital. Kui Yi didn’t think Lin Wan ‘Er was still alive. However, he didn’t dare to extinguish Jiang Cheng’s hope. He had seen how terrifying a despairing door-holder could be.

If the thing inside Jiang Cheng’s door came out… Kui Yi glanced at Jiang Cheng’s shadow, and he swallowed. Everyone would die.

“Go to Room 906,” Jiang Cheng ordered coolly. Kui Yi sighed in relief. If there were a unique location at the hospital, it had to be Room 906. The mad nurse who lived there was one of the original survivors.

At that point, Kui Yi turned to slap Director Qi. If the man had controlled his genitals, they wouldn’t end up like this.

They didn’t hear anything along the way. It felt like both Lin Wan ‘Er and the ghost had disappeared. This was not a good thing.

As they reached the ninth floor, they realised the door to Room 906 was left open. From a distance, they could see that the lights inside were on.

“Is this a trap?” Director Qi was scared, but everyone ignored him.

“It doesn’t look like it.” Cao Yang stared at the door. “This is too obvious if it’s a trap. Is there something special about this room?”

“It’s a safe house,” Kui Yi immediately explained.

“What do you mean?” Cao Yang turned to Kui Yi. He really needed safety.

“Do you remember?” Kui Yi said excitedly. “The mad nurse has been staying in Room 906, but no harm came to her. Perhaps our guesses were wrong. The ghost didn’t mean to keep her alive, but the ghost couldn’t kill people inside Room 906!”

As if in reaction, a wiggling figure appeared at the door. She was covered in dirt. It was the mad nurse!

She probably heard the commotion outside and crawled over to see. When she saw Jiang Cheng’s group, her eyes lit up.

“It’s really a safe house!” Kui Yi exclaimed. Then, they ran to Room 906. Kui Yi was surprised to find that the dying Director Qi ran quicker than they did.

“Stop!” As Jiang Cheng shouted, everyone froze. Director Qi was less than 10 metres from the door. He could see the nurse’s expression clearly.

“What’s wrong?” Cao Yang asked between gasps.

Jiang Cheng pushed him away and moved to pull Director Qi back. Kui Yi instantly realised something. He also stepped back and looked around alertly.

The only person who remained the same was the nurse. She lay on the floor with her hair over her face. She looked at peace. Gentle light washed out of the room.

“The shadow,” Jiang Cheng whispered.

Kui Yi instantly checked Jiang Cheng’s shadow on the wall. Influenced by him, Cao Yang and Director Qi did the same.

“I mean her shadow,” Jiang Cheng frowned. “Why are you looking at my shadow?”

“Right.” Kui Yi nodded. His body reacted naturally. Cao Yang’s eyes froze. Because of the lights in the room, the mad nurse cast a clear shadow on the wall. However, the mad nurse was on the floor. How could she have left a shadow on the wall?

As if discovered, the mad nurse’s fuzzy eyes focused with resentment.

In their eyes, the nurse’s shadow on the wall started to change. It slowly stood up…

Kui Yi’s eyes trembled. A clear shadow appeared. The person was rotund with balls around its shoulders.

“The fuck!” Kui Yi’s brain numbed. “This is so cunning!”

Director Qi was the first to run.

Heavy footsteps followed them. Cao Yang tried to look back. It almost cost him his soul.

The ghost’s single arm had absorbed the mad nurse.

The mad nurse only had her upper body left. It looked like she grew out of the ghost’s torso. As the ghost chased after them, the nurse’s two arms kept flailing.
