The information had also finally reached Orochimaru’s main hideout.
Kabuto approached Orochimaru in a room with a scroll in hand, while the former member of Konoha’s Three Sannin worked on a body in front of him, his own body growing weaker and weaker, making it impossible for him to remain in it for much longer.
Over the past few weeks, the situation had deteriorated rapidly, and Kabuto would not be surprised if Orochimaru ended up bedridden within a week. That body was reaching its limit, the shell had already practically lost its value and, soon, he would have to move on to the next one, which was none other than Sasuke Uchiha.
The current information did nothing to help that situation either. Kabuto approached carrying a scroll from Konoha, sent by one of the Root members who had managed to transmit a report about what had happened at another laboratory, while one of Orochimaru’s subordinates had brought it to them. Root had information on some of the bases, but not on the main base where Orochimaru and his primary assets, Kabuto and Sasuke, were located.
Orochimaru remained one of Danzou’s external contacts, despite the extremely strange relationship between the two. Danzou had sent assassins to kill Sasuke Uchiha some time ago, but, at the same time, he and Orochimaru remained in contact due to the interests they shared in certain areas of research, always seeking better results for their experiments.
In any case, the information that Danzou had fallen in Konoha had reached them, along with a warning that some of Orochimaru’s old laboratories might end up being discovered if Konoha continued to deepen its investigations into Root and the information Danzou’s organization possessed. There was also a request for Orochimaru to find some way to save Danzou, who was currently being held prisoner.
There was no detailed information in that report about Danzou’s eyes and powers, something that was perhaps better for Danzou himself. If Orochimaru knew that Danzou had possessed a Sharingan with an ability powerful enough to alter even a person’s deepest convictions, practically turning them into a slave of whoever used that eye, he would certainly be fascinated by the possibility of getting his hands on it while, at the same time, remaining very cautious...
Orochimaru finally noticed Kabuto approaching with the scroll. "What is it, Kabuto?" he asked, stopping his work on the body in front of him as he began coughing behind his surgical mask.
"Information from Konoha. I think you should read this personally before I say anything."
Kabuto’s serious tone immediately made Orochimaru realize that this would not be good news. He stepped away from the body, removed his mask and gloves before washing his hands, then approached Kabuto and took the scroll. He began reading silently, but as he went through the information, his smile grew wider and wider...
Orochimaru couldn’t help but frown when he finished. Danzou wanted his help, needed him at that moment, but Orochimaru was currently unavailable for something of that magnitude.
Even so, he couldn’t help but smile with a certain amusement as he began to read. He knew that many of his old laboratories in Konoha were probably being discovered at that very moment and that he would have to remove some research from there as quickly as possible, but, at the same time, he couldn’t help but look critically at Danzou’s situation.
The fool had been caught and one of the first things he did was ask Orochimaru of all people for help. Despite the contacts they had maintained over the years, there had also been many disagreements and even threats between them, mainly because of Danzou’s insistence that Orochimaru hand over Sasuke Uchiha. To Danzou, the last Uchiha represented a threat to Konoha and should be eliminated as soon as possible, even going so far as to warn Orochimaru that one day he might end up being destroyed by Sasuke himself.
Orochimaru had never paid any attention to that warning. As if he couldn’t deal with a mere sixteen-year-old brat. He couldn’t imagine a scenario in which he failed to obtain Sasuke’s body and, within the next few weeks, he intended to finally take it for himself. Despite that, judging by his recent experiences, those sixteen-year-old teenagers seemed to be growing at a rather rapid and even frightening rate.
"Leave him. We’re not going to help him. He sent an agent to eliminate Sasuke-kun and now he wants our help?" Orochimaru said with a contemptuous smile.
"He can still be useful, Orochimaru-sama," Kabuto said, advising him.
Orochimaru couldn’t deny that. "Yes. If we could get Danzou out of Konoha and make use of him, he would certainly still be very useful to us. However, we currently don’t have the capability to do that, and it seems Konoha has become even more troublesome," he said, turning his eyes back to the scroll. "It says here that they now have a perfect jinchūriki. That makes the situation even more frightening."
"Naruto Uzumaki may end up becoming a problem for us," Kabuto warned.
That scroll was different from the information the Zetsus had managed to relay to the Akatsuki. Although it didn’t provide many details about the techniques Danzou had used during his battle against Konoha, it explained the capabilities demonstrated by their enemies much better and, most importantly, the changes in Naruto Uzumaki since his return to the Village. The report had been prepared by one of the Root members closest to Danzou, someone who was aware of a large portion of his investigations.
It was a kind of countermeasure Danzou had kept prepared, leaving a select few subordinates aware of what he was doing and investigating so that, if something like that happened, there would still be a possible escape route through sending information about his enemies to potential allies.
They might discover more about Danzou’s Sharingans later, but that wouldn’t happen at that moment. Orochimaru was immersed in his own thoughts as he analyzed the information about the changes in Naruto Uzumaki, a boy to whom he had never given that much importance.
To him, Naruto had never seemed particularly talented, and being a jinchūriki merely made him a troublesome existence, he was more like an object of amusement...
