Nightmare Apostle
Chapter 2143 - 1175: Injustice_8
"Thank you, and also, I’d like to have a chat with that person, alone, that Sun Fendou." Yang Xiao tilted his head towards the small room where Sun Fendou was being held.
"Sure, I’ve already found the file on that case. It’s on my office desk, you can take a look. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me."
Chief Zhou was a very efficient person, didn’t waste any words. After returning to the office, he sent everyone in the room to other rooms, leaving only Yang Xiao and Sun Fendou in the small room.
Of course, there was also Ye Zheng, while Sun Fendou was tied to a chair with his hands bound behind him, visibly agitated and frightened.
Seeing Sun Fendou’s pathetic state, Yang Xiao couldn’t help but remark sarcastically on the rough investigative methods of this era.
Yang Xiao sat in a chair not far in front of Sun Fendou, ignoring him completely, flipping through the file page by page, also exerting psychological pressure on Sun Fendou.
In terms of interrogation, Yang Xiao was the expert, especially here in Nightmare World. If it were outside, no one would refuse to confess under his watch; even the dead would speak.
By reading the file, Yang Xiao understood the basic details of the incident.
The incident happened 9 years ago, the case wasn’t complicated. At that time, a female worker was attacked on her way home from a night shift in the factory, struck on the back of the head with a hammer.
Someone heard her scream and came to check. Those who arrived saw a shadowy figure running in the distance, but it disappeared in a flash.
Luckily, they arrived in time, which bought some time for rescue. The female worker was seriously injured but thankfully survived.
However, due to severe brain trauma, this female worker couldn’t recall any valuable clues.
The security in the factory had always been good, but this vicious incident drew significant attention from the factory leaders, who assigned the joint defense team to handle it. Everyone was determined to bring the perpetrator to justice.
With many young people in the factory, rumors spread wildly, leading many female workers to fear walking at night, even avoiding night shifts, which greatly affected the factory’s work schedule.
As a result, the higher-ups delivered a strict order, pressuring the factory’s joint defense team to solve the case within a specified time, identify the real culprit, and bring them to justice.
No one expected that just a week later, that brutal perpetrator struck again, this time targeting a female worker in need at night, on a relatively wide roadside.
Just as the female worker was pulling up her pants, she heard rapid footsteps behind her, followed by a cold wind, then a blow to the back of her head knocked her to the ground.
But she was clever, after getting hit, she immediately lay down and pretended to be dead.
The perpetrator, also careless, did not finish her off, and tried to quickly drag her to a nearby dark area, being on the roadside.
And while the perpetrator was pulling her, the woman suddenly sprang up, striking the perpetrator fiercely, catching him off guard.
Taking the perpetrator by surprise, she shoved him down and ran towards the factory, shouting for help.
The perpetrator, seeing things were going wrong, dared not chase her, and instead ducked into nearby bushes, fleeing in a panic.
Last time there were no witnesses, but this time there were. The factory’s joint defense team immediately protected the woman and carefully questioned her.
After reviewing the case, the joint defense team obtained several valuable clues.
First, based on the woman’s account, the perpetrator was a man but not very strong, otherwise he wouldn’t have been easily pushed over, and not very tall, only slightly taller than the woman.
Second, through a scene investigation, the joint defense team extracted several shoe prints from the vicinity of the crime scene in the weeds.
These shoe prints matched the factory-issued work shoes, but this pair was different, given to only a few special workshops, featuring a metal sheet covering the upper for special protection.
Third, from analyzing the second perpetrator’s shoe prints and the testimony of the first rescue witness, the joint defense team deduced that the perpetrator fled in the direction of the factory’s northwest, likely his residence.
And those residing there included several single worker dormitories, two rows of bungalows, and a few old-style courtyards for some factory leaders and their families.
The fourth, and most crucial point, was that according to the second assaulted female worker’s memory, she grabbed the perpetrator’s hand during their struggle.
Man, not strong, medium height, wearing those special workshop’s metal shoes, with a residence pinpointed in the factory’s northwest, and possibly had scratch marks on his hand.
Combining all this information, the next step was screening.
Soon, the joint defense team members identified a few suspicious individuals, and as the investigation deepened, each suspicious person was ruled out, leaving just one, Zhou Wenqing.
He wasn’t tall or strong, a quiet man, focusing on work with little speech, unfamiliar with factory workers, naturally lacking friends.
He worked in workshop 2, which had high-risk levels, and was issued a pair of metal shoes. Coincidentally, when the joint defense team found him, his metal shoes were very new, clearly recently brushed.
He lived in the bungalows at the factory’s northwest corner, the last edge one.
Additionally, most importantly, he had a wound on the back of his left hand, a fresh injury, only recently scabbed over.
So, based on these clues, they identified Zhou Wenqing as the prime suspect in these two heinous assault cases and arrested him overnight, organizing personnel for a swift interrogation.