The boy had also always seemed insignificant when compared to his own father. In Orochimaru’s eyes, Naruto had never been anything close to Minato Namikaze, no matter how much Tsunade or even Jiraiya might shout otherwise.
But learning about Naruto’s changes, that he had changed his hair and was now displaying several abilities characteristic of the Uzumaki that not even Karin, an Uzumaki whom Orochimaru kept under his wing in one of his underground laboratories, possessed, was fascinating. Orochimaru already considered the abilities Karin displayed due to her lineage impressive, but Naruto seemed to be on a completely different level.
Naruto had demonstrated an enormous capacity to use the Adamantine Sealing Chains, something Karin couldn’t even do. The girl’s sensory and healing abilities were excellent, but Naruto seemed to take even those traits much further, according to Danzou’s agent’s own words.
"I assume the agent is still at one of the laboratories, waiting?" Orochimaru asked as he continued looking at the scroll.
"Yes. Root has fallen in Konoha. At this point, he has nowhere left to return to," Kabuto replied.
"Bring him here. Let me hear everything he has to say. I’m particularly interested in learning more about the Nine-Tails’ jinchūriki," Orochimaru said. If Naruto truly had control over the Fox now, he had become much more troublesome, but, at the same time, Orochimaru couldn’t help but look at that situation with enormous interest.
The Root agent arrived at the base 2 hours later and began recounting everything he had witnessed. Orochimaru couldn’t help but be fascinated as he listened to the changes Naruto Uzumaki had undergone in just one week, although he also realized that he would need to be much more careful with the boy from then on.
Somehow, Naruto had become extremely powerful and now even possessed the ability to share the Nine-Tails’ chakra with other people. Orochimaru couldn’t help but think that, even after obtaining Sasuke’s body, perhaps he wouldn’t be able to simply face Konoha however he wished if Naruto was capable of placing that chakra around an entire group of ninjas.
Even Kabuto frowned upon hearing that. He had never imagined that Naruto Uzumaki would develop an ability of that level, sharing the chakra of his own bijū while also possessing complete control over the Nine-Tailed Fox.
What kind of absurdity was that? Even though Kabuto had already suffered defeat at Naruto’s hands years ago, he had been extremely careless during that fight and, truthfully, had always considered Naruto a crude and untalented boy whose main advantage was possessing an enormous amount of chakra, far greater than that of most ninjas even when he was only twelve or thirteen years old.
"Give a copy of this to Sasuke-kun. I’m sure he’ll find it quite interesting," Orochimaru said with amusement.
He decided to keep that Root agent with him for the time being, since the man had nowhere else to return to. He was still completely loyal to Danzou and hoped that Orochimaru could save him, but, for now, he was dismissed without being allowed to leave the laboratory, and Orochimaru would have to kill him before he could give away any information about that place. Orochimaru remained in the laboratory with much to think about, even temporarily abandoning his research on the body he had been cutting open before Kabuto arrived.
Kabuto, with little choice, went to Sasuke’s room to deliver the report, but he didn’t find him there. He eventually located him in the training room, where Sasuke continued training intensely, covered in sweat and slightly out of breath.
"Who’s there?" Sasuke asked immediately, looking toward the entrance.
Kabuto hadn’t even fully opened the door, leaving only a small crack through which to observe the interior, but Sasuke immediately turned his eyes in his direction. Seeing that he had already been noticed, Kabuto opened the door and finally revealed himself with a smile.
"Hello, Sasuke-kun."
Sasuke said nothing as he watched Kabuto approach with a scroll in his hands, until he simply threw it in his direction and Sasuke caught it without difficulty.
"What is this?" Sasuke asked.
"Information from Konoha," Kabuto replied with a brief smile and tossed it to Sasuke.
Sasuke opened the scroll and began reading quickly, but it didn’t take long for him to frown as he went through the information. "Is this true?" he asked, turning his gaze back to Kabuto, as not even he could completely believe what he was reading.
Had Naruto really become that powerful since their last encounter? On that occasion, Sasuke had discovered the Nine-Tailed Fox itself inside Naruto, finally discovering what truly existed within him and gaining a better understanding of where all that power Naruto had unleashed in the Valley of the End during their last fight had come from, before they met again years later.
Now, however, the report said that Naruto had awakened powers related to his Uzumaki lineage, and Sasuke already had some idea of what that surname meant. Naruto didn’t belong to just any clan, something Sasuke had discovered not only through the information Orochimaru possessed, but also because of the Uzumaki he kept in one of his hideouts.
Karin was quite interested in Sasuke and always seemed happy whenever she had an opportunity to see him, causing her, little by little, to become one of the few people with whom he shared some information about his current plans, mainly because Sasuke intended to eliminate Orochimaru soon and knew that he might need useful people by his side afterward.
Karin had also told him a few things about her own abilities, so Sasuke couldn’t help but be surprised to discover that Naruto now possessed similar abilities and apparently even others that Karin had never demonstrated.
His eyes stopped for a few seconds on the part that mentioned the Adamantine Sealing Chains. Sasuke didn’t even know exactly what that technique did, but he would ask Karin the next time he saw her. She had never demonstrated anything like it, but, being an Uzumaki, perhaps she had some information about it.
Naruto’s ability to share the Nine-Tails’ chakra was equally problematic. For a brief moment, Sasuke even thought about how much stronger he could become by receiving that chakra, but he dismissed the idea almost immediately.
He would kill Itachi with his own hands and would hate having to share even part of the reason for his victory with someone else because he had received their help.
Not that he could simply show up at the Hidden Leaf Village and ask Naruto to give him that power, especially after having tried to kill him during their last battle.
Even so, Naruto no longer meant the same thing to him that he had back then. Sasuke had refused to kill him at the Valley of the End precisely because he didn’t want to follow the path Itachi had laid out for him to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, giving his brother the satisfaction of seeing him obtain those eyes exactly the way he had ordered.
"I see," was all Sasuke said before closing the scroll and tossing it back to Kabuto.
"Orochimaru-sama said we should be careful with Naruto from now on. We still don’t know the full extent of all these changes, and the report only contains what he has demonstrated so far, but that alone already shows that he’s on a completely different level than before," Kabuto said, adjusting his glasses before looking at Sasuke with a small smile. "He might even be stronger than you now, Sasuke."
Surprisingly, Sasuke merely shrugged. "Whatever," he replied curtly.
Kabuto nodded and left, but Sasuke remained standing there for some time, unable to stop himself from thinking and wondering what exactly had happened to Naruto.
That information showed that he had practically become a different person in terms of power, acquiring in just one week an even greater amount of chakra and abilities he had never demonstrated before.
Uzumaki lineage, Mokuton, Hiraishin, mastery of powerful water and wind elemental techniques... none of that matched the fighting style of the Naruto Sasuke knew, or even the Naruto he had encountered some time ago.
Not to mention the chakra of the Nine-Tailed Fox, which now seemed to be completely under his control. Naruto had become someone extremely powerful, to the point that even Sasuke wondered for a few moments whether he might already be stronger than Itachi himself at that moment.
In Konoha...
Meanwhile, Naruto was still dealing with the consequences of everything that had happened almost 2 days ago.
After Danzou’s fall, he didn’t even know what to think about those people anymore. For a brief moment, he had been pleased by the fact that almost no one properly recognized him after his return, due to his now-red hair and his face no longer having the whisker-like marks. He could walk peacefully through the Village and, even when he received a few suspicious looks, they were only looks from people who didn’t know who he was.
That, however, lasted very little. After everything that happened with Danzou, practically all of Konoha once again knew who he was, and the looks he received began to vary greatly.
There were those who still held resentment, those who showed doubt, and even those who now felt fear. Naruto couldn’t help but mock some of those people internally when he recognized them, especially adults who, when he was a child, had taken every opportunity to treat him badly and now seemed afraid to even remain near him after discovering that he had control over the Nine-Tailed Fox and was possibly the most powerful ninja in the entire Hidden Leaf Village. In truth, Naruto knew that he was, although not everyone believed it yet.
But there was another group that Naruto found even more difficult to deal with: the people who simply watched him with admiration, as though he had become someone they could look up to.
It was a change that had happened overnight, one day, he was somewhat famous and viewed favorably by some, the next, a large group of people admired him as if he were the Hokage himself!
Naruto knew that kind of look very well because he had seen it directed at Jiraiya many times and even at his parents in the other world. As for Minato, his accomplishments spoke for themselves, while his master, whom he had spent more time with than either of them, had always been famous as one of the Legendary Sannin, and because of that he naturally received the admiration of many wherever he went, but now that same kind of attention was beginning to be directed toward Naruto.
Naruto merely sighed as he got out of bed after sleeping in later than usual. He had spent much of the early morning training and meditating in his inner world, while having a long conversation with Kurama throughout practically the entire night. The previous day, he had spent quite a bit of time with Kakashi, Yamato, and Tsunade, so he hadn’t had much contact with other people after realizing how the Village was beginning to treat him.
Now he needed to see some familiar faces again, and the first of them would be Konohamaru.
Naruto already had some plans to pass a few techniques on to the boy and, now that he had far greater mastery over his own chakra and even a better mindset for teaching, being able to organize his knowledge and explain things in ways he never could before, he believed he was ready to start passing some of his jutsu on to the next generation.

You know, I was thinking about making another new Naruto fanfic after this one. I have a few ideas, what do you guys think?
An Uzumaki boy with a special ability involving his own chakra lives in Uzushiogakure until the attack happens, and his parents, in desperation, use a set of forbidden sealing techniques to send him 40 years into the future. (I’m assuming that Uzushiogakure was destroyed around 20 years after the creation of the villages and that Naruto’s era takes place around the 60-year mark.) [I could also say that this OC is Ashura’s reincarnation after the First Hokage and before Naruto...] It would be a fanfic focused on revenge for the attack by the 4 nations and Konoha’s negligence toward Uzushiogakure, since the boy watched his parents and everyone he knew being killed...
The second option is another revenge story, an Uchiha boy gets a chance to escape during the destruction of the Uchiha clan, he goes to Kiri with a Madara Uchiha power system, gaining Madara’s power over the years and returns for the Chunin Exams to get his revenge.
